También he

Seria algo asi:

# file prueba.avi
prueba.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 320 x 240, ~15fps, video: DivX
3 Low-Motion,
audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (mono, 22050 Hz)

home# file SN-S3-01.avi

SN-S3-01.avi: RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 624 x 352, 23.98 fps, video:
XviD, audio: MPEG-1 Layer 3 (stereo, 24000 Hz)

hace unos mails atras jajajaja

Suerte! :)

chmod 777 /mnt/disco

http://packages.debian.org

Hi Yuriy,

On domU1 - the routing mail server

I tried ffmpeg *almost* successfully.

I'll explain what I want to do: add a simple text presentation to a mymovie.mpg
video file.

That's what I did: in Cinelerra I loaded a file image.jpg, added a silent audio
track and converted all that into two files: image.wav and image.m2v. Then I
did:

 $ ffmpeg -i image.wav -i image.m2v -target dvd -acodec pcm_s16be -b 8000k -s
720x576 -ab 1536k -ac 2 -r 25 image.mpg

so obtainig the file image.mpg. Then I did:

 $ cat image.mpg mymovie.mpg  total-movie.mpg

and... they were properly joined together except for the fact the *sometimes*
yes and sometimes no, a noise is heard when playing total-movie.mpg back with
Mplayer, just as soon the second file begins. The noise immediately stops
hitting an arrow key on the keyboard.

Otherwise, you can splice videos together with offsets etc.. worked quite
well for me. .. and do format conversions quite easily.

What do you mean by offsets?

Thanks
Rodolfo

I think utf-8 locale may be the reason here.

To the OP: what viewer are you using to see the ps file?

I have seen that some unicode fonts are not shown properly in gv. It has
something to do with gs not being able to deal with unicode fonts
properly. For example, if I export an odf document containing some
unicode fonts to a ps file, gv shown boxes in their places. But if I
export the same file to a PDF file, the fonts are shown properly.

I would very interested in knowing how gs is made to understand unicode.

neither are muted, and both the speaker and headphones are enabled.

My sound card is an Analog Devices 1984 (AD1984) sound card, and I'm
running Debian Lenny (2.6.26-1-686 kernel) with ALSA 1.0.16. According
to thinkwiki (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/AD1984), this card should
be supported in the kernel and in the alsa driver in the versions I'm
 using.

so it looks as though the correct module is loaded.

I tried reconfiguring the sound card with alsaconf, which didn't fix
the problem, although it reported a successful status. Compiling ALSA
from alsa-source (using module-assistant) and manually loading the
modules didn't fix anything either (so maybe not an ALSA problem?).

Hi Kyle.

Have you tried other kernels when booting your Lenny, just to check that your
current sound problems are the same when booting other kernels.

Also looking at the ALSA-configuration.txt file for the 1.0.16 alsa driver,
and later versions, the AD1984 codec lists 3 model options, as below.

AD1984
   basic default configuration
   thinkpad Lenovo Thinkpad T61/X61
   dell Dell T3400

If you havn't already done so, it may be worth adding the following line
to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.

options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad

Reboot after doing this. You can restart alsa, but a reboot starts from
scratch, so may be the easier option.

You may find that opening alsamixer as user on the CLI (Gnomes terminal, or
KDE's Konsole), may show more controls, which may need to be unmuted (M key
to mute/unmute), or additional sliders that need to be pushed up to get sound
output.

I am puzzled that your lsmod shows the module, snd-hdsnd-hda-intel. I can't
find that module anywhere, but apparently in your case it is loaded, and 2
things are using it. Try the commands below, and post the output, to see what
if anything is using the sound, and may be preventing your sounds working.

lsof -n | grep /dev/dsp
lsof | grep /dev/snd

I've posted a ? to the alsa devel list about this snd-hdsnd-hda-intel module.
Just out of curiosity, because I've never seen it loaded before.

Best wishes.

Nigel.

do you need the OSS stuff? might it be that something is
grabbing the resource there and hogging it?

i also have a T61 and my /proc/asound/cards looks the same,
but for some reason (maybe the lack of OSS), my /dev/sndstat
has no Audio devices nor Mixers:

My sound, however, *does* work. The Gnome volume applet sees
it as HDA Intel (Alsa mixer) just like yours. Make sure
you're controlling the right device (File | Change Device)

Let me know if there are other comparative things i can post

Hi Rob.

Just a question, as I've poked my nose in on this thread.

Kyle's lsmod shows a module (snd-hdsnd-hda-intel) loaded. I can't find such a
module as existing.

would you post the output of lsmod | grep snd

Are you using the same 2.6.26 kernel as Kyle? The latest I've got on my Lenny
install is a 2.6.21, and I'm using an Audigy2 soundblaster card (emu10k1),
and sounds have always worked out of the box on this card. I do know though,
that there can be horrible problems with cards using hda intel.

Nigel.

ffmpeg: `buffer underflow' error

2008-12-24 Thread Rodolfo Medina
I posted the problem to the ffmpeg-user mailing list getting no reply.

I want to merge an audio and a video file into an mpeg file, and do:

$ ffmpeg -i minpian.wav -i minpian.m2v -target dvd -acodec pcm_s16be \
-b 8000k -s 720x576 -ab 1536k -ac 2 -r 25 minpian.mpg

, but get the following:

[...]

