Samy Mezani a écrit :

Bonjour,

Bonjour

A lundi soir

Très cordialement

Ludovic

P.S. 1

2009-09-12 Thread .:: Alfred Sawaya ::.
Bonjour,

kernel = /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.26-2-xen-686
memory = 128
name = dom1
ramdisk = /boot/initrd.img-2.6.26-2-xen-686
disk = ['phy:/dev/mapper/vg1-data,sda1,w','phy:/dev/mapper/vg1-swap,sda2,w']
hostname = dom1
root = /dev/sda1 ro
extra = 4

#xm create dom1.cfg -c
[...]
done.
INIT: Entering runlevel: 4
Starting enhanced syslogd: rsyslogd.
Starting periodic command scheduler: crond.

http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php?title=Rt2x00_GIT_instructions

rt2x00: subject of the patch

encontrarlo. Por apt se que esta:

# apt-cache search ralink
rt2400-source - source for rt2400 wireless network driver
rt2500-source - source for rt2500 wireless network driver
rt2570-source - source for rt2570 wireless network driver
firmware-ralink - Binary firmware for Ralink RT2561, RT2571, RT2661
and RT2671 wireless cards

encontrarlo. Por apt se que esta:

 # apt-cache search ralink
rt2400-source - source for rt2400 wireless network driver
rt2500-source - source for rt2500 wireless network driver
rt2570-source - source for rt2570 wireless network driver
 firmware-ralink - Binary firmware for Ralink RT2561, RT2571, RT2661 and
 RT2671 wireless cards

2009-09-12 Thread Ricardo Marcelo Alvarez

Hola,

A: Security information can be sent to secur...@debian.org or

If desired, email can be encrypted with the Debian Security Contact key

Q: I guess I found a security problem, what should I do?

A: If you learn about a security problem, either in one of your own
packages or in someone else's please always contact the security team. If
the Debian security team confirms the vulnerability and other vendors are
likely to be vulnerable as well, they usually contact other vendors as
well. If the vulnerability is not yet public they will try to coordinate
security advisories with the other vendors, so all major distributions are
in sync.

$ iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING -p tcp -i eth0 -s 0/0 -d 0/0 --dport 8080 -j
DNAT --to ip_interno

estar aqui (Ex. Virtua), se for PPPOE a interface é ppp0
-s 0/0 - qualquer ip de origem
-d 0/0 - qualquer ip de destino
--dport 8008 - porta 8080 de entrada
-j DNAT - Vai enviar toda requisição respentando o --dport e -p tcp

Dificuldades no acesso a internet, lentidao, o squid retornando pra varios
 pareceid).
Tirei o proxy transparente, e o acesso normalizou, nesse momento parei o

Estou usando as configuraçoes default para o cache_dir, alguem sabe me
 dizer

 problema
 foi similar nos dois casos.
Dificuldades no acesso a internet, lentidao, o squid retornando pra varios
 pareceid).
Tirei o proxy transparente, e o acesso normalizou, nesse momento parei o

Estou usando as configuraçoes default para o cache_dir, alguem sabe me
 dizer
qual e a configuraçao default do cache do squid, o diretorio eu sei que e
 no

NTFS is either inconsistent, or you have hardware faults, or you have a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows TWICE. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If you have SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first you must activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for the details.

Alguma dica? Não entendi essa mensagem de erro. O que eu poderia fazer para

Ok, I didn't know that. Thank you for the explication

awk -F '\000' '{print $1;exit}' /proc/$pid/cmdline

Well, no that does not handle the case where there are spaces separating
the fields. This was the case with one process in particular on my
system.

If gawk is installed I could do
gawk -F '[ \000]' '{print $1; exit}'

But that doesn't work with mawk, which is the default awk on Debian:

Re: 2.6.30 (Squeeze): no hda1 no sda1

2009-09-12 Thread Jonathan Kaye
Paul Gallaway wrote:

To summarize you would first create a mount point and then do the
mount manually. From there you can edit the real fstab and do some
other things using chroot etc. I did this recently on an install to
complete a grub install that was failing by invoking aptitude and
update-grub with chroot from within the busybox shell provided by the
installer. Really opened my eyes to what one could do with busybox as
I'd never had a need before!

