That should not be an isue ... you can write a script that autoloads a
lynx version automaticly if you can't handle frames I may be wrong
about this but I realy think I've seen this somewhere before

Oh, boy ... thats realy early on ... I think the messages you are talking
about is where the system is callabrating the delay loop to calculate the
bogo mips ... you might try to disable it somehow ... I've also had luck
with removeing the 0setserial file that comes with the base disks ... try
both of these ... although you might need access to a linux box to do it
...

Hardware question.

1998-03-23 Thread Ender Wigin
Hi,

I am looking at a new computer for my parrents to get me for college... I
looked at the hardware howto but somethings arn't listed so heres
what I am looking at getting.

Tiger K6233 customize it yourself kit.
it contains:

a ATX motherboard with the VIA 590vp2 chipset... can anyone tell me if
this will work with debian? ... it says it suports UDMA which AFAIK in not
suported by linux ... the motherboard uses a award bios... does anyone out
there have one of these mobo's... can I turn of UDMA?

a Generic S3 Virge video card ... will most of these work?

will a udma hard drive work in ide mode ...

the other hard drive I am looking at uses the interface mode called
"EIDE mode 4" what is this and will it work?

-Thanks.

Actualy look on the microsoft web site they have some and links to some
that are actuly public domain, Microsoft says there for web pages and so
forth but they work great with gimp (Not shure you would want to
package Microcrap stuff but oh well.

Look in the freetype packages ... one of them has a utility to convert

Which one where you going to package ... I use mlupd which I would be more
than willing to package+maintain ... Just as soon as my application for
becoming a maintainer goes though.

ps: I need to check the mlupd copyright file ... it may be non-freeish...

This is one of those UDMA cards ... that are not suported AFAIK by the
linux kernel team ... However I belive you will find that you can use the
Hard drive in EIDE mode by conecting it to your motherboard directly and
removing the "Ultra ATA" card ... (IIRC you need to tell the bios that you
want to use the on-board controler... )

Script idea...

1998-01-29 Thread Ender Wigin
Hi,

I just (couple of weeks realy) upgraded to Hamm.
After the upgrade I was left with a bunch of apps that core dumped ...(IE:
ncftp) before I upgraded them to the libc6 version... So today in math
class I thought up a neat script idea that could help others in my
plight... (note extenuating curcumstances in my case) Basicly my idea is
to run "ldd * | grep 'libc.so.5' | tail libc5apps" on the bin directorys
...now for the questions. one: I realy think that there is probaly a
better way to do this ... (Ideas?) Two: I would like to somehow link this
to the Contents file so that indivigual executibles are not listed as
things to upgrade, but the packages ... IE step one get list of lib5 apps,
two grep aginst contents to get a package name providing that app. only I
don't know how to do step 2 execpt manualy ... any ideas here ... I figure
one of you perl gurus would know how to do this ... ?

-TIA

Yeah Buy the new drive, whatever size you can find, Install the new hard
drive slaved to the old drive ... in the bios do not tell it that it has a
newer hard drive in it ... use the old drive for swap and put lilo on it
... so the boot drive is the 128 and the root drive in on the new biger
drive.

this is basicly what I have done... it works ...

Fetchmail and Procmail. (Fixed pine)

1998-01-09 Thread Ender Wigin
Hi,

BTW I fixed Pine to all those who might have the Mailbox Lock problem the
solution is to "su -c chmod 1777 /tmp"

Now for the problem ... I have procmail installed and I configured it with
the .forward file as the mail-filtering FAQ sugjested ... to no avail ...
I was wondering if some nice person who has Fetchmail getting the mail and
Procmail sorting it could please explain how they did it ... and share
what is in there .forward file ...(It seems to me that procmail never runs
... IE: I never see it in a top srceen ...) ...

TIA
-Kevin.
