It really depends on the libraries being backward compatible though. Would not recommend doing the upgrade in stages: it only guarantees you have an untested combination until you've completed everything. -- Martin --- 30 years from now GNU/Linux will be as redundant a term as UNIX/MERT is today. - Martin Habets --- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". You might want to pay particular attention to the parts that say '...back up your system before upgrading' On questionable architectures, I created an NFS root first, then upgraded. If it went OK, I then copied that back to the disk. If it doesn't, no harm done. Takes a little longer, but takes some of the nail biting out of it, too. I did that on both my SS20 and my dual PPC 604 machine. If something goes wrong you can just start over. > Will a Woody package run in Sarge? You would be better off upgrading to sarge and then downgrading those packages to the woody version. > Are Apache and Postfix working OK in Sparc Sarge? upgrading woody -> sarge on Sparc 2.
There is an old Sparc 2 here, happily running Woody with Apache and Postfix. Seems that a simple technique for upgrading to Sarge is to replace every occurance of "woody" with "sarge" in /etc/apt/sources.list and then update and install in dselect. Is this likely to be successful? Will a Woody package run in Sarge? If so I can work in stages. Upgrade the US main first, then the US non-free, then US contribs and etc. Are Apache and Postfix working OK in Sparc Sarge?