Just to be totally sure of what you're saying, I do the above when thrown
into a shell after it fails to find the root file system, is that correct?
I'm not sure how it could find the root file system, that is, /dev/hda1,
with a mount command but not in the init script.
I understand what you're saying but up to now, using the root=UUID=xx
does not work but I have not done that when I have ALSO changed the fstab
designation to the UUID. I can try that but I'll have to check on the
syntax for specifying UUID in the fstab file.

Hadn't thought of passing the UUID as a boot option. Not sure that the
 fstab would be any better/different.
I've tried both. I edit the fstab while running 2.6.26 so it's a proper
error and reboot with the UUID spec in fstab instead of /dev/sda1 or
/dev/hda1 and I still get the same result: it doesn't find the root file
system.

What's funny is that Sidux, using 2.6.30 finds the hard drive with no
problem at /dev/sda1 and yet Squeeze with 2.6.30 can't find it there. The
only kernel-specific driver I'm using now is for my ancient webcam,
gspca, which is certainly not critical for the kernel to function
 normally. It remains a mystery.
 cheers,

Maybe purge the linux-image and reinstall? Perhaps something went
 wrong on install?
I've done that once already, to no effect. (only removing though, I can try
purging to remove any garbage from the earlier 2.6.30 install. I'm starting
to think that waiting is the best option. I have no problems with 2.6.26 and
no pressing need to upgrade the kernel.
Thanks for all your time and effort.

Since a few weeks I am thinking about the idea to provide support for

other reason. Besides participating in a local Linux user group I
thought of the idea to fill a google map with my contact details and
information about which physical area I am willing to provide support

Now I wonder, does something like this already exist? What do you think
about this idea? I for a person think this could be a good idea for
providing something like a physical support network for Linux.

Thanks for your critique in advance!

Great Idea,

Now and then i shop for custom made computers and loose components and i
usually go to the small pc shops (rotterdam) that build there own
systems and i have discussed with them why they don't sell any Linux
pre-installed computers, besides the couple of euro's they can spare on
the Linux license for a home desktop, i figured the money could be worth
it for them in the office suite's and something like ebox for small
company networks.

The main reason they don't do it is because of support, not that they
can provide any software support themselves for MS, but at least they
have somebody to blame (MS) if things go wrong and there are plenty of
people who provide support for it.

I think your idea could work out well if you can come up with a standard
desktop/server combination and a network of small retail stores that are
willing to join once they know that they are backed up by reliable local
support.

The main problem will be that you will need a organized network of
admins that do things the same standardized way, i think i don't have to
point out to you what an endless discussion that will be ;)

AFAIK you still can't boot straight from software RAID 5 or 10 (I
guessed that is what you're using). You'll need a small slice on every
disk, setup as software RAID 1 for /boot. The rest can be placed in
the RAID 5 or 10 partitions. Lilo can't see the disc /dev/md0 at boot
since it has no way of assembling the array. The kernel needs to be
booted first. When using RAID1, no array needs to be assembled, since
they are indentical copies. The boot manager can use the first disk it
finds.

Mayby the latest LILO of GRUB2 can handle /boot on RAID other than
RAID1, last time I searched I only found support for /boot on lvm, not
RAID5

issue with unknown load

2009-09-12 Thread Israel Garcia
I run a debian lenny server (VPS) on a virtal machine for a log time
without any problem until today. The VPs stops responding early in the
morning and logs* from /var/log say nothing. I had to reboot the VPs
from dom0 console because there wasn't a any way to login in. Collectd
shows a superhigh load, cpu and memory few minutes before freezing.

I've realized I have tools to know high load/cpu/memory but I don't
know what was the cause of it
My question is:

How can I monitor which process cause this load on my Vps? I need a
tool that keeps this information.
Have debian some command tools where I can find what I'm looking for?

thanks a lot

Or install apt-file and run

This will return matches in packages that aren't installed, as well,
so you can find out what you *need* to install to get a particular

True, but aptitude isn't actually doing any package management there
(it could be run as a non-root user). If you have something against it,
I figured maybe just using it to generate a list of packages, to be
processed later with an acceptable tool, might be more palatable.

