Hello!
How to tell Fvwm2 to run Netscape at startup? And how to tell it to
restart Fvwm2, when Netscape is closed? Is there a way for xdm to login
from a script. So I would give username and passwd in one file , so I
will not have to type it in every time?
Thanks!

At startup

2001-03-05 Thread Ales Jerman
Hello!
I followed instructions on this page:
so I had to copy file xterm to /etc/init.d/ and run 'update-rc.d xterm
defaults 99'.
So next time it shuld connext to XDM server at boot time.
But it didn't.
At startup it wrote this:
/etc/init.d/rc: /etc/rc2.d/S99xterm: Permision denied
And then prompt
Login:
Here is what is writen in xterm file:

So, why is permision denied? I copied it by root.
Thank you!

Ethernet

2001-02-14 Thread Ales Jerman
Hello!
I installed Debian2.2 on 486 machine. I installed base system from
floppies(11 floppies). The problem is that I can't ping other IP. I can
ping only my IP(IP of this machine) but not others. What am I doing wrong?
route shows IP of gateway, ifconfig shows my IP. But anyway it doesn't
work!
Thanks!

Keyboard

2001-02-10 Thread Ales Jerman
Hello!
I installed Debian 2.2 on 486. After reboot the keyboard started to act
strangelly - When you tiped one a it wrote aa, multiple
letters, sometimes it didn't write even a letter. At the end it stopped
working. At start I can push Del buton to get into BIOS, but ones that
Linux loades, the keyboard is death. So, how to deal with this problem? At
startup Linux says:

AT Keyboard not connected
or
AT no Keyboard

or something like this.
On Debian is only Base System from 11 floppyes installed.
Tahat is maybe also because I might defined devices that are not
installed(hardware), so there was written that in that case linux might
not respond. How to delite modules? There are some modules for PCMCIA, and
on startups it shows that that device wasn't find.
There is another problem
too: I can ping localhost and IP of this computer that I defined in
/etc/network/interfaces, but I can't ping other computers on the net. What
am I doing wrong?
Thank you!
Bye,

I've installed, and happily run, potato on a 486 with 8M of RAM (an old
notebook, for which a ram upgrade is difficult). It works, but I hope
you're a very patient man to survive the install.

I have some old 386 30Mhz, 486 100Mhz machines with 4 MB of RAM and 50 - 100 MB
of
HDD with ethernet card, on which I would like to run Linux with X server (for X
terminals). I know that that is difficult, but I have fast ethernet, so for
HDD, the
NFS would be a solution. But I also think that installing an older version of
Debian
would be much better (because I think that older versions of programs require
less
memory and CPU than newer versions), but I don't know if that is possible. Can I
install perhaps Debian 1.0 by dselect from net? So, I would put InstallFloppy
in,run
computer, then run dselect (or apt-get) and instal Debian - is that realistic?
Well,
I hope it is.
Any links about setting up X terminals?
Thank you for all!

How to set mouse as serial device and not as PS/2 device?
Because on the startup it shows that mouse is connected to PS/2, but it is
not. So, where to change it?

Debian, of course!

There are several tools for doing this or you can look at /etc/gpm.conf
There is no file with this name.
