Debian 8.4 w/Cinnamon == A BIG BUST!!
On two different computers, both running AMD processors (8350 and 9370), you new release bombed rather badly. While I liked Cinnamon mostly, over performance on both machines DROPPED by 30-50%! Yeah, with htop showing very little processor time being used (except, curiously, sometimes Cinnamon would spike to over 40%), CPU benchmarks inside BOINC showed the drops in performance. With BOINC shutdown, graphics intensive tasks showed very noticeable and irritating videos (see Unigine demos, 'heaven' and 'valley.') I wasted almost two days running tests to find out where the performance drop was until finally determining that it was solely the new version 8.4 I had to revert back to the standard Jessie (8.3?) to get my computers back. Fortunately, on the second machine, I ONLY tried it in live mode so only wasted a couple hours as my backup test. This won't do, guys. Thanks for all your work, David Merchant the fx9370 computer has an AMD video card, R9 280Xand the 8370 computer has a GTX 960, if that helps. Still waiting on CUDA support in Debian.

We don't. I guess it was 'renamed' because it's a rewrite and the new maintainer chose to upload it with the upstream name. The current version is 20160613-1, the new version in experimental is 20160613-2. The update will install the header files into /usr/include/libdwarf/ (instead of directly into /usr/include/). This will make the libdwarf-dev package coinstallable with libdw-dev. Since both libraries provide similar functionality, it can be expected that some users might want to install both of them, which is not possible right now. hhvm, the only reverse build dependency of libdwarf-dev, builds fine with the new version in experimental. Sure, go ahead. Not really a transition per se as the SONAME didn't change. I'm closing this as there won't be any binNMUs needed and the package should migrate without issues. Please let us know if that's wrong and you expect any further action from us. Cheers, Emilio--- End Message ---
Bug#828177: jessie-pu: package unbound/1.4.22-3+deb8u2
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal Tags: jessie User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: pu Hi, The unbound package in jessie is affected by #807132 ("unbound-control breaks systemctl stop/start"). The bug report is long, but briefly, the unbound daemon can fail to start in several common scenarios, such as when the "unbound-control" utility is used to stop the daemon. One user reports that the unbound daemon is stopped but not subsequently started every time the unbound package is upgraded. This bug has been fixed in unstable by 1.5.9-1 and is currently marked severity important, though in my opinion this bug is severe enough to make it unsuitable for a release. The fix for this is shown below and is relatively simple, and was suggested by a member of the pkg-systemd team (Michael Biebl). I'd like to upload this to jessie.
