gcc-10: options order important?
Hi,
in contrary to previous versions, now in Debian 11 with gcc-10:
gcc aa.c -lm -o aa works, but
gcc -lm aa.c -o aa does not work, saying:
/usr/bin/ld: /tmp/ccWyhudO.o: in function `main':
aa.c:(.text+0x1f): undefined reference to `sqrt'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

It seems that an option -lm cannot be placed in an arbitrary place which I used

do. Is this intentional ?

Hi, I have similar problem on Dell Inspiron 3580 Both after upgrade from Buster to Bullseye and after clean install on a seprate partition laptop does not wake up (in fact it sometimes does) but completely freezes, only power off can help. When I booted Bullseye with the previous kernel (4.19) it works OK. Accessing SSH server over VPN
I have hardware router which allows to configure VPN. I managed to set it up on my laptop (debian Stretch) in the NetworkManager applet. So now I can connect from office to outside word using my home router as a proxy (when I check my IP it shows the IP of my router). I can also connect to one linux desktop machine (debian Jessie), however not by VPN, but this is not an issue. The issue is that when I connect to my desktop I would like to ssh back to my laptop using VPN channel, so I could open the result in the local X server. The problem is that I cannot even ssh to my laptop when I try to use laptop VPN IP. What would I have to check/try in order to resolve the issue? Kind regards, Piotr

Now I would like to redirect all traffic to VPN (whenever VPN is available) and revert back to current state (if VPN is not available). The only problem is that I do not know how to do this. Mouse with extra buttons. How to configure them?
Dear all, I got new mouse which has some extra buttons, but in standard Xfce4 settings there is no way to configure some functions for them. Is there a software to do this? Can it be done in some configuration files? The extra buttons are: back, forward, DPI. Also how to change what clicking the wheel should do? Regards, Piotr

Dear all, After upgrading to Stretch I have problem with the brightness of my LCD screen in laptop. After a reboot of the system I get 100% brightness, even if I set it up to like 50%. Where can I change this so the settings are preserved between the reboots? Regards, Piotr

Hibernation does not work after upgrade to Stretch
Dear all, Recently I upgraded my Jessie to Stretch and since then I do not have working hibernation. When I do hibernate-disk, then it seems to be making a memory snapshot, but when I restart I gets a hang up with a black screen or reboot (depends on which kernel version I use). Already tried with 4.16.0-0.bpo.2-686-pae, 4.16.0-0.bpo.1-686-pae and with linux-image-3.16.0-5-686-pae. How should I debug this issue and fix it? Regards, Piotr
Hibernation is not working after upgrading frmo Jessie to Stretch.
Dear all, Recently I upgraded my Debian Jessie to Stretch and I noticed that hibernation does not work anymore. When I try to hibernate to disk the process of saving the current memory state seems to be doing the job correctly. However, when I start the laptop I see that restoring the state begins, but in the middle laptop reboots and starts normal booting instead of restoring after hibernation. Upgrade from Jessie to Stretch: Bluetooth mouse is not working.
Dear all, Recently I upgraded from Jessie to Stretch in order to be able to install new package versions. The upgrade seems to be successful (I did not have any errors in the process), but I noticed that the Blue tooth mouse is not working (it was working fine in Jessie). I am using USB dongle for blue-tooth connections. I can pair the mouse and connect to it. However moving a mouse and/or clicking has no effect (cursor stays where it was, clicks are not recognized). I would include more info (output from some commands, logs), however I am not sure what is relevant, so I would need some guidance in this. Wheezy NFSv4 callback reply buffer overflowed