[dvd @ 0x8311670]buffer underflow i=1 bufi=4026 size=4096te= 344.9kbits/s
[dvd @ 0x8311670]packet too large, ignoring buffer limits to mux it

[...]

Does anyone in this list have experience with this?

Hi Daryl.

Did you have to set model options for snd-hda-intel on your T61 so as to get
the sounds working? I ask because the ALSA-configuration.txt file for the
1.0.16 alsa driver shows 3 options for the AD1984 codec, as below.

AD1984
   basic default configuration
   thinkpad Lenovo Thinkpad T61/X61
   dell Dell T3400

Perhaps your Thinkpad had sounds working out of the box, as per the basic
default configuration above. Although saying that, there is a specific model
option for the Thinkpad T61.

Would you confirm if you had to set a specific model option for the
snd-hda-intel module in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, so as to get sounds
working, as below.

options snd-hda-intel model=thinkpad

Your lsmod | grep snd-hda-intel, shows the snd-hda-intel module loaded, yet
Kyle's lsmod | grep snd-hda-intel, shows a different module, mainly
snd-hdsnd-hda-intel, as you can see from his post. I can't find any reference
to this module, and running modinfo as root for snd-hdsnd-hda-intel, shows no
such module, but in his case this module is loaded. All a bit bizarre. I've
asked on the alsa devel list about this module, but no replies yet, due to
the holidays perhaps.

Thanks for your reply, and best wishes.

Nigel.

Nigel,
I did a fresh Lenny install ~ 3 weeks ago and everything has worked
out of the box. (I believe even wireless this time)

Fortunately the most I've had to configure has been aesthetic.

starting/stopping compositing in xfce4 from the command line

Is it possible to start and stop compositing under xfce4 from the command line?
I trying to use screen rotation with the nvidia plugin and I found out that if
compositing is enabled when rotating the screen then part of it is unusable at
the rotated state (after doing xrandr -o left the I can move the mouse all over
the screen but windows are not shown on the bottom third or so). If I stop and
start compositing (or just stopping is enough) this is fixed. I would like to
write a script that restarts compositing after rotation to fix the issue which
requires command line control

I'll try to monitor it next time, while it is burning to see if something
 GROWS..

Are these disks real SCSI or are they USB disks that appear as sd[ab]?
This might be important. I have recently used a laptop disk in
a usb external box and it appears that the usb-storage sub-system
generates such a voluminous (debugging?) output that /var/log/syslog,
/var/log/kern.log and /var/log/debug grow amazingly fast. If your /var
is in /dev/sda6, 8.2G could be filled up quicker than your CDs. If your
/var is somewhere smaller, so much the faster.

It probably wouldn't, but maybe an upstream router could have. I'm

AFAIK the MTU is set by the initiator of the IP connection and any
intermediate router can't change it.

MTU is a property of a link, not of packets; I was suggesting that
perhaps a change occurred in the settings of a router through which
packets are going. This is probably much ado about nothing, but it
is at least easy to test, e.g., by bringing up the interface with a
lower MTU, and seeing if the problem goes away. Years ago I had to
mess with this to accomodate a (possibly broken) DSL or ppp interface.
Some of the symptoms described in this thread sounded familiar, e.g.,
sometimes things work great, other times slow or not at all.

Not exactly. The MTU is really a link-level property that's immutable.
However, path MTU discovery is not required for IPv4, so the MTU is generally
just set to a reasonable value at the endpoint. However, any intermediate
(or end-point) node can fragment any packet. Intermediate routers tend to do
that anytime the packet size exceeds the link MTU that they choose to route
down. The alternative is to down the packet and, IIRC, send back and ICMP
message that indicates the packet exceeds the MTU (which, in IPv4 is
generally ignored or lost).

In IPv6, path MTU discovery is required and fragmentation is only allowed at
the end points. Intermediate routers are required to drop (or re-route)
packets that exceed the MTU, and send a MTU notification (over ICMPv6) back.
The end-point is required to use this packet to adjust it's path MTU to allow
packets to be send via the smaller link.

IPv6 is not implemented widely yet, and there are certainly issues that may
continue to prevent it from being so. We need (or could certainly use) the
extra addresses, but there's a lot more to that involved in IPv6 --
records in DNS, mandated IPSec (I think), aforementioned constraints on
intermediate nodes, etc.

get list of config files (with aptitude) tha were manually changed

2008-12-24 Thread A. F. Cano
I know that this is checked somehow as I have been asked which config
file to install or leave alone when upgrading various packages with
aptitude.

What I would like is a command line (not interactive) that would give
me a list of all the config files in all installed packages that were
modified from the original/default values.

I'm doing a new lenny install on a blank drive because I want a clean
slate and none of the disk corruption/missing files/old useless files
that have accumulated over multiple releases. But I dread having to
re-configure every package manually or editing every config file
manually. I have the cruft output (236119 lines!) but this includes
kernel source (for multiple versions), /home files (which I'm backing
up and restoring anyway and much much more that it's not realistic
to go through.

Are there some options to aptitude (or dkpg?) that would give me this
list of only the config files that were changed? I've gone over the
aptitude reference manual but didn't see anything obvious. Maybe
someone more experienced with aptitude can point me in the right
direction?

Thanks.

A.
