Basic shell substitution. The task there is to include (foo) in the prompt if debian_chroot is set to foo. Initially you might think, I will use $debian_chroot and if it is empty then it will be empty and if it is set to foo then it will expand to foo. Almost works. That would expand to foo not (foo) with the parens around it. We could almost do this with an if then test. In concept we want: if [ -n $debian_chroot ]; then emit ($debian_chroot) fi That is basically what we want to do. But the above isn't the right way to do it in the shell. Instead we want to use shell parameter expansion. There are many commands available. One is the colon and plus operators. man bash ${parameter:+word} Use Alternate Value. If parameter is null or unset, nothing is substituted, otherwise the expansion of word is substituted. If $parameter is null or unset then do nothing. The entire ${...} disappears. But if $parameter contains a value then replace the ${...} part with the value of word. It is recursive so word may contain another variable expansion. ${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)} If $debian_chroot is set then replace the grouping with ($debian_chroot) with the parens around it. The ${parameter:+word} construct is used a lot of shell programming. Editorial remark: I really wish the author of /etc/debian_chroot had simply made that /etc/chroot_name or some such. Because by naming it /etc/debian_chroot guarantees that no other distribution will pick that convention up and use it. If it had been /etc/chroot_name or something non-distribution specific then it would have been possible to share across other distributions. Sigh. Bob signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Debian 8 no arranca tras instalación
S2. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-spanish-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? -- Manolo Díaz -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-spanish-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.

RE: Colorized Prompts Problem
Hi, I entered the following in .bashrc PS1='\033[01;33m\h:\w\$ \033[00m' to colorize the prompt (very handy to find the prompt when a command fills the console screen with lines of text) The only problem occurs when the next entry is more than one line. In that case the entry wraps around without moving to a new line. I had the same problem using the prompt I found at first, I think it is the same you are using. It seems there is a problem in closing the ANSI code string. Someone else gave me this: PS1='\[\e[0;31m\]${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\h:\w\$\[\e[m\] ' This does not have the problem, I have been using this now for over a year, no problems at all. Bernhard Schmidt be...@birkenwald.de wrote: This is reproducible. To fix it it is enough to boot into the Wheezy kernel (even with init=/bin/sh), then reboot. It apparently does something to the root-fs (fsck?) which allows the Jessie kernel to boot. Ben Hutchings had the right idea in Bug#783620. Apparently the reboot leaves the filesystem in an unclean state. The new initramfs is written in the journal, but not on-disk yet. Grub2 doesn't read the journal, so it finds a corrupted initramfs. A boot with the old kernel replays the log and the initrd can be read. It is still unclear why the reboot is unclean at all. A sync before reboot should help. So, no, from my perspective, that page does /not/ describe precisely what wheezy-updates is. Ok, since there appears to be some kind of confusion, I'll explain. There are 5 official repositories for Debian wheezy: (1) debian wheezy (2) debian-security wheezy/updates (3) debian wheezy-updates (4) debian wheezy-backports (5) debian wheezy-backports-sloppy (Same for jessie. squeeze is very similar, but backports is at a different location for historical reasons.) Repository (1) contains the packages of the latest wheezy point release (currently 7.8). Every time a new point release is made, e.g. 7.9 in the near future, this repository will be updated with new packages, but otherwise remains static. Repository (2) contains security updates, i.e. updates to packages that fix known security holes. Each update is accompanied with an advisory describing the security hole. Repository (3) contains a select number of packages from the pending point release, but is available immediately after the packages have been uploaded and accepted, not just at the time the point release is made. Every time a point release is made, the packages in this repository will also be found in repository (1). The reason this repository exists is to provide quicker for some specific packages. I already mentioned the examples of virus scanner definitions and timezone database updates. Note that virus scanner definition updates do NOT qualify as security updates per se, since it's not a security bug that's fixed by this. Repository (4) contains backports from jessie to wheezy. These are packages that will _never_ be part of a wheezy point release. They are provided for convenience reasons, because sometimes you need more recent versions of