Bonjour,

Extrait de « man exports » :

all_squash

Nov 12 10:48:34 mailserver-01 dovecot: pop3-login: Login: user=operador,
method=PLAIN, rip=190.199.104.17, lip=200.47.79.7, TLS
Nov 12 10:48:34 mailserver-01 dovecot: POP3(operador): Disconnected: Logged out
top=0/0, retr=0/0, del=0/0, size=0

correctamente.

Para SMTP (sendmail: correo saliente):

Nov 12 10:50:19 mailserver-01 sm-mta[31949]: STARTTLS=server,
relay=190-199-104-17.dyn.dsl.cantv.net [190.199.104.17] (may be forged),
version=TLSv1/SSLv3, verify=NOT, cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA, bits=256/256
Nov 12 10:50:21 mailserver-01 sm-mta[31949]: oACFKG0U031949:
190-199-104-17.dyn.dsl.cantv.net [190.199.104.17] (may be forged) did not issue
MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA

He aquí el dilema :S

An error happened during the SMTP session.
Use send queues messages from the main window to retry.

not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to
 MTA

  He aquí el dilema :S

An error happened during the SMTP session. Use send
 queues messages
from the main window to retry.

 algo cosas
  interesantes:

Έκδοσή πυρήνα;

Το όλο πράμα φαίνεται και με την netstat:

 postmortem:~# netstat -pan | grep LISTEN|grep apache
 tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:*

 αρχή της γραμμής tcp6;

καθορίζεται από το /proc/sys/net/ipv6/bindv6only.

2010-11-12 Thread Alex Ballas

 /proc/sys/net/ipv6/bindv6only

 Στο config του apache έχω:

 NameVirtualHost *:80
 Listen 80

 εξηγείται ότι μετά με restart παίζει και σε ipv6;

Καλό θα 'ταν να μην μπλέξεις με το /proc/sys/net/ipv6/bindv6only και να
αλλάξεις το NameVirtualHost *:80 σε NameVirtualHost 0.0.0.0:80 για να

map '-' to '_' and '_' to '-'

While working on my Debian box (which btw is a mix of Lenny and Squeeze), I
find that I type the underscore character ('_') more often than the dash

etc.,

Typing '_' involves holding the shift key while typing '-' does not involve
any. I am wondering if there is a way at the OS (or shell) level solution to
remap '-', '_' one to another so that typing '_' does not involve holding
shift key but typing '-' does.

Any ideas/comments/suggestions/pointers etc.,?

Thank You for Your time and answer, Johan:

The i486 kernel will run on an i586 box. Even if you compile the
kernel for i586 how much speed are you really going to get? A few
percent? And how much time do you spend in kernel as opposed to
userland? Maybe 3-20 percent depending on what you are doing right?
So, in rough numbers, that's a 10% off on 10% of what you do for a
 net of roughly 1%.

Actually I am not so much concerned as to speeding up the machine as
for using its all abilities - MMX tech. for example. I do not in any

packages for different CPUs. In past times I saw for i586 CPU packages

If you actually care about speed, you might upgrade to a new cpu.
People should be giving away pentium-iii and early athlon boxes for

Load_Cycle_Count to stop growing.

2010-11-12 Thread Sthu Deus
Good day.

I have some trouble with growing number of

Load_Cycle_Count

parameter of my HDD. And the

Temperature_Celsius

as well. - Shown by smartctl utility.

So, my question is, How I can stop it spin down? - As I do understand,
w/ the help of sdparm utility (it is SATA drive).

Or may returm to the manufacturer defaults of the drive if any? - As I
tried before to play w/ laptop-mode-tools package, and I did not like
the results.

Or where I can look for a utility that spins it down? In the BIOS I saw
no option for spinning it down - so it is out of culprit list.

Thank You for Your time.

failure of gnome baker

2010-11-12 Thread Francesco Pietra
In my updated debian i386 sqeeze/gnome and debian amd64 lenny/gnome i
have no more workable cd-dvd burners. Gnome-baker reports burning (CD
data disk) OK, however the CD is unreadable. In contrast, k3b works
fine for both CD and DVD data disks. However, installation of k3b

apt-get update
apt-get install k3b

brought other problems in:

--command k3b also started the viewer VMD, which had to be closed
twice in order that k3b could be used.

--On restarting the computer, gnome could no more be called and a
RedHat window was brought in instead.