Hi, I've recently found on one of my servers, that kernel keeps complaining: NFSv4 callback reply buffer overflowed On the client side, system is: Wheezy 7.8 Kernel: SMP Debian 3.2.65-1+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux nfs-common 1:1.2.6-4 Device working as NFS server is NetApp FAS3250. Problem started just few days ago. Except for that annoying message, nfs storage seems to be working fine. I tired finding solution on-line but without any luck, I'd appreciate any help. At first, hello everyone - I subscribed yesterday. You know, every time since the beginning of my adventure with linux (about 1998) I get this message try man *. it's pointless you know? Every man who is familiar with linux is aware that there is something like manpages there. When someone ask for a tip then he is awaiting for a tip and not sentence which means in simply words - You're stupid, and you've got lice on your navel. In other words. I would like to read something simplified first, see some effects which can make me a _hero_ in my own eyes and _then_ go deeper (man pages in this case). Sorry, but manpages are long, complicated and discouraging for newbies. It's definitely better to recommend some simple web guide first. What develops curiosity in linux word is success IMO. Anyway.. Check manpage is like check google. When we're looking for answer, we can find only thousands of check google answers in google. That's the effect. No offence. Najlepiej wykonaj to na wszystkich swoich dyskach, bo nie wiadomo co tam masz. Później pokaż mi wyniki dysku raz jeszcze, zobaczymy, co powinieneś dalej z tym fantem zrobić. Dysk nie jest idealny, prawda, ale póki nie zaznaczysz na nim błędnych sektorów, aby były wyłączone z użytku, to ten dysk może się zacinać i spowalniać resztę komponentów. Witam, Miałem wirtualną maszynę z Debianem postawioną na VMWare ESX, zmuszony byłem ją przenieść na inny serwer VMware z powodu braku miejsca. Po przeniesieniu maszyny na drugi serwer VMWare ESXi uruchomieniu okazało się, że zniknęła mi karta sieciowa z systemu Debian. Komenda ifconfig wypisuje tylko loopback. Komenda lspci wyświetla spis urządzeń, wśród których widnieje sieciówka, ale w systemie jej nie widzę. Co mogło się stać i jak to można naprawić ? Pozdrawiam -- Piotr
Debian plus VMware
Witam, Mam serwer na którym postawiono jakiś czas temu serwer VMware vSphere 4 Essentials (zawiera w sobie ESX i ESXi). Na tym postawiono kilka maszyn między innymi mojego Debiana z 4GB Ramu. Potem powstały kolejne maszyny na tym. Wszystko działało ok. do momentu aż trzeba było do mojego Debiana dołożyć 4GB RAM. Zatrzymałem więc system, administrator dołożył skonfigurował w VMWare dodatkowe 4GB RAM czyli teraz mam 8GB. Uruchomiłem maszynę, oczywiście zobaczyła tylko 4GB RAM ze względu na wersje jądra, zainstalowałem więc apt-get wersję kernela BIGMEM i myślałem że sprawa załatwiona. Okazało się jednak, że po dołożeniu tego RAM czas dostępu do dysku na tej wirtualnej maszynie z moim Debianem jest katastrofalny. Pliki kopiuje mi z prędkością około 2-5MB/sek. Myślałem że coś się podziało po zmianie kernela więc ustawiłem żeby wstało na poprzedniej wersji jądra w /boot/grub/menu.list i zrobiłem restart systemu. Chciałbym, aby poczta była ściągana na serwerek, i np za pomocą roundcup'a ludzie mieli do niej dostęp. Witam serdecznie! Czy ktoś z Was instalował debiana na kontrolerze RAID HP NETRAID-1Si?. Otóż problem jest taki, że podczas instalacji debian wogóle nie widzi dysków podłączonych do tego kontrolera. Próbowałem juz wgrywać podczas instalacji inne stery z dyskietki i nic... . Z tego co wygooglowałem, to w użygiu powinny być sterowniki i2o i megaraid. Tak więc Ty jako końcowy user nie uczestniczysz w BGP. Możesz sobie ustawiasz co chcesz ale to nie będzie działać. Albo będzie działać tylko u Ciebie ale nie w Internecie. Jakbyś chciał mieć swoje IP to zgłaszasz się do Ripe, otrzymujesz ASa, otrzymujesz swoje adresy IP. Potem wykupujesz łącze np. od TP z usługą tzw Global Access. Podajesz w umowie numer swojego ASa. Na ruterze na którym terminujesz to łącze zestawiasz sesje BGP do TP. Rozgłaszasz w BGP IPki które dostałeś z RIPE i wtedy to działa. To najprostszy przykład. Scenariuszy podłączeń jest wiele. Tu podałem, że wykupujesz łącze. Ale załóżmy, że Ty jesteś właścicielem dżej sieci i to od Ciebie będą kupować łącze... Thx Jeszcze jedno, jak są połączone końcowe routery ISP??? Wiem że są połączone z routerami innych ISP. Ale w jaki sposób do portu WAN i na drugim routerze do portu LAN??? I wtedy pierwszy ISP ma kilka ipków z różnych sieci??? Na poziomie ISP zaciera