Please help me find a good Debian compatible video card

2020-04-25 Thread Jiangsu Kumquat
I want to get a good fast Debian compatible card for 1080p.

I was looking at this page...

Best Graphics Cards 2020 - Top Gaming GPUs for the Money | Tom's Hardware
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gpus,4380.html

However, I think most or all of those cards won't work that great for Linux
because of compatibility issues.

Can you recommend a good card for me to use? I play windows games in Debian
with wine.

I tend to prefer AMD cards, but Nvidia cards are okay I guess as long as
they work well with Debian.

Thanks!!

More secure, more flexible, and completely free video conferencing. Go

Jitsi Meet is a fully encrypted, 100% open source video conferencing
solution that you can use all day, every day, for free — with no account

I should clarify... I need a program like Brasero to take a 4K video, such
as an .mp4 file, and burn it onto a Blu-ray disc so that it will play on
any Blu-ray player.

The software you mentioned says: "Note that xorriso does not write audio

I did a search... and found this...

Blu-ray discs

2019-08-29 Thread Jiangsu Kumquat
(Please respond directly to my email address)

I was wondering if there is any way to create a Blu-ray disc from within
Debian? I have a 1080p video camera and the only tool that I have found to
make a disc that will play in a Blu-ray player is Brasero. However, that
will only create a DVD disc and there is a tremendous loss in audio and
video quality when using that tool to make a disc.

I browsed through the archive at deb-multimedia.org
 but the only
thing that I found was for Blu-ray disc playback support.

Cinelerra
 will
edit HD video, but I have not discovered a way to use that to create a
blu-ray disc.

I would even consider using a Windows software under Wine to make it work
if I could maybe do that.

Re: Need help with Play on Linux

2019-01-25 Thread Jiangsu Kumquat
Here's some stats about the computer I'm running Play on Linux with:

OS: stretch 64bit
CPU: Intel® Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz × 2
RAM: 2.0 GiB
Graphics: Intel® 945G (built-in video on the motherboard)
I think I have located the driver for this video card but I'm not sure how
to install it. I tried to install it as a regular program, but the setup
program says that my computer does not meet the requirements to install it.

How do you install drivers into Play on Linux?

https://www.driverscape.com/manufacturers/intel/laptops-desktops/945g/917

I just added i386 to dpkg and installed wine32. This seemed to resolve a
lot of problems.

I successfully got the installer for a windows app to run. However it did
not install correctly...
I'm trying to install Spotify client.

I installed "mono-complete" and "mono-complete:i386" but the installer
still could not find mono.
So I had the play on Linux installer install mono.

*It complained that I do not have "wine-gecko" installed. *I cannot seem to
resolve this.

Spotify says that it could not find WINHTTP.dll and won't run.

However, I did successfully manually install and run this software with
default wine... although it doesn't require a lot of stuff to run. (It will
run in DOS apparently) It's an audio spectrum analyzer.

https://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Other-AUDIO-Tools/Audio-SpectrumView.shtml

Also, on the play on Linux main window, the capture plugin gives me this
error:

01/25/19 09:03:52 - [main] Fatal: Please install alsa-base

However, alsa-base is not available in stretch.

The attached log file is for Spotify. It doesn't say it in the file, but I
am getting an error message that it cannot find WINHTTP.dll.

Need help with Play on Linux

2019-01-25 Thread Jiangsu Kumquat
Please email me directly as I might not see your reply in the mailing list.

I installed "Play on Linux" and attempted to run a program under it. You
can download it here:

https://www.playonlinux.com/

I am trying to completely rid myself of using Windows. The only thing that
I really need Windows for is to play games made for Windows. So, if I can
get this to work, I'll put Microsoft in the waste bin!

No matter what I do, it tells me that Wine has crashed. When I try to
install a program either manually or a supported software, it tells me that
Wine has crashed and I never see the Windows installer box.

I have tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions of wine and they both crash.
(I installed wind with APT and also installed wine from inside plays on
linux.)

Here is an error I get when I first execute the program:

PlayOnLinux is unable to find 32bits OpenGL libraries.
You might encounter problem with your games

>From here on out I always seem to get this error no matter what I do...

Error in POL_Wine
Wine seems to have crashed

And this is as far I can get.

Need help getting Cinelerra to run

Please email me directly with your reply as I probably will not see your
reply in the mailing list.

Cinelerra is a fantastic non-linear video editor for Linux. Unfortunately I
am unable to get it running under Debian. I'm using stable with latest
updates. (This software has been out for a years. Why is it not part of
Debian?)

You can download both the source code and the binary here:

https://cinelerra.org/download

I have tried to get both to run and have no luck with either of them. It
worked last time I used it with Ubuntu. (which was a while ago)

*When I try to run the binary, I get this error:*

./cinelerra: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot

I noticed that libpng16 is installed on my system, but apparently it
doesn't want that.

*When I try to compile the source, I get this error:*

First I had to compile zlib and libpng16 because ./configure was
complaining then after I made it through ./configure, I did 'make' and it
compiled for quite a while and then I got this error... this is the last
bit of output from the 'make' command.

I'm not sure how to get past these errors... I don't know what to do now.
There used to be a repository that I could link to in "sources.list" but
that site seems to no longer exist. This is how I installed it into Ubuntu
when I used Cinelerra before.

How do you disable / enable services from starting in systemd?

I have gotten very used to the old way of how to start/stop services when
booting using runlevels but I cannot figure out how to do any of this using
systemd.

So, I don't always use my web and SQL servers so I don't want it
auto-starting at boot but I don't know how to turn it off.

Thanks for reading this.

Thanks a bunch! I have had this problem for quite a while and never could
figure out how to fix it.

root@localhost mail not forwarding in Exim

2017-03-01 Thread Jiangsu Kumquat
I changed my server name and fqdn and now the mail to root@localhost is
bouncing.

I went into every file that had the old name and changed it to the new name
but it still doesn't work. I did "grep -r something.else /etc" to find all
the files.

so, if I want to use mail.example.com as my fqdn, and the old fqdn was
something.else and r...@something.else was redirecting mail to
m...@something.else ... then what do I need to change in Exim to make this
happen?

root@localhost is bouncing
r...@mail.example.com is bouncing
m...@mail.example.com is working

/etc/mailname is this line:
mail.example.com

I would also like to be able to send mail to me@mail instead of
m...@mail.example.com ... if this is possible.

I did "grep -r something.else /etc" and changed all the files to the
mail.example.com name and then ran the "update-exim4.conf"

if you reply, please CC me directly because it is hard to find messages in
this list because of the high volume.

Thanks
