# rmmod usbserial
#modprobe usbserial vendor=0x product=0x

            total      used      free    shared    buffers
cached
Mem:          495        489          6          0        10
69
-/+ buffers/cache:        409        86
Swap:          956        103        853

   $ mysqldump DATABASE TABLE -u USER -p  table.txt

   $ echo select * from TABLE | mysql DATABASE -u USER -p  table.txt

Controle de banda e cache

2008-08-22 Thread Saul Lima

3-Onde encontro tutoriais sobre a configuração do shaper?

grato,

Saul Lima

Bom, eu nunca havia ouvida falar disso.

Simplesmente instale o módulo ( no meu caso proftppgsql ) configurar e
pronto ...

Traffic Mirroring for Debugging

2008-08-22 Thread Volkan YAZICI
Hi,

In one of our servers, I want to debug a network server daemon. The
problem is I don't have luxury for a downtime or to iterrupt related
server's network traffic. Current routing structure looks like below.

  VPN Switch (192.168.1.1) - Server Machine (192.168.1.2)

To debug the related server daemon, I planned to redirect the network
traffic to a second sandbox server. Planned routing structure is:

  VPN Switch (192.168.1.1)
  |
  +- Temporary Linux Machine (192.168.1.10)
  ||
  |+- Server Machine (192.168.1.2)
  +-- Sandbox Server Machine (192.168.1.20)

For test purposes, I configured a client to connect to 192.168.1.10
(instead of actual server, 192.168.1.2). But I couldn't manage to
redirect incoming traffic of 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.2 and
192.168.2.20 machines. How can I get such a mirrored redirection?

Furthermore, I first considered using DNAT of iptables, but learnt that
it doesn't support multiple destinations without load-balancing. Anyway,
I wanted to give it a try for just a single machine. I connected to 1.10
machine and typed below iptables command:

  # iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 192.168.1.10 -j DNAT --to-destination
192.168.1.20
  # iptables -L -n -t nat
  Chain PREROUTING (policy ACCEPT)
  target prot opt source destination
  DNAT 0-- 0.0.0.0/0192.168.1.10 to:192.168.1.20

  Chain POSTROUTING (policy ACCEPT)
  target prot opt source destination

  Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
  target prot opt source destination

And started a netcat listener on 1.20 machine:

  # nc -l -p 2310

Then tried to connect to the started nc listener from 1.10 machine:

  # nc -vvv 192.168.1.10 2310
192.168.1.10: inverse host lookup failed: Unknown host
  (UNKNOWN) [192.168.1.10] 2310 (?) : Connection refused
   sent 0, rcvd 0

Gosh! Even couldn't manage to make DNAT for a single address work
properly. Any helps will be really really appreciated.

Regards.

Why don't you bridge the interfaces of 192.168.1.10 ? In that case, you
need to reconfigure client to point to 192.168.1.20 and you can sniff
your network via the 192.168.1.10 machine ?

Hope this helps,

You don't have to switch your whole system to unstable, and I did not
suggest that you do. Just downloading the lsb-base package from
packages.debian.org and installing it with dpkg -i would have been
sufficient.

Re: Traffic Mirroring for Debugging

I suppose you have multiples interfaces on your 192.168.1.10. Normally,
you have multiple IP addresses on your 192.168.1.10, one address for
each interface. If you bridge interfaces, all your interfaces will have
one and only one IP address 192.168.1.10. If you prefer, your machine
(192.168.1.10) will work as switch.

You can see the beginning of this article (no need to use the firewall
part, use only D1 or D2 depending on your configuration):

http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/securing-debian-howto/ap-bridge-fw.en.html
Search also on google with debian+bridge. I'm french and I have many
links but only in my language.

Wacko,
you haven't got a script that does that have you? (Identifying the
process that is hidden from /proc/PID?) Seems a bit laborious doing it
manually more than once.

As per my original mail above, these two commands will show you the
hidden processes.

First one asks chkrootkit why it thinks there is an LKM Trojan on the
system.

Second one is the helper script run by chkrootkit that lists the hidden
processes but can be run directly.

I am still seeing output from these commands, but the daily chkrootkit
email warning of LKM Trojan has now disappeared!!

Thanks for the low-down on chkrootkit.

