bind 8.4.7 and notifys

While migrating a nameserver, I noticed a difference between BIND 8.4.6
(Debian -1) and 8.4.7 (also Debian -1) - the latter one doesn't send
NOTIFYs when a zone is changedreloaded.
I tried explicitly setting notify yes;, both globally and in the zone
definition, but still no luck:

Any hints? I can find no mention of this behaviour in the docs, nor on
bugs.d.o either. Both machines are sun4u, Sarge vs. Etch.

sunlance broken in current sparc32 installer
Hi! Yesterday I needed to netboot one of my SS10s, so I grabbed the current boot.img[0]. Unfortunately, the kernel's broken somewhat, as there are unresolved symbols in (at least) sunlance. Which therefore doesn't load and makes netbooting Sarge de facto impossible on machines with LANCE ethernet. Kernel oops when rebooting U2

I just upgraded one of my boxen from an U1 to an U2 (swapped the disk,
to be frank), and it appeared to work fine for a couple hours. The U2
has worked fine whilst I had it on my desk for testing, with both
normal and SMP kernels.

AFAICT there's not a single kernel-image-2.4 for sun4m, so I'll have to roll my own. Usually I install a kernel-image-2.4 before to satisfy possible dependencies. Ultra 1 - second ethernet not recognized
Hi! I have a Sun Ultra1[0] here, and want to make a firewall out of it. So I put in a second ethernet, SBus, 270-1881-02 rev 1 (AUI/BNC), but the kernel doesn't seem to recognize it (eg only eth0 shows up in dmesg[1]). A test net via OpenBoot shows .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. Using AUI Ethernet Interface Internal loopback test -- succeeded. External loopback test -- Lost Carrier (transceiver cable problem?) send failed. Using TP Ethernet Interface Internal loopback test -- succeeded. External loopback test -- succeeded. .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. which looks suspiciously like it's only the on-board interface (one ethernet, AUI/TP, is built in). Is there a magic incantation I have to make (some module to load), or does that smell like the magic smoke has escaped this card? You mentioned you could get another OS installed, so maybe it's possible verifying the md5sum on the target hardware? Otherwise, I remember something about old sparc-CDROM-drives needing a sector size of 512 bytes. I don't have any working drive which can do that, so it's only a _very_ wild guess. BTW, if you have another computer on the LAN, you could give net-installing a try. woody on SS1 hangs
Hi! As you might remember, I managed to upgrade to Woody on my SS1 last week. Still using the 2.2.19 kernel-image which worked quite fine until now. Now the box always hangs after ~ 30 hours. No console output, no console access, most of the time not even a break works (although when it works it doesn't help either except for issuing a reset). There are no log entries, no console output, nothing. SS1(sun4c) upgrade to Woody trouble..
Hi! For the last few days I've been trying to upgrade my veteran SS1 to Woody, now that that's stable. But: as soon as it's done fetching packages and starts to configure them, load goes tits-up until it completely stops responding. Well, it continues to answer ICMP and TCP, but no service behind responds, until the TCP-session finally timeouts. I can get to PROM via the console, but nothing else responds there also. Running `while true; do sleep 60; uptime; free; done` in another shell, I can watch it grind to a halt: 2:38pm up 21:18, 2 users, load average: 6.15, 6.67, 5.71 total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 13980 13372608 4508 1064 5320 -/+ buffers/cache: 6988 6992 Swap: 179252 22144 157108 ... 3:52pm up 22:33, 2 users, load average: 26.43, 25.91, 22.91 total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 13980 13704276 4364 1064 4600 -/+ buffers/cache: 8040 5940 Swap: 179252 39828 139424 (Well, actually one iteration through the loop takes some 20 minutes now) I've let it run for over 2 days the last time until I finally gave in and rebooted. And just the benefit of being able to run headless with a real serial port console (i.e. including being able to get to the BIOS) is enough benefit over Intel stuff for me. (I keep hoping that someone will start shipping Intel boards with the Linux BIOS Project ROMs on them. 2 sec. POST time and true serial port console. Drool.) Have you had a look at the PC Weasel? I don´t have a spare SCSI-cdrom, so installing via CD isn´t an option for me. It seems that I´ll have to somehow copy with TFTP. Are there older, thus smaller, tftpboot-images available anywhere? I´d be happy just to get something to run on the box from where I could then upgrade..
