fichero:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php4 .php3 .phtml

OT- Mozilla y contrasennas

2001-05-24 Thread first last
   Holas.

hace),

#!/bin/sh

usuario.

Re: man, whatis, apropos...(listado de entradas disponibles)

2001-05-24 Thread Enrique Marcote Peña
Hola Antonio:

 del man.

 una página man tendrás que procesar la sección SEE ALSO buscando

Oi,

backups
das estações clientes simplesmente o cdrecord fica congelado e ocorre
um
error flushing the cache.

potencial
do barramento no pinguin :-)

Re: Kernel 2.4.4 doesn't boot

2001-05-24 Thread Benjamin Black
 I've installed the new kernel-image-2.4.4-686 package on my sid system,
 with this lilo entry:

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.4-686
label=2.4.4
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.4-686
read-only

 Trying to boot this kernel hangs hard right after it prints `starting kswapd'
 (so hard that my system's `semi-soft' power switch fails to work, and I
 have to unplug it to reboot).

 When I installed the kernel (using apt-get), the following error message
 was printed:

Setting up kernel-image-2.4.4-686 (2.4.4-1) ...
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in
 /lib/modules/2.4.4-686/kernel/drivers/scsi/pci2220i.o
/boot/initrd does not exist. Installing from scratch, eh?
Or maybe you don't want a symbolic link here. Hmm? Lets See.
...etc...

 My system doesn't use any scsi disks, so I'm not sure if this is the
 actual problem or not.

 Does anyone have any idea as to what could be going wrong, and how I
 could try to fix it?

the pci2220i module is a known issue (i think), in any case it's not
your problem. you could try to fix it first by disabling kswapd (man
update-rc.d), since you say it freezes at that point.

if the problem persists, you should probably file a bug report against
the package with a high severity. i would make sure it's not just
something simple first though.

 JA Hi everybody!
 JA
 JA I just install Debian on my computer and as soon as it reboot it display
 me this:
 JA FA1:

 This happened to me when i upgraded the cpu in my box and accidentaly
 overclocked it, if you machine is overclocked, you need to set it back to its
 recommended settings, this also includes overclocking memory with bios
 settings
  etc. Linux uses all hardware more effectively and aggresively than
 bloatsoft,
 so overclocking is more likely to cause trouble.

I too saw the mysterious FA1 message one time long ago, and only after
much contemplation and endless searching did I find the following:

The boot prompt looks something like this:

4.1 The boot prompt
~~~
14FA:
This is the list of valid keys which may be pressed.  This means that
partitions 1, and 4 can be booted, also the first floppy drive
(F).  The A means that 'advanced' mode may be entered, in which any
partition may be booted.  The prompt for this mode looks like this:
1234F:
The only other valid key which may be pressed is RETURN, which
continues booting with the default partition.
The above is from /usr/share/doc/mbr/README
My sugestion is to use a boot floppy (you did make a boot floppy, didn't
you?) and press F, then see man install-mbr and the above README. You
may have your master boot reccord manager pointing at the wrong partition
(should point to the partition with /boot on it), or the necessary info is
beyond reach.
An alternative suggestion, that was at one time guarenteed to start a flame
war for just bringing it up, is to install LILO on the mbr instead of the
mbr manager. See man lilo.real for more info about this.
Good luck and have fun.
You need root.bin, rescue.bin and 1 or more driver disks.  If the disks
aren't being read the most likely two problems are a bad or dirty floppy
drive and or bad floppy disks.  I assume your following the installation
instructions at the debian web-site.
You should take the time to read the installation instructions at -
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/#new-inst
Yes you can install debian on the disk in question without disturbing
Windows.  I'm assuming you are installing from a bootable cd disk.  Slap
the cd in and boot.  Make sure the bios is set to boot off the cdrom.
You will be asked to partion the disk.  At that point you should create
your debian partitions on what would be the D: partition looking from
your windows side.  After you have installed debian you can dual boot
with Lilo or Grub.  Keep in mind that if you make the wrong move during
the partitioning/creating filesytem stage you could hose your Windows
side -- so make a backup.
Quadrant CineMaster Video Encoder Card
Hello,
I've recently inherited a Quadrant CineMaster C 3.0 video encoder
I've spend a couple of hours searching the net for a linux driver
did see mention somewhere of a module called bt865.o which I have
not been able to locate.
Has anyone gotten this card to work on a debian system?
Check out mjpeg.sourceforge.net.
I've done this in the past using a IOmega BUZ card that I picked up on
Any way you cut it you are going to face some difficulty, especially
really becomes more than annoying.
In any event, the mjpeg people are wonderful.  I am constantly amazed
  Problem 1: the cursor won't respond
I installed the Potato release as the default OS in a dual-boot
setup on an Apple PowerBook Pismo (Firewire/2000/tc.).  X (v.3)
launches happily, but the cursor arrow won't respond to either the
trackpad or an externally connected USB mouse.  It won't budge from
the center of the display (which is some sort of Debian desktop
decoration with some icons on either side.  Don't know what they do
yet; I can't click'em.)
I've tried manually editing the XF86Config file, setting the pointer
to /dev/input/mice, as per a suggestion.  Still no joy.  In searching
the new system  documentation for an X configuration tool, I found
that none were installed (I chose the task-based, simple installation
method, selecting everything I *thought* would be useful).  This leads
to:
  Problem 2: dselect config file mulched
I've inadvertantly hoarked whatever shoot-myself-in-the-foot.config
file it is that controls what the dselect program can access.  I can't
seem to get a package list update from the CD's I installed from.
With this remedied, maybe I could install the man pages!  In any event,
this leads to the frustrating:
  Problem 3: dsl via dhcp internet connection does't work
Which means that I can't connect to the Debian ftp site to download the
XF86Setup package!
I posted a plea the other day and received very interesting information
in return.  (Thanks!)  My /etc/network/interfaces file, edited accordingly,
now reads:
# interfaces to launch at boot
auto lo eth0
# loopback interface
iface lo inet loopback
# fast ethernet
iface eht0 inet dhcp
Nontheless, I still get unresolved address errors from dselect's Access
methods.  Lynx complains as well.  From a cold boot and root login, invoking
ifconfig returns no output whatsoever.  If I then invoke
% ifconfig eth0 up
I get
eth0 PHY ID: ...
full_duplex:1, speed: 100
dselect  lynx remain unhappy though, even after that ifconfigery.  Note that
the computer is connected to a Linksys Cable/DSL Router, which serves IP numbers
via DHCP -- and the whole setup works flawlessly under MacOS ...
Two related questions:
- What does /sbin/pump do?  I'm told it plays/can play a role in dhcp
  configuration.  What would/should I do to implement it?
- What does /sbin/ifup do?  There's reference to it in the original
Maybe he has confused nis and nfs. Although I'm not sure why nfs should be a
range of things NFS must do calls for it.
Thanks for the links, I'll check them out. For starters I will work with the
You need to mount the floppy, this is easy to do.
1 Make sure you NOT in the /floppy directory
2) Put the disk in the drive.
3) type mount /floppy
Your floppy should now be mounted, cd to /floppy and it will now
show the contents of your disk, don't forget to unount the floppy
when your done, this is easy too.
1) Make sure your not in /floppy
2) type umount /floppy
Re: turning off exim on port 25
That pretty much turns off exim altogether.  While effective for disabling
the Port 25 listen, it doesn't allow Bryan to use exim for his purposes.  I
think he's also using it in daemon mode rather than being run from inetd.
weird lilo problem
2001-05-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
i have encountered an odd lilo problem.
i have a scsi HD (linux) and an IDE HD (win2k).