That's the same behaviour from chkrootkit that I am seeing too. In my case the
hidden processes are all java, children of the process that is listed by ps.

It reminds me of an old bug with java and linux where ps would show multiple
processes for the java process. I doubt it's related to this issue but it makes
me suspect a bug.

SourceForge is not merely a repository. Its main role is a development
infrastructure.

There are a number of other somewhat similar sites. e.g.:
http://berlios.deb , http://savana.gnu.org/ (both based originally on
Sourceforge/GForge), Google Code, Cannonical's tool, and Microsolt's

There are also various more specialized sites. Many of them based on

That all seems to be fine, so what is the problem, the volume level?

I would log in at a terminal without starting X (or without logging in
with [xkg]dm if you normally use graphical login), and then run

speaker-test -t sine

If that starts without errors, keep it running, go to another terminal
(e.g. CTRL+ALT+F2), log in and start alsamixer. Experiment with the
volume levels (CURSOR UP/DOWN and LEFT/RIGHT), especially Master and
PCM, until you hear the sound from speaker-test at an adequate volume.
(Use ESC if you want to exit alsamixer.)

Does that work?

Lenny users: attn about Gnome/libxml2 breakage

2008-08-22 Thread Christian Jaeger
Today I did the usual dist-upgrade for my testing install, and it left
me with a badly broken (from user's perspective) installation, because
basically all Gnome applications stopped working. After a bit over 2
hours worth of investigation, I've found out how to solve the issue;
since I first looked here and didn't find anything gnome related, I'm
sending this to the list for the casual other victim.

Symptom: Gnome apps just hang, without outputting anything to
stdout/stderr (or .xsession-errors if started through the menu).

Problem: the apps segfault inside libxml2, and thereafter enter a
deadlocked state in a mutex (or in a select call); the former is
apparently a bug in libxml2, the latter seems to be the Gnome
functionality to pop up a windows which seems to have an issue on it's
own (so it's really two bugs happening here, obscuring the investigation
a bit.)

Solution: install libxml2 from unstable; this is actually a downgrade
(from libxml2 2.6.32.dfsg-2+lenny to 2.6.32.dfsg-2). I.e. apt-get
install -t unstable libxml2/unstable, but you need to have the unstable
sources in apt.sources and use apt pinning (I won't explain that here,
check other sources).

Cheers,
Christian.

Replication datas in cluster

2008-08-22 Thread Faria
Hello,

I have been configured the drbd+hearbeat.

If the cluster2 (master) is off, the cluster1 (slave) take all resources of
cluster2.

But if cluster2 is up, it receive all resources, and datas, but the datas not
come to cluster2, and the /home is not mounted in cluster1.

How I can to do the datas created in cluster1 go to cluster2 ?

Debian marketing team

2008-08-22 Thread Andreas Schuldei
Hi everybody!

The Debian Marketing Team is real. It just didnt get alot rolling yet
and no processes in place to work on anything.

But better late then never!

We look for people (both Debian Developers, Maintaners or Users)
around the world who are interested in helping.

  * It would be good to collect Debian related News centrally (wiki)
and depending on its content and impact spread them locally or globally.

  * We need to put together plan and understand both who uses
Debian and where Debian would fit in well and should be used.
For that we need marketing savvy people. We want to meet and work on
this. Have you been to Extremadura yet? Do you want to go there?
Sightseeing not included.

We started putting together ideas at http://wiki.debian.org/Marketing,
will use the existing mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and the irc channel #debian-marketing on irc.debian.org for communication.

On Thursday 21 August 2008, Curt Howland was heard to say:
But now, after the change in X where most of the specific
configuration options are autodetected, I'm back to having scroll
 areas.

Ok, here's the solution:

I had to add back the Server Layout section, as well as the Synaptics
Touchpad section, into the new minimalist autoconfigured xorg.conf:

Section InputDevice
Identifier Synaptics Touchpad
Driver synaptics
Option SendCoreEventstrue
Option Device/dev/psaux
Option Protocol auto-dev
Option VertEdgeScrollfalse
Option HorizEdgeScroll false
EndSection

Section ServerLayout
Identifier Default Layout
Screen Default Screen
InputDevice Generic Keyboard
InputDevice Synaptics Touchpad
EndSection

so that the generic mouse would not be used. Without adding the Server
Layout section, X always chooses the generic mouse, even if the
Generic Mouse section is commented out.

