No doubt about that. We should fix that - and the state of dpkg.c in
britney also doesn't help new patches to emerge faster.

We certainly did. It's not a new idea, and I certainly don't suggest that
switching to b2 will suddenly cause patches to appear. But OTOH, the
current muddled state of britney maintenance does make it harder for anyone
to submit patches should they wish to do so.

britney doesn't care about build-deps, though, so removing getfem++
temporarily would work, I think?

Sure. I was just hoping/waiting for a comment from Scott.

Yes, that would work - it looks like the transition went as expected.
Everything is now build and the only failures were existing/unrelated
failures or missing build-deps

(I also fixed the FTBFSes in qtiplot and uploaded it, it now is linked
against the new muparser as well)

muparser migrated now. Closing.

Thanks for your work!

Yes, it should. I've been trying to make sure that the bugs we know
about in b2 are documented in the BTS and fix them; the first part
should at least be done now. I should also dig out my RFC mail on the
switch which I think is sitting in my drafts somewhere.

currently enabled as doing so would cause potentially significant
differences in the output between b1 and b2.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention: collectd only recommends perlapi-5.10,
presumably because the perl bindings are an optional plugin, but it
will need rebuilding.

Last I remember was "after the large transitions are done", which
would be ... now. And yes, that should happen.

But re the "keeping old libs", that was already an issue before b2
existed. Also, I seem to remember we discussed that already in

Sorry for the to-ing and fro-ing, I'll actually be uploading a new
binutils-mingw-w64 package shortly to fix #624545 and help fix #624591
(because of gcc-mingw32). So the binNMU would just be a waste...

Are there any other outstanding fixes or other blockers for a 2.6.32-34
upload? The approximate two-monthly schedule for stable point releases
means that we should be aiming for 6.0.2 to be around the end of May, so
it would be good to try and get a finalised kernel for that in the
not-too-distant future.

(fwiw, the next lenny point release - 5.0.9 - shouldn't be too far
behind; we need to poke relevant people but I'm working on an estimated
schedule of around mid-June).

(and the docvert-openoffice.org and openoffice.org-dmaths crashes from
mid-March, which I suspect are other occurrences of the same issue;
possibly also related to #618805)

>From a bit of debugging, this appears to be an issue with cases where a
particular binary package has either moved source packages (as in the
"fixincludes" case, from gcc-4.5 to gcc-4.6) or moved from being
arch-dependent to arch:all, and the package is considered during
multiple phases of the b2 run (either as part of an "easy" and then
during the main run, or in the main run and then in a "hint").

When deciding whether to migrate a package, britney removes all of the
current binary packages - making an "undo" list - and then adds the
binary packages from the new version. If the new version is not
accepted then the "undo" list is used to revert things to the previous
state. However, in the "fixincludes" case at least, that reversion
seems not to be applied correctly. The run in which the above error
occurred included an "easy" for gcc-4.5, gcc-4.6 and a few other
packages, which failed; when the main run came to consider gcc-4.5 again
the sources dict still listed "fixincludes" as being built from gcc-4.5
but the binaries dict included the information for gcc-4.5/unstable,
meaning that it was missing the "fixincludes" package.

This appears to be "fixable" by disabling the use of the pre_process
dict, but at the expense of making the run slower.

Regards,

Adam

I don't think we have any reports of breakage -- I'm not sure how we'd
undertake a comprehensive analysis.

I'd be happy with that. The fix has been in unstable since 2011-04-22
(and now in testing). Bear in mind that once perl 5.12 has been
uploaded to unstable, it's quite likely that any breakage caused by this
bug will be more difficult to detect in isolation.

Fine. How should I proceed ? Should I upload both libjpeg6b and libjpeg8 with
libjpeg-dev pointing to libjpeg8-dev ?

Okay, then we should release a DSA for it, so that the breakage is
more easily blamed on this particular change, and that it's less
confusing if we have to issue follow-up DSAs. Perhaps late May or
early June would be a convenient release date?

Bug#619850: pu: package iceowl/1.0~b1+dfsg2-2.squeeze1.diff

Presumably this now requires a further update, in light of at least
MFSA2011-12?

Given the lack of support from upstream for iceowl beta releases, do
they actually provide details of which portions of updates might be
iceowl-specific?

I do note that the discussion before the release about updating iceowl
in stable very much implied that security updates would be pushed via
the security archive, albeit not as the security team's top priority.

Adam

One issue with this transition is that a number of packages still depends on
libjpeg62-dev instead of libjpeg-dev. This might cause packages to have
uninstallable
build-dependency until they are fixed.

OK, and sorry to have been rude.

Keep up the good work!

OK I see.

For me ? You always forget that I'm a Debian developper and here my
main concern is to have Debian binaries installable in other distro and
vice versa.

For now only Debian use a soname of 1 and 2 now.

lqt_start_audio_vbr_chunk is no longer provided [1] by the shlib.
Other changes have been made to exported symbols (like
quicktime_write_chunk_footer, quicktime_write_chunk_header) [2].

Bug#624647: pu: package akonadi/1.3.1-3+squeeze1

2011-04-30 Thread Modestas Vainius
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pu

Hello,

Please consider accepting the patch fixing #545139 [1] to squeeze (full debdiff
is below). It can be considered as regression from lenny (KDE 3) since kmail
used to work fine when HOME was mounted to the network filesystem. Since KDE SC
4.4, akonadi-server is essential daemon for kmail (and other KDE Personal
Information Management applications) to work.

The patch addresses the issue that sockets cannot be created on the network
filesystems. akonadi before this patch is only capable of creating a socket in
the subdirectory of HOME. With this patch applied, it will safely create the
socket in /tmp if it can't do this directly in HOME.

1.3.1-4 with this sole change has just been uploaded to unstable to get wider
testing. Consider waiting a bit to see how it bares there.

Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

Hi!

I've uploaded the new release of libquicktime to experimental and I'd like to
upload it to unstable too.
Although the SONAME has been bumped I think no porting is needed, so a rebuild
might be the solution for most packages affected by this:

dvgrab
gem
gmerlin
kino
mlt
pdp
smilutils
xawtv

Please let me know when I can start the transition.
Thanks in advance.
