back and had a few problems with email sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,
i'm not sure if this is the right place to go for help, but i couldn't
find any other. I ordered a copy of tri-linux from Linux Systems Labs a
few weeks ago, and i didn't get a conformation message, and every time i
send them an email asking about my order, i don't get a reply. I was
just wondering if it's me, if they're really busy, or if they're a
reliable place to purchase linux (i entered my credit card number into
their order form which is unsecure)

we have both secure and unsecure forms on our site because some
customers are unable to use SSL.

Please reply, i'm a bit curious,
thanks!
Alan W

Re: April Infomagic LDR Debian

1997-06-06 Thread Dan Irvin
How long would it have taken an experienced Linux user to do a quick
install of three different distributions just to make sure something
major wasn't missing? Maybe a day at most?

W install all three distributions on our TRI-LINUX cd on two different
boxes ...
one that is all IDE and one that has a NCR SCSI and a AHA 1542. It takes
about 3 hours when two of us are working on it. We then create a gold,
verify
it bit for bit, and test the install one more time. Before we ship a
silver
CD we do a bit for bit test again and usually install one of the three
distributions.

The Debian 1.3 install is much improved from previous versions. It
autodetected the
subdirectory where I put the startup stuff and required only a single boot
floppy. A far cry from the 6 floppies needed in previous versions. I think
the quality and ease of the basic installation is now second to none.

LSL (www.lsl.com) has their Tri-Linux CD (Debian 1.3, Slackware 3.2
and Red Hat 4.2) for $2.98. I installed 1.2.5 from the previous version
and found it to be pretty complete (stable and contrib, but not
non-free).
You probably can't beat the price.

We just started shipping this today ( 6-5-97) its a binary only version.
We
Plan on doing the Oficial Debian 1.3 when the iso images are released.

We also have the best prices Red Hat, Slackware and Linux Related Books
and CDs..see www.lsl.com

 Why is that?

 BTW. Is there a 1.2.5,

Yes!

Our Current Tri Linux CD contains Deb 1.2.5 with the contrib. directory.
This is a
binary only release. so we were able to fit the full binary distributions
of
Red Hat 4.1 and slackware 3.1 on the CD as well. We started shipping
last week, see http://www.lsl.com. We plan on updating this CD monthly
and hope
that we can incorporate a single floppy or no floppy install in the next
few iterations.

What software does Cheapbytes and these other CD authoring firms use
under Linux to cut a CD?
[EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We use mkisofs and cdwrite with a yamaha 102 (about $600). Once you
make the iso image you can mount it up using -loop and give it a try before
you use cdwrite. Also you direct the output of mkisofs to a partition and
mount
this up without using -loop ( this is useful for testing out distributions
like debian
before we burn the CD)

mkisofs -o /mnt/deb.iso -R -P lsl /mnt/distributions/debian

cdwrite -s 2 -D /dev/sgc --yamaha /mnt/deb.iso

If you don't have a CDROM burner but do have a 4mm or 8mm tape you can
direct the output to the tape and send this off to the CDROM plant ... We
did this
for our first 5 or 10 CDs back when the burners were ~ $4000.