Unlike more recent touch pads, my 5-year old laptop has a smallish
touchpad, so I continually ran into the scroll areas, causing
switching between tabs in Konqueror, or bringing up many minimized
applications if the mouse was over the task list.

Hooray! So there are three things I must add to the xorg.conf:
Synaptics Touchpad section, Server Layout section,
and Driver nvidia to the Device section. But it is still a much,
much more simplified xorg.conf than it was, that's for sure.

Thanks to both of you for suggesting trains of inquiry,

Curt-

instant drawing of virtual terminal

2008-08-22 Thread hasan ali
How can I make new screenfulls of text get drawn instantly in a virtual
console, rather than having to wait for the text to scroll up. For example
when paging with less, I have to wait for the entire screen to scroll up
until I can read the new text, and this takes a long time when my cpu is
under heavy load. Thank You.

Unannounced kernel update today? (etch)

My systems informed me of a kernel update today, but

The last security kernel I see announced is from June 9th.

I run my own local repositories, mirrored using rsync(sync once
a day) -

debmirror -v --nosource --method=rsync -r :debian -h mirrors.kernel.org
--dist=etch /storage/debian/mirror/base
debmirror -v --nosource --method=rsync -r :debian-security -h
security.debian.org --dist=etch
--section=updates/main,updates/contrib,updates/non-free
--ignore-missing-release --ignore-release-gpg
/storage/debian/mirror/security

rsync -av
rsync://security.debian.org/debian-security/dists/etch/updates/Release*
/storage/debian/mirror/security/dists/etch/updates/

Maybe I'm just being overly paranoid ?

thanks

What does 'xhost' say when you run it as the normal user (before you
do the schroot)?

You may need to do an 'xhost local:' to allow any local (only your host
system logins) user to connect to the display. You will need the
DISPLAY=:0.0 exported in the schroot environment, at least.

issue; since I first looked here and didn't find anything gnome
related, I'm sending this to the list for the casual other victim.

Symptom: Gnome apps just hang, without outputting anything to
stdout/stderr (or .xsession-errors if started through the menu).

Problem: the apps segfault inside libxml2, and thereafter enter a
deadlocked state in a mutex (or in a select call); the former is
apparently a bug in libxml2, the latter seems to be the Gnome
functionality to pop up a windows which seems to have an issue on it's

 investigation a bit.)

Solution: install libxml2 from unstable; this is actually a downgrade
 (from libxml2 2.6.32.dfsg-2+lenny to 2.6.32.dfsg-2). I.e. apt-get
install -t unstable libxml2/unstable, but you need to have the
unstable sources in apt.sources and use apt pinning (I won't explain
 that here, check other sources).

Hi Christian, thanks for the warning and solution.

After my dist-upgrade last night, gdm would not start (it gave me a The
greeter program appears to be crashing message, and never got to the
login screen). But I could start Xorg with 'startx' and all my Gnome
programs worked fine (including gnome-appearance-properties).

Downgrading libxml2 to the pre-security-update version fixed gdm, so now
everything works.

Have you opened a bug report on this anywhere?

Regards,

I'd guess libgnomebreakpad.so is not accessible from within the
schroot environment.

And without it, GTK and nero can't do anything affecting the display.

*However*, this is all guesswork, my knowledge of schroot (or chroot,
for that matter) is pretty minimal.

What I do know is that a chroot is an isolated area that needs to have
all the support files, executables and libraries set up correctly within
the chroot environment for things to work. After all, it is a jail,
intended to keep the user from accessing things above the jail's root
directory.

Don't know if my ramblings will be of any help ;(, good luck may be the
only thing further I can say.

Nautilus fails to manage desktop

2008-08-22 Thread Todd A. Jacobs
I'm running nautilus 2.20.0-6, and after a recent reboot nautilus is
refusing to manage the desktop. I've tried killing nautilus, removing
~/.nautilus and ~/.gconf/apps/nautilus before relaunching it manually,
but it simply refused to show the contents of ~/Desktop on the desktop.

gconf-editor shows that /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop is
enabled, so that doesn't seem to be the issue, either.

What else can I do to restore my desktop icons and allow nautilus to
manage the desktop?