certain software packages. For example, wheezy-backports contains a more recent version of LibreOffice and the same kernel version as Jessie has. Backports do not necessarily receive the same amount of support the release itself receives, there it depends on the backporter as to how well maintained it is. (The examples I mentioned are well-maintained in backports from my experience, but with other packages YMMV.) Repository (5) contains backports from stretch (jessie + 1) and sid to wheezy. The policy of backports (4) is to be able to upgrade a system from wheezy + wheezy-backports to jessie (without jessie-backports), whereas backports-sloppy (5) also contains packages that are either not in jessie or newer versions than even jessie has. Now what to put in your sources.list? - At the very minimum, add the main repository (1) + the security updates (2). This means that you will have to take care of upgrades at every new point release only - or when one of the packages you are using has a security flaw and needs to be fixed. - If you are running software such as virus scanners or something that relies on accurate time zone information (say you are running a web site that needs to know about time zones because lots of people internationally use it - and you want to be able to keep up with countries that decide with just 1 or 2 days of advance notice when they change their time zone rules - like Egypt recently did), also add the wheezy-updates repository (3) to get updates to those things faster, not only at point releases. You will need to update slightly more often. After each point release, you will have the same set of packages as before. - If you need a more recent version of a package, you might find it in wheezy-backports (4). Note that if you are using backports, you should be a bit more knowlegable when it comes to using apt and solving dependency conflicts. And you should definitely read the changelogs and NEWS files of packages before taking the backports version, else you might run into a few surprises. (Example: package A drops support for feature B in Jessie. Wheezy's version still had that feature, but Jessie's doesn't anymore. Since the package in wheezy-backports comes from Jessie, it will also not have feature B anymore. This case is mentioned in the release

Bonno Bloksma Thank you, this works while nothing else did. The sequences to start and end coloring are different and the colors are different too. Perhaps it's worth deconstructing this into its constituents: '\[\e[0;31m\]${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\h:\w\$\[\e[m\] ' Take out ${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)} As explained before, this prints the value of $debian_chroot but uses the :+ trick to avoid printing () when $debian_chroot is empty/unset. '\[\e[0;31m\]\h:\w\$\[\e[m\] ' Take out the two \[ and \] brackets. As explained before, these brackets must enclose anything that doesn't advance the cursor, ie the colouring strings. That tells bash to ignore those strings in calculating how much room the prompt has taken up. That's the fix for your original complaint. '\e[0;31m\h:\w\$\e[m ' Take out \h:\w\$ and that space at the end. That's the prompt that you want to see coloured. (In your original, the space at the end of the prompt was coloured too.) '\e[0;31m' and '\e[m' Now all that remains is colour-on and colour-off. Off: Where you had \033[00m this has \e[m because the 00 before the m is unnecessary (blank is zero), and \e is a clearer way of writing the ESCape character (octal 33) in more modern versions of bash. (The latter eliminates one source of confusion: the mixture of octal and decimal numbers.) On: Similarly, where you had \033[01;33m this has \e[0;31m which, as pointed out below, changes the foreground colour to normal red. So you should set it back to \e[1;33m It is harmless, but that leading 0 that you had in 01;33m could be a cause for confusion; the numbers before the m are *decimal* whereas \033 is octal. So 33m actually means 30 + 3 m where 30 is the foreground colour, 3 is the yellow, and m is colouring rather than, say, moving the cursor. So if the machine is hot at boot, the fan runs and stays running regardless of temperature changes. If the machine is cool at boot, the fan doesn't run, regardless of temperature changes. I've discovered interesting behavior with the sensors command and acpi -t. Sensors currently shows: acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1:+40.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) - This never changes after boot coretemp-isa- Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +56.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) Core 1: +57.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) However acpi -t shows: Thermal 0: ok, 40.0 degrees C The temp1 line reported by sensors never changes after boot, and neither does the output from acpi -t. So it looks like acpi is looking at the wrong temperature, as it's only the Core 0 and Core 1 temperatures that change. On 2015-05-02 10:02, Glen Reesor wrote: Some more information...
