Source: mutter
Version: 45~beta.1-1
Severity: wishlist
Control: affects -1 src:gnome-shell
Control: block -1 by 1040005

This is a tracking and discussion bug for uploading Mutter & GNOME
Shell 45 to Unstable.

After a painful experience with Mutter 44, budgie-desktop is switching
to magpie, a fork of Mutter, instead of using Mutter directly. That
switch is a prerequisite for the Mutter 45 transition.

That means that the Debian GNOME generally owns the packages involved
in future Mutter transitions, but some coordination with the Release
Team is still necessary when we have lists of GNOME Shell extensions
to be removed. And it will be a long list for GNOME Shell 45.

Thank you,

Control: affects -1 + src:glibc

Dear release team,

I would like to get a transition slot for glibc 2.39. It has been
available in experimental for two months already. It has been built
successfully on all release architectures and most ports architectures.
The experimental pseudo-excuses look good overall.

The current known issues are available in the BTS using the glibc2.39
usertag:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?tag=glibc2.39;users=debian-gl...@lists.debian.org

gopacket has a patch available and I can take care of NMUing if it is
not fixed before the transition starts.

For aspectc++, cbmc and rocm-hipamd, the situation is a bit more
complex. Those packages have issues with the types introduced on the
arm64 version of bits/math-vector.h. Those are guarded by clang or gcc
version checks, but the guards are ignored by the packages for various
reasons. A workaround is present in glibc 2.38, but it can't be ported
easily in glibc 2.39. I therefore propose to remove the corresponding
arm64 packages from the archive. aspectc++ and cbmc are leaf packages.
For rocm-hipamd, this also means removing 15 reverse dependencies.

As glibc is using symbol versioning, there is no soname change. That
said a few packages are using libc internal symbols and have to be
rebuilt for this transition. Here is the corresponding ben file:

  title = "glibc";
  is_affected = .depends ~ /libc[0-9.]* \(< from ISO C2X

They are unlikely to be widely used at this point, but at least systemd
uses some of them. This might block their migration to testing during
the transition.

Thanks for considering.

Regards,
Aurelien

Chromium has been blocked from migrating to testing by libxml2 for
roughly two months now. There are 38 CVEs that have been fixed between
the version currently in trixie (125.0.6422.60-1) and the version in sid
(126.0.6478.126-1). Several folks have asked for an updated version via
tpu, so here we go again.

The packaging changes between 126.0.6478.126-1 in sid and
126.0.6478.126-1~deb13u1 are attached.

Thanks,
Andres

Dear Release team,

I would like to move Qt WebEngine 5.15.17 from experimental to unstable.

It is a patch release in 5.15 LTS branch that backports multiple CVE fixes
from upstream Chromium, adds native Python 3 support (so we can drop our
large patch), and additionally it includes a fix for building with libxml2
2.12 (so it fixes #1074671).

Only two reverse dependencies will need to be binNMUed: angelfish and
qtwebview-opensource-src.

Ben file:

title = "qtwebengine-abi-5-15-17";
is_affected = .depends ~ "qtwebengine-abi-5-15-16" | .depends ~
"qtwebengine-abi-5-15-17";
is_good = .depends ~ "qtwebengine-abi-5-15-17";
is_bad = .depends ~ "qtwebengine-abi-5-15-16";

Dear Release Team,

Please schedule a transition slot for roc-toolkit 0.4.0.

The auto-generated ben tracker looks good:
https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-roc-toolkit.html

The unique reverse dep (pipewire 1.0.7-1) builds fine with
roc-toolkit 0.4.0 in experimental.

Thanks.

Best regards,
Dylan

Hi dear release team,

the upgrade from nghttp3 version 0.8.0 to 1.3.0 requires a change in the
SONAME and hence a transition. The new version is already in
experimental. The following source packages need to be rebuilt:

wireshark

Please schedule binNMUs for the above mentioned packages on all
architectures.

Kind regards

The latest upstream of RtAudio includes a soname bump of libRtAudio.
The Debian packages have updated their names accordingly.

The new RtAudio has been uploaded to experimental a while ago (last year).

A couple of reverse dependencies FTBFS because of some API changes.
Bugs have been filed for these packages, along with patches.
Some maintainers have already applied these patches, but some are still
missing:
- #1051567 cubicsdr
- #1051556 soapyaudio
- #1051564 stk

thanks in advance for a transition slot.

For whatever reasons, vamp-plugin-sdk missed the time64 mass transition (as it
was wrongly thought to be not affected). Of course this now breaks reverse
recompiled dependencies. So here we go :-)

Since there is no API change (only the ABI is broken), i do not expect any
problems with the depending packages. Nevertheless I used 'ratt' to rebuild the
reverse dependencies (rubberband, audacity, qm-dsp, sonic-visualiser & ardour),
and unsurprisingly all went well.

Please schedule a slot for this transition.

Hi release managers,

On behalf of the GNUstep team I'd like to request a transition slot
for a combined gnustep-base/gnustep-gui transition (one-round binNMUs):

libgnustep-base1.29 -> 1.30
libgnustep-gui0.30 -> 0.31

The new libraries are available in experimental, built on all release
architectures. Build-testing the rdeps revealed only one issue
(lynkeos.app, #1072736) which has been fixed in unstable so no
sourceful uploads (except gnustep-back) will be required.

FYI, the new gnustep-gui version adds support for ImageMagick 7
(release.d.o #1060103).

The automatically generated trackers look fine.

The latest upstream of RtMidi includes a soname bump of libRtMidi.
The Debian packages have updated their names accordingly.

The new RtMidi has been uploaded to experimental a while ago (last year).

I've checked reverse dependencies with 'ratt', and so far only found
problems in the following packages:
- polyphone
- octave-audio
- ft2-clone
all three fail during the dependency resolution, so we do not know whether
RtMidi causes any problems.

however, checking the RtMidi API does not show any backwards-incompatible
changes, so I do not expect any problems.
(the soname bump was obviously triggered by a class-method becoming virtual,
so the ABI changed, but not the API)

thanks in advance for a transition slot.
