Bug#796323: stretch-pu: package icedove/38.2.0-1~stretch
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal Tags: strech User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: pu Hello there, due the GCC-5 transition we would like to upload the current Icedove ESR version (aka Thunderbird 38.2.0) to proposed updates for jessie. The latest beta version 40.0~b1 is uploaded several days ago to experimental and the previous version 38.1.0-1 is currently in unstable. Due not go out of sync to current upstream versions we would like to place a recent version into stretch via proposed updated. We are working also on providing versions for stable-security and oldstable-security, but that's not the focus here. -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: armhf Kernel: Linux 4.1.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.utf8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system)

For the items that are still to-do or undecided, I've been adding reverse dependency counts to that list, using max(broken build-depends, source packages with broken depends) from a dak command like dak rm -R -n adplug, so that people can see whether they are almost leaf packages or not. In most cases the answer is that they have 10 direct rdeps, which strikes me as getting into fix it later territory. hunspell is one notable exception, if it does indeed need renaming (I haven't verified) I think we might be at or approaching a point where it is worthwhile to schedule a significant number of binNMUs and make more of unstable installable again, without needing to re-binNMU too many of the same packages later? For instance, the ilmbase - openexr - opencv stack are all fixed in unstable, and so are most of the glibmm stack (e.g. gtkmm). S
Bug#796345: transition: perl 5.22
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: transition X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-p...@lists.debian.org Hello, This is a tracking bug for the planned transition to perl 5.22. We would like this to be considered for sometime after the gcc-5 transition, and expect to be mostly ready to go within the next few weeks. The current stats for this transition are as follows: * Number of binNMUs needed: 571[1] * Number of arch:any packages which FTBFS with perl 5.22: 9 * 1 fix in DELAYED; 2 mostly fixed but awaiting upload; 6 needing more work or removal. * The most significant problem at the moment is libapache2-mod-perl2, where upstream have not yet provided support for perl 5.22 (help welcome: #787493). For most of the others[2] removal is a plausible option. * Number of arch:all packages which FTBFS with perl 5.22: approx 60[3] * We obviously need to get this number down; most of them are fairly straightforward changes that the pkg-perl will hopefully be able to help with (either because they are team maintained, or via NMUs) * I am still waiting for the results of another mass-rebuild, and to retest some corner cases, so a few new bugs may still be reported, but we now have the vast majority of them The version of perl we expect to upload to unstable will differ from that currently in experimental (5.22.0-2) in including (hopefully) changes which will make the package fully reproducible, as well as a few other minor fixes. We don't expect these changes to reveal any further compatibility issues. It's also just possible that perl 5.22.1 will be released before we go ahead with the transition (it's currently scheduled for some time in September) in which case it would be better to use that for the transition. The other change worth mentioning is the introduction of a revised package layout (option 'S' in [4]). We will send a mail out to debian-devel prior to the transition starting, explaining this and other general information. Hopefully I've covered everything I need to at this point, but just let me now if anything needs clarifying. Bug#789214: jessie-pu: package cloud-init/0.7.6~bzr976-2 - -3
On 08/19/2015 04:01 AM, Charles Plessy wrote: Hi Julien and Thomas, in May, Mehdi Abaakouk wrote in #784083: After further investigation, the whole cloud-init dependencies chains is completely broken with systemd. [...] This issue is more critical, that I have thought initially, because with systemd, the cloud-init behavior is completely unpredictable... Also, the current packaged debian version source contains the systemd unit files, but the binary package doesn't install them. Then Thomas added the unit files, which fixed the problem. Then in July, Mehdi Abaakouk confirmed this #784083: Note, that I have tested on jessie, the packages that zigo have uploaded in sid (0.7.6~bzr976-4) and it works as expected. Can we go ahead with the proposed stable update ? Have a nice day, Charles Charles, Julien, Julien told me he will review this issue again next week, so let's wait that. After it's done, the team behind Azure images urgently needs an update to the latest version of cloud-init in Sid. Julien, is it ok if we upgrade Sid to the latest upstream, or will it affect the upload to Stable? Cheers, Thomas Goirand (zigo)

