Inconsistent state in util-linux
Greetings. Tried to use aptitude this morning to install the update for openssh/openssl. Saw that there were a few upgrades that were needed so I thought I'd just do a dist-upgrade. Everything seemed ok, except now I'm stuck with util-linux in an inconsistent state, and I don't know quite know how to resolve it. I tried to 'aptitude reinstall', and get the following: The following packages will be REINSTALLED: util-linux 0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 reinstalled, 0 to remove and 114 not upgraded. Need to get 0B of archives. After unpacking 0B will be used. Writing extended state information... Error! E: I wasn't able to locate file for the util-linux package. Change from 64bit to 32bit
Greetings, I'm using Stable with an amd64 kernel. I want to switch to a 32 bit version rather than the 64 bit. Any advice on doing so, or am I better off to just reload totally and start from scratch? What's the best way to make this change? K3b did not find a suitable writer
Greetings, I'm trying to burn an audio CD using K3b on Etch. I get the following message when I click Burn K3b did not find a suitable writer. You will only be able to create an image. The same thing happens if I try to burn as either an audio or a data project, and with any type of file. I can go ahead and burn as a .iso image. I've looked around on the web and found several references to this problem including runnig K3b as root and changing the drive permissions under /dev. I've done both of those to no avail. I've checked that I'm in the cdrom group and that's ok also. Any other suggestions? Perhaps I should use a different package for burning? They've come down in price since I bought mine, and you should be able to find a used one pretty easily. I've got the 1GB and it works great. Does not play .ogg files, but I use the Transcribe script in Amarok to transfer them. Works great. Decent battery life on the single AAA. Perl LibZip problem
Greetings, I'm trying to install the LibZip module into perl on Debian Etch. Perl 5.8 was installed via apt with just the basic install, no changes made. When I run CPAN and do: install LibZip Cpan goes through the process of downloading and unzipping the file, starts the make and then errors out with the information I've included below. Any ideas what I'm missing? I've tried using both 'force' and 'notest', but either way the make fails. Thanks, Rob Wright [EMAIL PROTECTED] end of CPAN make --- Checking if your kit is complete... I'm compiling Freeradius which gives me a problem with DynaLoader. That leads me to CPAN, then to LibZip, and the desire to kick a penguin. If there's a Perl zip library that might solve my problem I'm certainly open to suggestions. Re: Etch not booting on Adaptec 2420sa

The raid is configured as raid5 on three drives with the 4th running hotspare. The etch installer booted fine, saw the raid vol, let me partition it and run a full install. I installed the grub loader into mbr and all looked fine and dandy. No suggestions for you, but I installed this exact card into a new SuperMicro server last week to use RAID 5 on 3 SATA drives. I had no trouble at all with it. The Adaptec card _is_ hardware RAID. I'm assuming that you correctly created and initialized the volume? Simple question but never hurts to ask. Basically I just followed the quick start guide and it worked, and that's why I have suggestions for you. Just saying that it does work and exactly as it should. SATA Raid Difficulty
Greetings, I've got a Supermicro SuperServer 7045B-T. I'm trying to install Etch and I want to use RAID 5. My problem is that Debian in particular and Linux in general doesn't seem to recognize the RAID controller on this box. When going through the install the partitioner sees the 3 physical drives rather than one RAID volume. I repeat the same results when I set up either a RAID 0 or RAID 1 array; and with any Linux distro I've tried: OpenSUSE, SLES, Fedora, Debian Etch both i386 and AMD64. I am able to go ahead and install, but then GRUB freaks out at stage 1.5 with an error indicating it can't find the drives. If I disable the SATA RAID in the BIOS, then installation goes normally, GRUB does it's job, and I get a full boot with a loaded, working system. Just no RAID. In the BIOS I' able to select either an Intel or Adaptec code base, but neither one of them will do the trick. I am able to install Windows 2003 Server on it, just as a test, and only after adding the appropriate driver during the install. Windows sees the one RAID volume and everything works alright after that. Specifics: 3 74.5GB SATA drives Serial ATA AHCI BIOS version iSirc 1.08.sm0 Intel Matrix Storage Manager Rom v5.6.2.1002 ESB2 Is there support for this in Debian, and if so what do I need to do to get it installed? Should I be using Sarge instead of Etch? If I need to provide more information I'll gladly do so. Thanks! Palm III xe
Greetings, I'm new to Debian, so please forgive me if this has been beaten to death. Through Red Hat, Fedora, and OpenSuSE I've not been able to get my old Palm IIIxe to connect and ultimately sync. This is something I was really hoping to be able to do with Debian but I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible at all. I have the original serial syncing cradle, with an USB adapter. Using the serial connection and KPilot, the Palm acts like it's talking to kpilot and tells me it's connecting and cleaning up but it's unable to sync, which is farther than I've gone with anything else. That's using the configuration wizard in kpilot, and autodetecting. Using the usb adapter gets me no connection at all and the unable to connect message on the Palm itself. I've told kpilot to use /dev/ttyS0 directly, and I've linked /dev/ttyS0 to /dev/pilot and tried it that way with no luck. I've found TONS of information through Google over the last year or two, but nothing that actually works. Is it possible to sync up this thing with Linux or have I been tilting at windmills? Assuming it is possible (I believe that ultimately anything with Linux is possible given enough effort) can someone point me to a dangerously simple and clear cut method for doing so? I have Etch installed, as of last Thursday. Thanks for any help, information, brickbats. Rob Wright [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
