Re: Building kernel udebs from kfreebsd-*
Hi Philipp, 2011/11/5 Philipp Kern : > Would there be a volunteer to implement that for kFreeBSD too? It could be as > easy as calling kernel-wedge post-build, but at least for linux-2.6 changes > to kernel-wedge were necessary[1]. Nice idea and thanks for the tip. I implemented this for kfreebsd-10 (being uploaded as I write). For kfreebsd-9 maybe it's better to wait a few days since it'll have to go through NEW soon (upstream 9.0 release). And for kfreebsd-8 it would interfere with TERM=xterm transition (see #647672), I'd rather not touch it for now. -- Robert Millan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-release-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Release goal proposal: Archive-wide build-arch and build-indep support
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi, I would like to propose the goal of getting archive-wide support for the optional debian/rules targets "build-arch" and "build-indep". The intention is to finally solve issues like #619284 and the goal is related to #629385. According to Lintian, currently 5542 packages are missing at least one of these optional targets. At the current rate these are fixed it will take over 2 years to get them all done and unfortunately the rate appears to be slowing dropping[1]. Jakub Wilk did an analysis earlier this year, which suggests we can reduce the problem size considerably by looking only at source packages that builds both "arch:all" and "non arch:all" binaries[2]. I have filed #647227 against Lintian asking for a separate tag to identify these packages. To keep it attainable, the goal for Wheezy is to fix the subset of packages that would need to differentiate "build" and "build-arch"/"build-indep". Once we have the data available, we will put up a dd-list for the reduced set. If you would like to help: * Fix you(r team)'s packages (see [3]) * Sign up as an volunteer. - There are up 126 QA uploads waiting to be done. :) - There will probably also be some NMUs. * If filing bugs for this, please use: * User: debian...@lists.debian.org * Usertags: build-arch-target The release goal wiki page is at [4] and the current advocates are Jakub Wilk, Bernhard R. Link and myself. Bug#647248: pu: package rng-tools/2-unofficial-mt.14-1~60squeeze1

Ok. The diff previously attached is the result of: debdiff rng-tools_2-unofficial-mt.13-3.dsc \ rng-tools_2-unofficial-mt.14-1~60squeeze1.dsc Therefore, it is the full diff of the proposed upload (built on stable) against the current stable package. The noise is there because I screwed up in the 2-unofficial-mt.14 *upstream* tarball, and somehow shipped it without the autoconf output. The large diff is recording the fact that config.sub/config.guess/ aclocal.m4/configure are missing in the upstream tarball. That stuff is regenerated in the Debian build anyway, so it doesn't matter at all for the Debian packages. I don't think anyone but Debian and Ubuntu uses this fork of rng-tools, so nobody complained and I did not notice the problem until very recently. Confirming what the diff will look like when rebuilt on stable (as the package for upload should be) would be good so, yes, please. Building kernel udebs from kfreebsd-*
Hi, linux-2.6 did the lead with building the kernel udebs straight from the kernel package. With that change we always get current udebs for use in the installer. Also it's much easier from a release management point of view if you do not need to get all the udeb source packages rebuilt for the latest kernel update. Would there be a volunteer to implement that for kFreeBSD too? It could be as easy as calling kernel-wedge post-build, but at least for linux-2.6 changes to kernel-wedge were necessary[1]. I guess the best starting points would be the existing kernel udeb source packages and bwh's changes to linux-2.6[2]. Well, actually I want to upload the latest version of gpsd to unstable which doesn't even contain that part of the code anymore. So there is nothing to apply there anymore. But if it makes you happier, I could upload yet another 2.95 revision including that fix. -- Bernd ZeimetzDebian GNU/Linux Developer http://bzed.dehttp://www.debian.org GPG Fingerprint: ECA1 E3F2 8E11 2432 D485 DD95 EB36 171A 6FF9 435F -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-release-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