I see your point.

Anyway, it is nice way to show how these --disable-columns -F '%p' are
used for scripting. I tend to use interactive mode with l. It was

[OTish] migrating from Access to .sql

2009-09-12 Thread Nuno Magalhães
Greetings,

Long ago i used MySQL Migration Toolkit to migrade from MS Access to a
simple .sql file, and i remenber it had many source and destination
options. The latest Toolkit for windows has many sources, but only
MySQL as destination, and it won't allow Agent-based migration. Maybe
i have a wrong version?

I tried the Generic x86/64 Linux TAR (bundled dependencies), which
needed some changes but didn't work:

- with JRE_LIB_BASE set to /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/amd64/ i got:

java.lang.ClassLoader.loaPress enter to continue.

- with JRE_LIB_BASE set to
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.16/jre/lib/amd64/ i got:
The connection to the MS Access database could not be established.
The following error occured.

sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbc.SQLDriverConnect(JdbcOdbc.java:3073)
sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcO

...both using ./run_migration and ./run_migration_simple. I did some
searches in the repos but found very little on unixODBC and Access,
and the mysql site isn't exactly easy to search... I've also done an
apt-get dist-upgrade a few days ago so i assume all the Java stuff i
loathe is up to date.

I remember i was really pleased with MySQL's Migration Toolkit and all
its options but now i'm kind of stranded. The destination DB will
eventually be MySQL[1], but i'd like to use a .sql file so i can make
all the changes i want to. It's not a direct migration, i must adapt
the source/destination schemas and to 'migrate' from the horrid
latin1_sweedish_ci (or anyway Access's latin1) to my utf8_bin in the
process.

I'm only specifying the .mdb file in the scripts, skipping
username/pass and conn string. The file has 666 perms and, except for
3 pop-ups warning about insecure objects, opens without issues. Trying
to open the .mdb with OpenOffice kinda freezes it.

Can anyone suggest a workaround for this *or* another tool to do the job?

Thanks,
Nuno

[1] in that case i'd have to open the server up to external
connections and expect the XP VM to handle it properly which isn't
happening - only sees the 'Net, not LAN... weird virtualbox stuff i
haven't figured out yet

its an error related by the bios accessing the disk which shuld be
/dev/md0.
I dont have much expirience with RAID so not shure whats
wrong here, any lead would be great.

AFAIK you still can't boot straight from software RAID 5 or 10 (I
guessed that is what you're using). You'll need a small slice on every
disk, setup as software RAID 1 for /boot. The rest can be placed in the
RAID 5 or 10 partitions. Lilo can't see the disc /dev/md0 at boot since
it has no way of assembling the array. The kernel needs to be booted
first. When using RAID1, no array needs to be assembled, since they are
indentical copies. The boot manager can use the first disk it finds.

Mayby the latest LILO of GRUB2 can handle /boot on RAID other than
RAID1, last time I searched I only found support for /boot on lvm, not
RAID5

The trick is to install GRUB and a kernel (and the initrd) where it can
be found. I will be happy if an improvement is devised that allows
native booting of of RAID 10. (I favor RAID 10 for certain purposes,
even if that makes me an oddball.)

What about RAID 0?

As you say, there some solutions, e.g., booting off a teeny-tiny flash
SSD, but nothing really satisfactory. Having /boot on a RAID 1
partition is not really any more satisfactory than that, although it
does avoid a separate device. At one time, I would have booted from
floppy, but that is no longer practical. A boot CD? Not really easily
done, but possible. (The trick would be automating the process. Don't
want to require someone to always be there to hit two arrow keys and
Enter, I expect.)

Should be possible? I might give this some consideration myself and

latin1_sweedish_ci (or anyway Access's latin1) to my utf8_bin in the

Resource management scheduling tool recomendation

2009-09-12 Thread Rob Gom
Hi there,
there is single PC. PC is used for testing. It tests external devices.
Test requires:
- external device to be tested
- test to be executed
- one or more PCI boards

Currently it is done like that:
#!/bin/bash
test.sh test_01 device_01
test.sh test_02 device_01
test.sh test_03 device_01
test.sh test_01 device_02
test.sh test_02 device_02
[...]

