RE: sblive 'n debian

1999-08-12 Thread Omniflux
I had no problem getting this card to run under Debian slink (kernel
2.0.36) or Debian potato (kernel 2.2.10). the install script doesn't
work, but following the included directions was pretty
simpleAlso...I had success with both the old driver (sblive.o) and
the new one (emu10k1.o). I don't know how it compares to other cards,
except that in Win98, midis sound a whole lot better...haven't tried any
in linux, yet =:-]

Subject: sblive 'n debian

is there anyone out there who has gotten this card to run under debian?
I'm currently running rh 6.0 for no other reason than because the
install script for the sblive actually works for redhat. I had debian
up and running for a while, but I couldn't get sound going and I got
tired of havin 600 megs of mp3s (not to mention games) that wouldn't
work (properly).
someone told me that I had to flash the card or something, maybe run
setserial or what not to get the card working properlly.
_ANY_ help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

apt question

1999-06-19 Thread Omniflux
I'd like apt to look at my cd's before looking at the rest of the sites in
my sorces.list, but while I can get it to look at one cd, I can't get it to
look at the second (Official Debian CD's) If I use symlinks to repoint the
Packages file to Packages.cd on the second CD, it will find the packages
locally, but when I try to install, if they are on the first disk, it can't
find them and errors out...is there a way to get it to ask to switch cd's
like the multicd access method does? a patch perhaps?

WinNT boot code

1999-06-11 Thread Omniflux
A couple days ago I was installing Debian 2.1 and came across something that
might cause people problems...My first partition is NTFS, and I'm running NT
4. When I was creating my / partition during the Debian install, I had the
option to flag it active, so not thinking, I did. Upon rebooting, I got
Invalid Partition Table Turns out, the WinNT boot code halts if you have
more then one partition marked active, which I now had. Unmarking the
partition solved the problem. I was just thinking it might be nice to put
in a check for Microsoft boot code and warn you about that when you try to
mark a second partition active, at least during the initial installation.
If this is already documented...sorry, but I didn't see it =:-]
