All this is OK, but if your windows machines ask for a password and you
press cancel, then you don't have network, so you must disable login in
your windows machines.

But I not sure, if it's not the problen tell me and tomorrow I will
send you my samba config file for that, the problem it that the file is
at office.

If it's a binary program you only have to set the "S" bit on the
permision of the file. If not, May be it works or not depends on the

PostScript Printing Problem

2001-01-01 Thread Angel
Hello!!

I have a HP DeskJet printer, and of course I habe the magicfilter
instaled, so it works perfectly whit Debian. The problen is that I want
to share it with some windows PC, I have the Samba instaled.

If I export the printer and use the HP driver on the Windos PCs and
print transparently, it works. But I want to use the printer as a
postscript one, I mean using a postscript driver on windows (Apple or
similar) but then the printer works but prints an extra page with PS
rubber Any idea about where to look for an example??

Of course the audio CDs ar not iso9660, they are raw disks, you
only have tracks, normaly one for each song. if you want to listen use a
program to do it, as xmcd for example. If you want to copy a song as
.wav use cdparanoia or similar program ...

What did you want to do with the audio cd??

Linux, can't mount a sound cd, you don't need to mout to use it, linux
use the cd as a raw media.

If you want to read a track on a wav use cdparanoia

First you must check that minicom has died, take a look whit "ps x", if
not kill it. Then if the /dev/ttyS0 keeps locked you can delete

If you want to use a IDE cd-w or CD-wr you need to "detect" it as SCSI,
and if you detect it as IDE id dosen't work properly. To do this you
need to add something like append="hdb=ide-scsi" to your lilo config
file. Or as I have do, recompile your kernel whithout IDE-CD suport, and
with IDE-SCSI emulation.

G5 Xserver or Sun Blade 1500

2004-01-29 Thread Angel
I am a newbee in the workstation /server world.
I am going to buy hardware to do biological modelling involving data
input/output, R programming (an statistical language) and a few graphics
visualization (some GIS).
I would prefer to run debian on whatever I buy.
I have some :)) money for this project (ca.4500 euros) and I am unable to
decide myself what would be the best solution: an apple Xserver dual G5 2GHz
or an Sun Blade 1500 Worksation.
Both are the same price but. Here are the specs of each:

Sun Blade 1500 Workstation
1 1-GHz UltraSPARC IIIi Processor
1-MB On-Chip L2 Cache
Sun XVR-600 Graphics Accelerator
1-GB Memory
1 80-GB 7200 RPM IDE Disk Drive
1 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet Port
7 USB Ports
2 IEEE 1394 Ports
2 Serial Ports
1 Parallel Port
5 PCI Slots
16x DVD-ROM Drive
Smart Card Reader
Solaris 8 HW 5/03 Operating System Pre-Installed

Xserver G5
Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5
 1GB DDR400 ECC SDRAM - 2x512
 80GB ADM (1x80GB Serial ATA)
 CD-ROM
Mac OS X Server, Unlimited License

Which are the cons and pros of each setup?
As far as I understand the Xserver would be more easy to upgrade and better
for databases and the blade system more powerful, particularly for the
graphics (which are not the main difficulty of my project). Is this correct
or does the higher Hz of the Dual G5 mean it is much faster than the
UlraSparc
Thanks,
Angel

2013-05-09 Thread State Angel
fdisk also gives some disk id.

You can also use boot script like this to static numerize your drives:

rm /dev/myhdd-0 /dev/myhdd-1
m=`cat /sys/block/sda/device/model`
if test "$m" = "HDD0MODEL"; then
    ln -s sda /dev/myhdd-0
    ln -s sdb /dev/myhdd-1
else
    ln -s sdb /dev/myhdd-0
    ln -s sda /dev/myhdd-1
fi

Then enter /dev/myhdd-0 /dev/myhdd-1 in your fstab.

Apache Installation

1996-12-20 Thread Angel Leyva
Has anyone else noticed that during the installation of apache ,if you
change the default directories for the document root and/or the
cgi-bin directory, this is not reflected in the srm.conf file. You
have to go into that file, and manually update those paths.

While I have your attention, how does one restart the server once
these changes are made?

DNS Request

1996-12-21 Thread Angel Leyva
I am trying to set up DNS on a local network at home and things are
not going too smoothly. I wonder if some one is willing to correspond
with me via e-mail so that I can get this thing running. I have been
reading the HOWTO pages and although it seems to be well written, I
believe it assumes the reader has some konwledge of DNS.

I want a simple DNS to run on a two node network at home, A win95
machine, and the linux machine.