i configure lilo, run lilo, and it reports no errors.
reboot, and lilo hangs.
unplug IDE drive, run lilo again, and it reports no errors.
plug IDE drive back in, and lilo boots linux normally.  in fact, i can even
mount the IDE drive and read form it.
so basically, i just have to unplug my ide drive each time i run lilo to keep
things working.
in the bios i can select to boot from scsi or IDE first, which is how i switch
from linux to win2k.
this seems like a rather odd bug, and it is frustrating because i would like to
be able to boot win2k from the lilo prompt (currently i cant, because the idea
drive must be disconnected when i run lilo).
any ideas?
Also, I believe Bryan still wanted it to do internal delivery work, but
just wanted to turn off the port 25 listen (can't do it without disabling
the symlink in /etc/rcX.d (where X = your default run-mode as defined in
/etc/inittab) or rename it from S??exim to K??exim in your default
run-mode (either way works).
Exim will be called by its cron job, so local deliveries should work fine.
Inet would only call exim, if someone connected to port 25.
making sound work?
2001-05-24 Thread Dragos Delcea
hello all,
this is going to be a long one I guess:
Problem: instaling sound
OS: Debian 2.2r3 (all 3 binary CD's)
Hardware: yamaha opl sax
What I've accomplished:
pnpdump /etc/isapnp.conf
uncommented the appropriate entries in isapnp.conf (dmesg now show the
card detected)
added the (again) appropriate entries in /etc/modules
(sound-slot-0...,options opl3sa2 mss_io,dma1...dmabuf=1, etc). I swear
by those settings (I just copyed them from the previous install -same
debian- where they worked -don't ask me what I've done then-);
now at boot it sees the card,it tries to initialise it and gives me a
bunch of errors that 'mss_io must be set, ...blah-blah...'; I log in,
lsmod and it shows all the modules loaded (belive me I've seen the card
working and I know that are all)
OK, I ignore the errors, install xmms (libesd was installed before
-maybe that's the problem?-), select output plugin esd AND IT JUST POPS
UP THAT WINDOW that tells me to check if my sound card ...blah-blah.
Now, I'm new to debian, although not to linux. I was used to redhat and
it allways autodetected it whithout no problem.
Am I skipping something that's obvious, or am I doing something wrong?
Best regards from Bucharest Romania
Dragos
Samba won't start
2001-05-24 Thread Donald R. Spoon
Check your /etc/inetd.conf file to make sure those services are enabled
there.  You should be able to compare the malfunctioning machine's file
with a working machines file.  Mine are in the other services section.
If you are using a firewall on the dial-up router, you might have
something in your ipchains/iptables rulesets that is blocking these
ports.  Worth a check.
security: PAP v CHAP
2001-05-24 Thread Wilson Yau
Sorry to bother you about this trivial question, but I couldn't find any
detail, authorised  satisfactory answers whether from Google search for
pap v chap or pap vs chap or even within the context of several
HOWTOs, e.g. PPP-HOWTO.
I want to know the security issues between PAP  CHAP in PPP Dial-in
server running Debian Linux:
Qn./ Which is more secure, PAP or CHAP?
Some people said PAP, some told me CHAP.
If PAP is less secure, why most ISPs are using PAP for subscribers'
authentication?
N.B. I'd be grateful if anyone can point me to some other relevant
on-line documentations.
Many thanks.
When I tried modprobe lp, as suggested, I got the message:
Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/modules. (no such file
I am just about ready to give up on Debian 2.2. I did not have this kind of
trouble with earlier versions of Debian. What I really don't understand is
why I seem to be the only one with this printing problem. There is nothing
special about my computer or its set-up.
 Some people said PAP, some told me CHAP.
PAP sends your password in cleartext.  CHAP uses an encrypted
challenge-response method.  Therefore, CHAP is more secure than PAP.
Why do most ISPs only support PAP, and not CHAP?  For their convenience, not
yours.  CHAP requires that the passwords be stored on their system in a
cleartext, or reversibly-encrypted form.  Since most systems default to
storing passwords in a one-way encrypted form, this is more hassle for them.
Also, maybe they're worried about someone stealing their password file, and
then someone would have everyone's password.
You're wrong. 8^)=
The version of Gnus in CVS (Oort Gnus) comes with a file called
gpg.el, which adds the ability to sign, verify, encrypt and decrypt
mail (and I guess news, tho I never checked) in the MIME-attached
format.
I was using it for a bit, then I fell back to 5.8.8 when I ran out of
time to keep up to date on the development. I don't know if gpg.el
will work with the current release version of Gnus, but it may be
worth a look.
Fetchmail - fetches mail, hands it over to Exim which lurks and listens
on port 25. Unless there is more to your system than you have
mentioned,(ie you break up the post into seperate groups with procmail)
exim will place your mail into /var/spool/mail/user (your username) -
that is the default location.  Then your mailreader (Mutt, Kmail, Pronto,
or the great and glorious Gnus!!!) can be used to read it.
You compose your mail with your mailreader and then in whatever way is
right hit the send button/command.  Exim takes care of it from there -
terrfiic program!
But, you say that nothing happens - does that mean you are not getting
any mail in /var/spool/mail/vester (eg) ?  Or simply that gkrellm is not
detecting it? If the latter, just point gkrellm at
/var/spool/mail/vester.  If the former, ah well...
1. Put the next line in your fetchmailrc (by hand!)
set  syslog
try again to get your mail
and post  the last twenty lines of /var/log/maillog
2. It might help to see your fetchmailrc (passwords removed)
Good luck!
