VFS: Unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy. the portmap is running: program vers proto port 102 tcp111 portmapper 102 udp111 portmapper 132 udp 2049 nfs 151 udp 1039 mountd 151 tcp 1066 mountd 152 udp 1039 mountd 152 tcp 1066 mountd 153 udp 1039 mountd 153 tcp 1066 mountd as it should till the mountd. shouldn't it run below the port 1024? if so how can i put it back to the right port? but on the other side i can mount this nfs part. from a 3th box. that means nfs works correct. or not? to install a sun box is much more complicated then i ever imagined it. and i always drive to a dead end... ps: i still tried to link to silo and it doesn't worked as expected. silo starts but is not able to start any kernel images. thanks a lot for your help, regards, alias m.nine.six.

Yah. Say, I'm working on a little HOWTO and hopefully an automated build script for cross-compiling kernels. I go Intel->Sparc. I'll make another post when I get the basic instructions complete. Thanks for your answer but where can I find the package xserver-xsun ? I had a look in the debian ftp site and I can't find it... Is there a special URL or ftp site ? Hello, > and an other faq tells that i have to convert an elf kernel to aout with > the elf2aout tool. but the tool tells me that it is not an elf file. Yes, I had this toodo this: mv vmlinuz vmlinux-elf.gz gzip -d vmlinux-elf.gz elf2out -o vmlinux vmlinux-elf Then use vmlinux to boot from.. Hmm, Sounds like your from intel land, sun computers can net boot from their boot prom, you don't need to compile the sunlance driver seperately it should be in the standard kernel once you boot it. Also you won't be able to run intel compiled binaries unless you use a cross compiler. Get onto the www.ultralinux.org web site and look at the frequently ask questions. Regards, Peter Firmstone.
accessing consoles
on my ultra1 i cant access my consoles, i think they are running because when i do 'ps aux |grep tty' root 223 0.0 0.0 1216 0 tty1 SW Sep15 0:00 [getty]root 224 0.0 0.0 1216 0 tty2 SW Sep15 0:00 [getty]root 225 0.0 0.0 1216 0 tty3 SW Sep15 0:00 [getty]root 226 0.0 0.0 1216 0 tty4 SW Sep15 0:00 [getty]root 227 0.0 0.0 1216 0 tty5 SW Sep15 0:00 [getty]root 228 0.0 0.0 1216 0 tty6 SW Sep15 0:00 [getty] but when i try to change into a console with for example than it just doesnt work ? any ideas ? thanks in advance bruno
apt-get upgrade / esound problem (bug?)
on my ultra1 i just did a apt-get upgrade it was a huge upgrade because i hadnt run it in some weeks, also packages 'esound' and 'ssh' got upgraded but esound has put a line into /etc/hosts.allow with 'esound: 127.0.0.1' but it didnt put it on a new line but right after the line that was already there 'ALL:192.168.0.' and when i wanted to ssh to my box i didnt got in, until i put that 'esound: 127.0.0.1' on a new line, ... i dont know if this is worth filing a bug, but it sure kept me looking for what was wrong with ssh. bruno

What? Hey, it's a Sun, you don't need no steenkin' network rom to burn ;-] Just type boot net at the OK prompt and it should work. And read the installation manual, that's what it is there for.