I liked gnome for years, and I use certain gnome-specific scientific
applications, such as GChempain. However I notice now that KDE has a
much more versatile burner (k3b), even if gnome baker could be used.
Also the pdf viewer okular (better that Adobe for certain scientific
uses) is part of KDE and alleviated from having to install Adobe. I
believe that gnome developers should consider these observations.
Lukily, okular can be used without problems even in gnome.

Thanks
francesco pietra

data CD and DV D. Unfortunately, k3b installs too much kde, preventing
startx to launch gnome (a window from RedHat is called instead). Also,
command 'k3b' calld VMD (a viewer package); until VMD is closed twice,
k3b does not work. I had to --purge remove everything about k3b and
kde.

This means that I was unable - at this moment - to get a comfortable
cd/dvd burner with debian-gnome.

After moving /etc/modprobe.conf to the /etc/modprobe.d directory and naming it
parport.conf and rebooting, apparently everything else in my system behaves the

Making /tmp noexec

2010-11-12 Thread James Allsopp
Hi,
I was reading this page about making tmp non-executable
(http://pario.no/2007/10/04/making-tmp-non-executable/) but it seems a
little out of date as I'm using Squeeze.

I changed fstab, and edited by 70debconf to

DPkg::Pre-Install-Pkgs {mount -o remount,exec
/tmp;/usr/sbin/dpkg-preconfigure --apt || true;};
DPkg::Post-Invoke{mount -o remount /tmp;};

is this correct? Aptitude still works fine, but I was wondering if
anyone had experience of pitfalls with this?

Would I replicate this for my /var partition and is there any point to
doing this with /home?

Thanks,
Jim

I dunno how that adapter works (and it's quite expensive and low
performance! wouldn't have been better to replace your current VGA card

correctly, you are looking for a Xinerama/Dual view separate layout, what
is quiteeasy to get from one VGA card with dual outputs.

The problem I see here is to understand how Xorg sees the USB adapter and
how could you configure a dual view setup with that device or even
whether if it is possible to achieve that (I'm not sure Xorg can manage
two separate VGA adapters and join both desktops but run as independent
screens).

Nouveau and Nvidia backlight brightness

Hello,
I am running Squeeze on my laptop: a macbook pro 7,1.Most is going well,
except the backlight screen brightness. Using the nouveau driver (this
laptop has a 320M), it sets my max_brightness to 1025 according to /sys/.
Unfortunately, a brightness of 1025 is extremely dim, and supposedly the
brightness should be more like 40,000 on this guy. Anyway, installing the
NVidia proprietary driver yields strange results (download from NVidia, not
debian repos), there is nothing in the folder /sys/class/backlight at all!

Actually, I swerved into getting it working this morning. No, it's not

got this at a fairly reasonable price.

Anyway, I have specified all devices in xorg.conf now and have the

treats it as a separate workspace and switching workspaces on the main

Hello. Failed to google a result (keyword: MIPS FLOPS Linux) here I
ask
in the list. Wikipedia mention MIPS (million instructions per
second)
and FLOPS (similar but calculate float point) for some of CPU
performance indicators. Is there some tool to benchmark this in
Debian?
Thanks.

MIPS and FLOPS are artificial measurements that don't necessarily
relate to the actual applications you are running. Do a Google on
Linux Performance Testing to get a large list and select the tool or
tools that most closely match your application who's performance is
of interest.

I liked gnome for years, and I use certain gnome-specific scientific

much more versatile burner (k3b), even if gnome baker could be used.
Also the pdf viewer okular (better that Adobe for certain scientific

believe that gnome developers should consider these observations.
Lukily, okular can be used without problems even in gnome.

I use k3b in gnome under squeeze because it has features I need at
times. You'll need to install a whack of kde depends along with it if
you don't have something kde installed already but it works, at least
for me. I have a few kde apps installed that I can't find gnome
equivalents for and they work well.

I've often thought that gnome could use a better or more full featured
burning app. I rarely burn cd's any more so brasero may be a solution to
but I haven't needed to use it so I can't say from experience.

This used to be a simple matter of proper xorg configuration. I
don't know if it still applies, but basically:

Add a second Device section for your new adapter. Let's say
the identifier is USBadapter.

Add a second Monitor section for the attached monitor.
Identifier is Monitor2.