się coś takiego jak port LAN i WAN. Poza tym stosowane są różne technologie łączenia ISP. To jest temat rzeka. Żeby zrozumieć jak działa Internet trzeba poznać protokoły rutingów stosowane przez ISP. Przede wszystkim BGP. Zobacz, ze dany ISP może mieć kilkanaście połączeń z różnymi sieciami a do danej konkretnej sieci też może mieć kilka połączeń. A coś musi podejmować decyzje jak kierować ruchem. Tym właśnie zajmują się protokoły zaawansowanego rutingu sieciowego które są implementowane w ruterach ISP. U siebie w domu masz temat prosty. Dostajesz IPka od ISPa i na serwerze/ ruterze masz ustawione ze wszystko - caly ruch od siebie - kierujesz do tego dostawcy. Stosujesz tak zwany ruting statyczny. Natomiast dalej to ISP martwi się co z tym ruchem od Ciebie zrobić. Reasumując nie możesz swoich doświadczeń z siecią przenosić na grunt ISP tam są inne reguły gry :) Bardzo ciekawe zresztą :) Pozdr. Hello list, The subject says everything. I would like to use emacs in text console (i.e. not in X) and be able to use both European charcater sets: iso-8859-1 and iso-8859-2. Apparently it is possible to combine two console fonts but I never managed to do that and make emacs use such combination. Hello, I'm trying to get Xwindows going on a live etch CD I prepare using dfsbuilt on recent etch. In my dfs.cfg I added the following packages: x-window-system-core xorg larswm The CD builds OK. It runs fine in text mode however when I try to start Xwindows it complains about inaccessible /var/log directory and quits. Any ideas? Kiedyś na grupie pisałeś że dla celów testowych uruchomiłes rownież openvz, jak sie to sprawdza? Lepiej działa to od linux-vserver? Działał tylko kilka godzin podczas których testowałem jego możliwości. Więc nie mogę podać dokładnie czy jest lepszy do zastosowań praktycznych. - na serwerze zdarzało mi się, że czas systemowy skakał (nawet do 1 godziny/dzień) co było bardzo denerwujące zwłasza, że miałem tam bazę danych. Serwer NTP nic nie pomagał. Wyną obarczałem duży load i dużo operacji I/O. Jak przeniosłem bazy na osobny dysk, a statystyki na inny serwer wszystko zaczęło chodzić jak trzeba. Możliwe że powodoem była konfiguracja sprzętowa (2xOpteron), lecz tutaj nie doszedłem do jakichkolwiek sensownych wniosków - zmiana parametrów zegara systemowego (parametr kernela) przyniosła twardy zwis z panikiem (tak sądze, serwer mam zdalnie w innym kraju, więc trudno mi to ocenić). Wymieniłem kernel na 2.6.20 z backports.org i problem zniknął. W naszym systemie na UW braliśmy pod uwagę tylko VServery i OpenVZ. W końcu zdecydowaliśmy się na OpenVZ, m.in. ze względu na lepszą separację sieci, brak problemów z lo i konieczności bindowania usług do konkretnych IP, możliwość uruchomienia osobnego firewalla dla każdego vzeta, itp. Przetestowałem OpenVZ i musze powiedzieć - fajne ;-) Faktycznie, siec jest w pełni wirtualna, więc loopback działa. Nie ma konieczności przypisywania IP do VPSa. Możliwość ograniczenia zużycia procesora % w czasie rzeczywistym (tj. w ramach głównego serwera wydajemy jedną komendę i już cały VPS zużywa np. maksimum 10% procesora). Całość wygląda na rozwiązanie bardziej dojrzałe od VSerwera. W dokumentacji znalazłem nawet prosty opis migracji do OpenVZ. - czasem jak zatrzymujesz vserver (vserver vserver1 stop) to skrypty potrafią z niewiadomych przyczyn usunąć inne IP, które należą do innych vserwerów (vserver ... start dopisuje te IP, vserver ... stop usuwa teoretycznie tylko te IP). Należy mieć wtedy przygotowanych prosty skrypt, w którym wykonujemy ip a a dev ... aby szybko dodać zaginione IP (nie nalezy się przejmować czy dane IP jest już na interfejsie czy nie, dostaniesz najwyżej bład ale wszystko bedzie chodzić jak trzeba). Ogólnie narzut wirtualizacji to 1-2% obciążenia procesora (przynajmniej tak piszą, ja to w praktyce potwierdzam). Jak VServer wychodzi w porównaniu do Xen'a bo na debian-administration.org widzę że promują Xen'a :) Chodzi mi o ogólne informacje instalacja konfiguracja i użytkowanie? Uwagi: - vapt-get, czyli nie trzeba ładować się na każdy vserwer aby zrobić upgrade, - vtop, vps - czyli łatwo możesz wylistować wszystkie procesy i ew. znaleźć winowajce obciązenia, - kwestia partycji, trudno ocenić co będzie potrzebne dla vserwerów, więc stosuje schemat duża partycja na głowny