(Test itself knows how many boards does it need)

It is suboptimal, as some tests utilize only one board and other
tests, which could utilize another board(s) are simply waiting for
test to finish.

I would like to do it another way instead:
- [BEGIN] insert tests into pool
- [UNTIL END] choose from pool test, which can be run now (device and
PCI boards required are not occupied) and run it, then release board
and device

I could automate it using some locking scheme (flock or something),
but maybe there's something simplier. A tool, which would allow me to
define resources and tasks, and then take care of executing them.
I have just noticed gridengine, but it seems to be too heavy for that
purpose. Would you recommend anything else?

Regards,
Robert

In short, it looks very good. I am using a very carefully customized
.config file, however, and no experimental/unstable features such as KMS
 (kernel mode setting).

KMS works very fine here (recent Intel graphics) since I learned that
you have to disable the framebuffer in the kernel config. :) That's a
really great feature. Switching from X to a VT is almost as fast as
switching workspaces.

Installing onto an old laptop

2009-09-12 Thread AG
I have an old generic laptop which has Slackware 10.1 installed. It has
access to the Internet as well as to a small LAN. The machine it is
connected via a hub to is my main desktop/ workstation which runs Debian
testing. The CD-ROM drive in the laptop does not work. This is a
hardware issue, so installation via CD is not feasible.

The laptop does have a couple of USB drive sockets, but I don't think
that the BIOS is sufficiently modern to boot from a USB drive (the
laptop was bought circa 2002 from a company that has since gone belly up).

What is the best method for getting this laptop up and running in the
21st Century with Debian testing?

Thanks for any ideas/ suggestions.

Since you already have a Debain system on your network, set it up as a boot
server:

http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/478

Another option is to take the hard drive out of the computer, and either put
it into another computer, or into an external USB enclosure, and install
Debian onto it from another computer, then move the hard drive back.

This worked for me:

1. On the laptop download the netboot kernel linux and initial ram
disk initrd.gz from ftp.{countrycode}.debian.org to the root of the
first partition on the hard drive. You do not need a .ISO file.

2. On the laptop run grub (e.g., from a PC-DOS floppy or a linux file
system) and enter the following commands:
root (hd0,0) # assuming the files in step 1 are on the
first parition of an IDE drive
kernel linux
initrd initrd.gz
boot

3. Complete the installation over the internet.

Cool! I look forward to playing with it.

My understanding is that you need development versions of some of the X
system software to use the radeon KMS driver with X. I have quite of
few things to which I have to give priority right now, but should have
some time to look into these things around the time I buy that new card. ;)

Issue regarding smb problems

2009-09-12 Thread John Haggerty
In the past I was able to get smb to work so that I could share windows
programs in my system under wine. This was done using the only thing that
worked in the past smb4k which I was launching from X11 however what has now
happened is that I am getting signal 11 errors and the share is not
appearing in my df report for disk usage either :(. I have seen a number
of bugs. Is there some way to deal with this or workaround on this one?

No they do not.

This key to this issue is that when one consults an expert, no matter
how many credentials they have, one must consider their statements
critically.

An expert (or even a nuby/amatur) who claims I know how to do this
should get the benefit of the doubt and be believed. Similarly, an
expert who says I do not know how to do this should also be
believed. If they say I have tried many ways to do this and found
none that works they should be believed and probably consulted as to
how to not accomplish the goal.

But if they say I know that it is not possible for anyone to do this
then they do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. They have to
provide a proof. Now if they can elaborate by saying the laws of the
universe prohibit anyone from doing this and can provide a valid
proof then they should be believed.

But the authorities you quote do not have such a proof. In fact they
do not even have any evidence. What they have is an opinion as to the
difficulty of reaching the goal, about which they should be believed.

Please do not confuse that is hard with that is impossible.

Meditatively,

This sounds like a fun way to meet debootstrap. [1] Hopefully you have a
partition around you can play with. I've read about destroying swap to
get things going. Then once you have a very basic Debian system up and
running, reclaim the rest of the disk.

Yes, this can be done. From my mount output:

/dev/sda6 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
/dev/sda7 on /home type ext3 (rw)

The boot loader (at least Grub) can load components from logical
