Fetchmail + cron + dialup
Hello, What is the best way to configure fetchmail to regularly check for new mail on a dialup account? I tried doing it with a simple cron job like "pon && fetchmail && poff" but the last command for some reasons never worked. I also tried running pppd in "on-demand" mode, but somehow this did not work either. Is there a "normal" or "professional" way of doing it? Many thanks! -- -=Robert & Beata Golovniov | Lviv. I tried applying the advice given in Stefan O'Rear's message [EMAIL PROTECTED], but it did not help. What else should I check? -- -=Robert & Beata Golovniov | Lviv. KDE kind of hands on Initializing services
Hello, Could anybody please help me with such an issue. When I try running KDE (used to do it before already), I get the KDE splash screen showing that KDE is initializing services. After a while, the splash screen disappears and the only thing I see is the wallpaper. No shortcuts or mouse clicks work. How can I determine what is wrong? Thank you. -- -=Robert & Beata Golovniov | Lviv, Ukraine=- ~~~ "Taste and see that Jehovah is good." - Psalm 34:8 PGP key at: https://www.biglumber.com/x/web?qs=golovniov%40interia.pl ~~~ pgpQnL8ZXWGCJ.pgp Description: PGP signature
Postfix does not start
Hello, I am trying to set up Postfix on a Sarge system. When I start the server, everything seems to go well, but I cannot telnet to port 25. When I checked mail log, I saw this: localhost postfix[...]: fatal: /etc/postfix/postfix-script: Permission denied Could somebody please tell me what is the problem there? Thank you all in advance. -- -=Robert & Beata Golovniov | Lviv, Ukraine=- ~~~ "Taste and see that Jehovah is good." - Psalm 34:8 PGP key at: https://www.biglumber.com/x/web?qs=golovniov%40interia.pl ~~~ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". What about the loadable modules? Can I try checking something there? How can I do it? I can just add that, although I've been using Linux for a while, I haven't looked under the hood so often, so even the basic and self-evident hints would be appreciated. :-) -- -=Robert & Beata Golovniov | Lviv, Ukraine=- ~~~ "Taste and see that Jehovah is good." - Psalm 34:8 PGP key at: https://www.biglumber.com/x/web?qs=golovniov%40interia.pl ~~~ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Failed PPP hangs system
Hello! I have a very strange problem to deal with. When a ppp connections gets broken, the whole system (Sarge) hangs and I cannot do anything with it - neither through ssh, nor even through the normal keyboard. What might be the root of the problem and how to fight with it? -- -=Robert & Beata Golovniov | Lviv, Ukraine=- ~~~ "Taste and see that Jehovah is good." - Psalm 34:8 PGP key at: https://www.biglumber.com/x/web?qs=golovniov%40interia.pl ~~~ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Local installation archive
Hello, I would like to use an FTP server on a Windows machine to do a network installation of Debian. So, what is the procedure to make an installation DVD disk into an FTP Debian repository? Any hints would be very much appreciated. -- -=Robert & Beata Golovniov | Lviv, Ukraine=- For hardly will anyone die for a righteous man; indeed, for the good man, perhaps, someone even dares to die. Installing from ftp
Hello, I am having an old Deskpro 575 and want to try installing Woody on it. I cannot run it off the DVD install edition, so I just copied all the files to another machine on the LAN running an FTP server. How can I instruct Debian install to get the files from there? Is there any special order the files should be kept in of the FTP server? Also, this model (Compaq 575) has a strange video card. FreeBSD and Mandrake just refused to work with it. Before I commence with install, does anybody have any advice to me on how to have it work?