Bug#784915: jessie-pu: package rsnapshot/1.3.1-4

Barratt wrote: Control: tags -1 + moreinfo On Sun, 2015-05-10 at 17:52 +0200, Guillaume Delacour wrote: I've introduced [1] in rsnapshot version 1.3.1-4 a problem which affects multiple user: when defining custom ssh_args they're not properly interpreted (erroneously quoted). [...] [1]: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=717451 The metadata for that bug indicates that it also affects the version of rsnapshot in unstable. If that's correct, please fix the bug in unstable; if not, please fix the metadata. The package in unstable and testing appears to have been fixed now. In either case, when it comes to an update in stable we'll need a source debdiff of the proposed updated package, built and tested in a Jessie environment, rather than pointers to online patches. This is still true, however. Regards, Adam

Package: developers-reference Version: 3.4.15 Severity: important Tags: patch As I understand the current Release Team practices (in X-Debbugs-CC), uploads to non-unstable/experimental suites should nowadays rather use the codenames (wheezy, wheezy-proposed-updates, wheezy-security or wheezy-lts) instead of suites (oldstable, oldstable-proposed-updates, oldstable-security or oldstable-lts). Bug#796476: ftp.debian.org: valid-until for stable
Package: ftp.debian.org Tags: security X-Debbugs-CC: debian-release@lists.debian.org Hi, Nowadays the Release files for the *stable releases do not have a Valid-Until field. From a security POV, this could allow a replay attack to be performed on the main stable repositories, which could prevent a user from getting some security updates. Would it be possible to have such a valid-until field with a duration of, say, four months? Given the trend of doing point updates every few months, the date could be renewed only at point release time. Release team: would that be ok for you? Re: 8.2 and 7.9 planning

Some potential September dates: 5/6th - okay for me Works for me. 12/13th - the 12th doesn't work for me until at least mid-afternoon Slightly awkward for me on the 12th, but 13th looks fine. 19th/20th - looks okay Bad for me - I'm flying to the US for a work trip on the 20th. 26th/27th - looks okay I'll be back on the 26th, but in a zombie state. Can work, but images will be a little more delayed than normal maybe. -- Steve McIntyre, Cambridge, UK.st...@einval.com “Yes, of course duct tape works in a near-vacuum. Duct tape works anywhere. Bug#791031: fbreader: library transition may be needed when GCC 5 is the default

For historical reasons these package name parts were + actually a bit off the SONAMEs, and now it's a good time to fix it. + (Closes: #763468) I believe this is ready for upload to unstable. As clarified in https://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2015/08/msg00426.html the test is whether each of your library dependencies either do not need a transition, or have already started their transitions. fbreader does not appear to have any build-dependencies that needed a transition. Re: kdecoration2 mess - std::function makes the world fun
On 08/20/2015 04:08 PM, Sune Vuorela wrote: Hi Release Team, hi pkg-kde (and a couple of BCC's just as a FYI) (not subscribed to -release, please CC me) After having spent quite some time today looking at the current kdecoration2 mess (tracked at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350964 , at debian:796194, debian:796184 and probably many more) The crash happens around when a std::function (a c++11 feature) is passed across a library boundary and some parts of it is built with gcc5 and others with 4.9. According to Matthias Klose, upstream actually gives no guarantees for for their abi for c++11, so I guess the steps forward should be: just to clarify. The c++11 support in GCC versions up to 4.9.x was declared as experimental. Upstream didn't make any guarantees for it's compatibility across major GCC versions, including the changes to GCC 5. In GCC 5 the c++11 support is now called stable, and the upstream promise is that future libstdc++ releases should be compatible. 1) Immediately binNMU src:kdecoration2 in testing, then when that is done, binNMU src:kwin, src:oxygen and src:breeze all in testing. (that's for release team) this won't work, the GCC 5 in testing is not built using the dual libstdc++ ABI. GCC 5.2 is not yet in testing. 2) At the same time, do a library transition for libkdecoration2-5 and rename it to libkdecoration2-5v5 and binNMU the rdeps (the same as mentioned above) either this, or add breaks to the reverse dependencies, as done with the PR66145 issues (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=gcc-pr66145;users=debian-...@lists.debian.org) Matthias