Add a new Screen section:

Section Screen
Identifier Second Screen
Device USBadapter
SubSection Display
Depth 24
Virtual 12801024 # or whatever
EndSubSection
EndSection

and finally, modify your section ServerLayout to add this
line:

Screen Second Screen RightOf Default Screen # or
LeftOf, or Above or Below

Restart X, and it ought to be good.

You may need to increase your default Virtual to encompass both
screens.

Installing the driver for my new printer Samsung ML-1915 (the official

Since then, at every boot the following warning message appears:

/etc/modprobe.conf exists but does not include /etc/modprobe.d!

Besides, in the virtual consoles the characters have got smaller, and a few
more strange things happen. So I want to get rid of that file. But if I
remove it, or even only append to it the line:

  include /etc/modprobe.d/

, the error message disappear but the printer does not work. It may have
something to do with the load of /dev/mfp4, the printer port.

Stephen Powell zlinux...@wowway.com writes:

[...] First, eliminate the include record that you added to
/etc/modprobe.conf. Then issue the following commands:

 # mv /etc/modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.d/parport.conf
 # update-initramfs -uk `uname -r`
 # shutdown -r now

Stephen Powell zlinux...@wowway.com writes:

Now look for evidence that the parport_pc module is getting the options
passed to it in the options statement in /etc/modprobe.d/parport.conf. For
 example:

dmesg|grep parport

You should see a message that identifies the I/O port address, the interrupt
level (IRQ) and the DMA channel that was specified in
 /etc/modprobe.d/parport.conf.

If you do, then it is safe to assume that the correct options are being
passed to the kernel module. And that, after all, is the intended purpose

you may be able to find the script and edit it to look in

you are pretty much out of luck.

# dmesg|grep parport
[ 11.593036] parport0: PC-style at 0x378 (0x778), irq 7 [PCSPP,TRISTATE]
[ 71.028713] lp0: using parport0 (interrupt-driven).

Then I edited the `install.sh' script as you suggested. I'm pretty sure to
have replaced all the possible occurrences of any expression resulting in
/etc/modprobe.conf with the corrispondent instance that gives
/etc/modprobe.d/parport.conf in a clever manner. Then I reinstalled and
rebooted, but the printer is dead. It lives up again if I restore things as
the manufacturer wants: /etc/modprobe.conf. Editing that script is just the
same as merely replacing by hand /etc/modprobe.conf with
/etc/modprobe.d/parport.conf.

Now I wish to uninstall all and use the debianized packages at:

  http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/

Are they the same that you use? Can you check the toner level with them?
That's the only reason Samsung software is useful. If there's another way, I'm
going to uninstall it.

Thanks
Rodolfo

 What to do?

Did you install xorg or at least xinit? This is not necessarily done
automatically when you install gnome, AFAIK (to allow people to run the
X server on another computer if they want to).

Re: Nouveau and Nvidia backlight brightness

I am running Squeeze on my laptop: a macbook pro 7,1.Most is going well,
except the backlight screen brightness. Using the nouveau driver (this
laptop has a 320M), it sets my max_brightness to 1025 according to
/sys/. Unfortunately, a brightness of 1025 is extremely dim, and
supposedly the brightness should be more like 40,000 on this guy.
Anyway, installing the NVidia proprietary driver yields strange results
(download from NVidia, not debian repos), there is nothing in the folder
 /sys/class/backlight at all! Kernel 2.6.32-5 amd64.

Maybe related to this (message #25)?

pommed: brightness control no longer working on macbook pro

Re: linux-image for i586

Thank You for Your time and answer, Dirk:

Not all i586-CPUs have MMX, so I'm not sure if the kernel would use
MMX in i586-mode (despite for runtime-mmx-detection, but this option
you can have without march=i586). And you are always free to
  a) compile a kernel with march=i586
  b) use mmx in your favorite userland application

Could You be a bit more specific here w/ b) option?
 Thank You, once again.

Don't expect any WOW. If your application uses MMX, it does not lose
this option on a non-mmx-kernel, and vice versa.

Dirk.

GDB and ld.so?

2010-11-12 Thread Oliver Schneider
Hi folks,

does anyone here know the magic incantation required to get GDB to accept a
breakpoint within the loader (ld.so), in particular on dl_main(), on a x86_64
system?

(gdb) set environment LD_PRELOAD /path/to/debug/ld.so
(gdb) b dl_main
(gdb) run ...

does not seem to do the job.

Thanks in advance,

// Oliver