serwer i vservery (są standardowo w katalogu /var/lib/vservers) i ew. osobne partycje wg. uznania dla każdego vserwera (tworzone w LVM), partycje preferuje mountować w ramach głownego vserwera, choć jest możliwe jest także mountowanie partycji w ramach vserwera, - brak interfejsu lo, czyli w przypadku usług które mają słychać a nie mają być wystawione na świat (SMTP np.) trzeba albo ustawić odpowiedniego firewalla (firewalla konfigurujesz tylko na głownym serwerze, na vserwerze jest to nie możliwe) albo słuchać na sockecie albo wogóle nie słuchać jak nie potrzeba (np. exim4 w trybie queueonly), - do obejscia, cały pomiędzy vserverami idzie po lo (mimo że vserwery mają tylko interfejs eth0), więc trzeba to wziąć pod uwage przy konfiguracji firewalla, - na serwerze zdarzało mi się, że czas systemowy skakał (nawet do 1 godziny/dzień) co było bardzo denerwujące zwłasza, że miałem tam bazę danych. Serwer NTP nic nie pomagał. Wyną obarczałem duży load i dużo operacji I/O. Jak przeniosłem bazy na osobny dysk, a statystyki na inny serwer wszystko zaczęło chodzić jak trzeba. Problem with entering bios setup after interrupted network installation
Hi, About 2 weeks ago I bought a FSC Amilo Pro V3505 laptop. Last Wednesday I tried to install on it Debian from network (using Netinstal CD). However my Network card wasn't detected and installation failed. After message that no card has been detected I tried to pick some random models in hope it will work, but with no sucess. After that I couldn't reboot system in 'normal way', i.e. neither Ctrl-Alt-Del nor Power button worked. After about 5 minutes I pulled out the battery. After plugging it back I came across following problem: I cannot enter bios setup, and system boots from HDD (there is grub from previous, disfunctional instllation of Gentoo). This laptop uses Phoenix bios and according to manual I should be able to turn on/off bootmenu with F12 button, but it doesn't work. Neither does F2 - enter bios setup (before there were no such problem). Esc works, and keyboard as such - tried on grub command line. Is it possible that during installation some part of BIOS has been overwritten or some settings changed? Is there anything I could do about it or do I have to rely on manufacturer's service (I contacted help desk both in Poland (where I live) as well as directly in Germany - but with no sucess, they could't came up with anything usefull - just repeated manual) thnx for Your help Zdumiewająca wystawa klocków Lego i lalek Barbie! Hello, I am having problems with gmailfs. I am using Debian testing amd-64 and gmailfs 0.7.2-2. Apparently I can log in and send files to gmail but I can't list the gmail mount catalogue and copy files from gmail to my computer. My account is OK as I can use it with firefox gmail space extension. Any ideas? Command I have used: apt-get install firefox NOT apt-get install iceweasel I knew exactly what I was doing, because my friend told me that there will be no longer firefox in debian, instead of it will be iceweasel, so I was curious what will happen after typing: apt-get install firefox There is no longer firefox in debian etch, so after typing: apt-get install firefox I would like to see announcement: Firefox packages are no longer present in debian distribution, please try iceweasel. Iceweasel and Firefox are a different products, very similar, but different. So I think that debian should no longer use firefox as a name for iceweasel package! I will give you an example: You are typing: aptitude update aptitude dist-upgrade and after that you realize that you have no longer debian, but knoppix or ubuntu... ups... they are very similar you can say, but did you want to change your debian to ubuntu? I'm very irritated and disappointed with your policy! Why? I've used various Linux distributions for 8 years. I've been using Debian for the last 6 months, but today I changed my mind! After updating Firefox in Debian I realized that Firefox is no longer present in my operating system! Instead of it, I have this trashy and shity Iceweasle. F.u...k, #%[EMAIL PROTECTED] 5^%^*(@ %$$%^$ Oki, I can install my favorite Firefox from other packages, but do you realize, that I would like to be asked if I want to use this f..u...k...ng %^*( *##$$ ^^% Iceweasle instead of Firefox?