I have installed DNS, and I can get nslookup to run, but since it is
not on the internet, I don't get the output that is in the HOWTO
documentation.

I can restart DNS, and can ping all the entries in my /etc/hosts file,
if this is relavent.

USB network adapter with no connectivity

2021-09-28 Thread Angel Rengifo Cancino
Hello guys:

I'm running Proxmox 7 which is based on Debian Bullseye (11). I connected a
TP-Link USB 3.0 network adapter on USB 2.0 ports of a IBM System x3550 M4
server.

According to what ethtool reports, there's Link detection on this network
adapter. However, I cannot make it work with a valid IP address. I set a
fixed private IP address and try to ping another host in the same network
(same ethernet switch) and there's no response.

When running tcpdump on the USB network interface, I only see a few ARP
packets trying to find the MAC address for the destination host.

Any ideas? Is this USB 3.0 adapter supposed to work when connected to a USB
2.0 port? I'd really appreciate some suggestions for troubleshooting.

Thanks in advance guys

Instead of directly install java from sun's binary, use the
java-package tool to create a deb from this binary, then install the deb
file. I'm not sure, but I think this same you get the alternatives

I think that eudora uses mbox files for the mail folders. All that you
have to do in evolution is to import that files, one by one. A little
tedious, but easy.

If you also want to import addressbook, you have to export it in eudora
to something understable (csv or ldif for example) and then import it
into evolution.

I have also found this (with an apt-cache search eudora):

2vcard - A little perl script to convert an adressbook to VCARD file
format

Maybe it helps.

Why it hast to be a problem? Finally, you have an encrypted message, so
what is the problem?

If ssh encrypts first and then compresses, you can uncompress the
message, but then all you've got is an encrypted message. By other side,
if ssh compresses first and then encrypts, you can't even uncompress the
message because you have to decrypt it previously.

For the linux boxes maybe you could try the metric parameter for the
route add command. In this way you could define two default servers with
different metrics. If the first doesn't work I guess it should try with
the second. I haven't tried this, but it's a line to investigate it.

For the windows computers, I have no idea :-(

This is not true. I don't qemu well, but I think it could use a real
filesystem. And I am sure that xen can use it. It could you the
filesystem type you want (a file, a real filesystem in a partition, a
filesystem in a logical volumen, an iscsi disk, etc.). All you need is
that your kernel support it.

There is a real very interesting use: the use of virtualization to
consolidate servers. One of the problems of organizations is the number
of infraused (is this the english word?) servers. With virtualization
you can use one physical servers to deploy several virtual servers (one
server as email server, another for web, another...). For this kind of
use, xen is a good solution. Another (non-free) solution could be vmware
esx. qemu is not a solution. In fact, there are service providers that
offers virtual servers for renting.

problems with gnome

2002-04-12 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Hello,

I used redhat 7.2 with ximian gnome until this week that I have
installed debian instead of redhat. I installed potato and then I
upgraded to woody.

To install ximian gnome I add
deb http://red-carpet.ximian.com/debian stable main to the sources.list
file and then I run "apt-get update; apt-get install task-ximian-gnome"
(as I found in ximian website). The problem is that there is gnome
software not running in my system.

gnome-terminal doesn't work, when I try to run it, I get:
# gnome-terminal
gnome-terminal: relocation error: gnome-terminal: undefined symbol:
zvt_term_set_meta_use_high_bit
#

other program that doesn't work is red-carpet. When I run it I get a
dialog error window with a button to make a bug report.

Does anybody know where is the problem?

Gestor de claves linux/windows

2008-11-25 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Hola,

¿Alguna sugerencia?

Re: Gestor de claves linux/windows

2008-11-25 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Sorry for posting in spanish. I thought I was writting to the spanish
list :-(

The question is that I need a password manager that runs on linux and
windows.

Now, we are using mypasswordsafe (I don't know the specific program
runned in windows by my partners). To share the password database, we
use subversion.

The problem we have is that the file generated by mypasswordsafe is in
binary mode, so we have problems with subversion: sometimes the file is
modified by two of us and this generates conflicts in subversion
(because it can't merge them) that we have to solve manually.

So, I'm looking for a password manager (compatible with linux and
windows) that stores the database in a text file (of course, with the
password crypted) or, at least, that generates a file per password
entry.

Any suggestion?

it loads serial driver, I get a lot of garbage and console doesn't work
until login (that is, I can't see messages displays by init.d scripts).
When login is run, it works again without any problem.

The garbage I get is:

[2.982482] Serial: 8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 4 ports, IRQ
sharingd
[2.991704] serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a NS16550A
[2.998232] serial8250: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 felis116 ttyS0

felis116 login:

Then, I can't see anything until login is reached.

