IP forwarding
I have set up a Linux host with two ethernet cards. IP forwarding is enabled in the kernel and it is in its default state (accept and forward everything). Both ethernet segments, eth0 and eth1 are alive. 1. From the Linux machine I can ping hosts on both subnets an vice-versa. 2. From the LAN that sits on eth1, I can ping the near port(eth1) on the Linux machine but not the other port (eth0). 3. From the LAN that sits on eth0, I can ping both ports on the Linux machine but I can not reach any hosts on the eth1 side. When I get IP forwarding working correctly, I will start selecting the firewall policies. Does anybody have a solution? Re: ipfwadm after kernel recompiling
I have looked at my /proc/net directory. There are no ip_* files. What should I do. Note: After recompiling kernel I have noticed following: Setup is 4384 bytes System is 638kB System is too big Man[1]: ***[zImage] Error 1 Everything but ipforwarding and firewalling work just fine. Thanks, Drazen -- From: Jim Pick To: Lalovic, Drazen Cc: debian Subject: Re: ipfwadm Date: Wednesday, July 02, 1997 9:05PM I have recompiled 2.0.29 Kernel to enable IP forwarding and firewalling. You can check to see if they are compiled into the kernel you are currently running by looking at your /proc/net directory. Here's what I've got in my /proc/net directory on a system with IP forwarding, firewalling, accounting, and masquerading... boots:/proc/net# ls alias_typesip_acctip_masq_approute tcp aliasesip_autofw ip_masquerade rt_cache udp arpip_forward ip_output snmp unix devip_input rawsockstat Of course, there might be something else going on... Second Ethernet Card
I have recompiled the kernel to support IP forwarding. One of two 3C509 Cards that I have on my machine works. What is required to get my second Ethernet Card working? I have tried to add the append=ether=11,0x320.eth1 statement to lilo.conf but it doesn't make it work. Any ideas? Two Ethernet Cards
Kernel make config
I have just installed debian 1.3 and downloaded some packages from the ftp site. Since I want to use it as a firewall I have to recompile kernel to enable IP forwarding. How can I do it? CRC Error
I am trying to install Debian 1.3.0 on my machine. It is 100MHZ Pentium with 32K of RAM, 2GB hard drive, Pioneer SCSI CD ROM, and two Ethernet Cards; 3Com 509 and 3Com 590. Hopefully I will be able to put firewall on it. The very first problem was my RESCUE disc. It can not be read and BIOS reports CRC error. Once in a while my computer reads it, but at the end of installation process when trying to reboot either from floppy or from the hard drive it reports CRC error again. I have tried several different floppy disks from different manufacturers and two different computers to do download with no success.. Note. I was able to install older version of debian but always with some problems, either with Ethernet cards or with SCSI CD ROM. Does anybody know how to fix this problem.
