Separate subnet no pring

2005-07-20 Thread Adam Dobrin
I'm having trouble using backuppc from a separate subnet. I have a VPN
connection from an offiste location to my network; and while the remote
machine *can* ping into the internal network, and perl's gethostbyname
functions fine; bpc is still returning a 'no ping'.

nmblookup is not functioning properly, but from what i read in the
documentation, if gethostbyname works, it doesn't go there.

thanks.

Re: [tcsh] disabling autologout? revisited.

1998-04-20 Thread dobrin
Sorry about this, but I was out and missed the beginning, How do you
disable Autologout in tcsh (which I MUST use to be script compliant with the
rest of the facility). I tried login.defs and a few other things. NADA.

Thanks

I got it to work, it was the fault of the HP Kayak, not the driver...

Netgear 10/100tx nic

1998-04-06 Thread Bruce Dobrin
Hi all,

I'm trying to use a few netgear FA310TX 10/100 cards ('cause they're cheap!).
Although they are based on the DEC 21140-AF chip (tulip) they don't seem to
work well (or at all) with even the most recent tulip driver. I tried a
Genuine DEC nic (500tx) with a 21140 and it worked fine. Anyone know of a
driver that has been tweeked for the netgear?

Thanks!

tiff to rla?

1998-03-12 Thread Bruce Dobrin
Hi All,

Anyone out there know of a good Linux program that converts Tiffs to Rla's.
Porting the one we use on the SGI is being rather unpleasant.

Thank you

Hi all,

I'm trying to compile a tool from Irix, What I'm currently getting is a syntax
type error in something called "crt1.o" checked the source and the original
stable release and it is distributed as crt1.o. Does anyone know what this is
and where I can get the uncompiled code?

Thanks

# login from remote host?

1998-02-27 Thread Bruce Dobrin
Hi all,

I'm trying to login to my linux systems as root, it doesn't work. I've setup
the hosts.equiv file so I can login in from elsewhere as anything else, but not
as root. I have an isolated network so security is not an issue.

thanks

Quick Q on ADM & xfs

1998-02-27 Thread Bruce Dobrin
Trying to get adm working with my sgi net running autofs. move auto_map table
in pointed adm at it, tells me that it is having problem with the fs type. I
think I'm just having a syntax problem, do I have to tweek the autofs table?
or the cmd line (amd -D ?) or what. I found lots of info, but no examples of
how that info is to be used. For instance, I'm told the linux version of amd
requires a fs type to be entered which can be used with Opt= or type:=, but I
don't know where to put this opt or type.. If somone out there knows could
you please send some examples?

Thanks much

Monitor for proc usage for SMP systems

1998-02-05 Thread Bruce Dobrin
Anything out there that will breakdown %usage PER PROCESSOR (on Multi Proc
systems). top, xmcpustate, ps all sort of assume single proc. Top will imply
usage (cpu states: 95.3% user 302.4% system..) But I need to know how
it's being broken down Any one got anything!

i've got a 4 proc Intergraph w/256M, 2.0.29 smp, a line in the lilo.conf:
append = "mem=256M". Top and Free still show only 64MB. Same problem on an
Intel (netpower) 2proc box. Any Ideas? (sorry for sending this out, but the
HOWTO's solution just didn't seem to work).