The cyclades configuration for this port is (I configured it as a
Console (Telnet) port):

s26.tty ttyS26
s26.alias felis116
s26.issue \r\n Welcome to Console Server Management Server %h port S
%p \n\r\n
s26.speed 115200
s26.datasize 8
s26.stopbits 1
s26.parity none
s26.flow none
s26.dcd 0

any idea?

Duda entre LVM y CLVM

2010-02-10 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Hola,

¿o puedo utilizar LVM?

This list is for English. Repost in English or post in the original
language to the appropriate list (debian-user-spanish,
debian-user-portuguese, etc.)

Sorry, I guessed I was writting to the spanish list :-(. The
translation:

I am planning to deploy a virtualization server farm. I'm going to
deploy several virtual machine servers (xen). The VM are going to be
storaged in a shared storage (iscsi) with LVM volumes, all of them in
the same VG.

In a specific point of time, each VM will be running in just one xen
server, so its LVM will be used in just one server.

With this scheme, do I need cLVM? or can I use LVM?

Hello...

I do this lastweek:

Mount new partition
mount -t ext2 /dev/hdd2 /mnt

List a directory
find /bin -depth > file.bin

Copy
cpio -p -v -d -u /mnt < file.bin

Doing find / -depth > file and cpio -p -v -d -u /mnt < file seems not work at
all: I get file /mnt/bin/bash : data.

Sorry for the bad english.

If you only have one IP address, and you want to give full access. You
only need to read the "IP-masquerade" in the /usr/HOWTO/mini.

I installed debian woody 3.0 in an ibm xserver 335, but I had to use a
personalized installation CD with the RAID and ethernet drivers
included. Last week I reinstalled debian in that computer, but debian
sarge (from the official CD) and I had no problem with the installation.

Can you bind to the ldap directory using that user?

I think that userPassword has to be able to be read by the user (every
user could read his password) to login.

Re: [PATCH] restoring tg3 driver to latest 2.6.5 source

2004-04-22 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Hello,

Thank you for distributing this patch. I have some IBM xSeries servers that
also has a network card that uses the tg3 module (I don't know if it's the same
card or not). I have them with a customized 2.6.3 kernel. This week I have
tried to update to 2.6.5 in debian way, that is, make a deb from kernel-source
package, but I couldn't.

But I'm lost with the problem. I haven't followed any thread that could the
origin of this problem. Can anybody clarify what the problem is?

Yes, you are right. I meant that I have woody (stable) with kde 3.1,
installed (.deb) from kde. And the evolution I tried I think it was the
evolution from woody.

MySQL over NFS

2003-03-06 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Hi,

I've got to install a MySQL server with a hihg availabity
configuration: one MySQL server running and the other in standby. I was
thinking about using a NAS serving NFS partitions. But I have read
documents about database servers (like oracle and others) not running
well over NFS filesystems (because they use raw files).

Do you know if there is any problem to run MySQL over a NFS filesystem?
Or do you know any other way to configure MySQL with high availabiliy?

Or course, running MySQL in debian servers (woody).

No se, solo como idea... ¿lo ejecutas en un entorno chroot? Si es así,
comprueba que el grupo postdrop también lo tienes en el chroot.

Re: NFS share: cannot write

2003-09-15 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Unless you configure the share to mount it as root, when you mount a
nfs share, you use nobody, so if nobody can't write to the directory,
you can't write.

evolution doesn't ever run them.
I have a similar behaviour. Although evolution filter some messages,
others not.

But, check that you have selected the option to filter messages in your
IMAP inbox folder. At this moment, I don't have access to my computer,
but I think it is under the receive options of your mail account's

tool to monitor a hardware raid

2004-03-02 Thread Angel L. Mateo
Hello,

I have installed woody in an IBM xSeries 335 server with a RAID
controller. I have two disks configured as a mirror. Now I'm looking for
a tool to monitor the mirror status (not the BIOS utility that the
server has) from a command line interface. Another (not indispensable)
feature would be to monitor it with SNMP.

Any idea?

I think you are wrong. I have postfix + sasl in a Solaris server (not
chrooted) and I use CRAM-MD5 to authenticate via saslauthd.

I dit it compiling all the software (postfix and sasl) from the source
(postfix 1.1.11 and sasl 1.5.28, I think). I configure postfix to do
authentication via saslauthd (in the smtpd.conf file). Then, the only I
have to do is to run saslauthd before run postfix. I didn't need to
configure anything more. With this configuration, I can authenticate
with PLAIN, CRAM-MD5 and any other authentication mechanism that SASL
supports (saslauthd is running as root).
