getting news from multiple servers

1998-05-29 Thread lgunman
[This message has also been posted.]

Currently, when reading USENET news, I start up my ppp connection and
read off of my ISP's news (NNTP) server. But, there are some
newsgroups that are specific to my school, maintained on my school's
NNTP news server. I would like to read these, without having to first
ssh to my University account and read news. As of now, this is the
only way, though, because if I try to access the school's NNTP server
from home, I am not allowed to connect (I have to connect from a
University client, in otherwords).

Is there a way around this? Optimally, I'd like have a script that
would call up my ISP, get the newsgroups I want from that server, then
connect with my school's server, and get those messages.

When I installed Debian 1.3.1, I had inn and innfeed installed, but
I've never used these before, and don't really know where to
start... but I believe I can use these to accomlish what I want?

Any hints or suggestions would be thoroughly appriciated.

Thanks again

pine user converts to mutt

1998-05-28 Thread lgunman
[This message has also been posted.]

I used to use pine as an email client, quite happily, but recently
I've switched to mutt for it's threading and color support (and I just
wanted something new).

Anyway, I'm probably overlooking something obvious, but I'm having
trouble understanding mutt's folder management concept.

I want to skim through my messages, reading them as I go. After
reading a message, I may want to save it, and in pine I would hit a
key to save it to a folder. I've seen the "C" command in mutt: I can
read an email, "C"opy it to a folder, but mutt doesn't automatically
delete the message after it's been copied. Also, it puts the folder
right off of the root of my home directory. I'd rather have it make a
sub directory, say ~/mutt-mail/ where folders could go (like pine :).

I just don't get it!

Any advice, help, or otherwise will be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks!

nn dumps core

1998-05-28 Thread lgunman
[This message has also been posted.]
Hello:

I just installed a fresh Debian 1.3.1 Linux system. I cannot get nn
("No news is good news" news reader). I have the $NNTPSERVER set
correctly, and also /etc/nntpserver is also correct.

When I type nn, it prints two lines, one that looks like a preliminary
check of my news server (it's calling the correct one), then another
line that's basically the same but has "(posting okay)" added to the
end. Then it just sits there for a very LONG time. I'm on a 28.8
modem using ppp; when nn freezes, I see the "rd" light continuously
flashing for a long time. Then the light will stop, nn will quit with
a segmentation fault, and the core will be dumped. What gives?

Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks a million,

mutt not in color

1998-05-28 Thread lgunman
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello:

I just installed mutt on my computer and it is not in color. Here is
an output of "mutt -v":

Mutt 0.91i (1998-04-11)
Copyright (C) 1996-8 Michael R. Elkins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Mutt comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type `mutt -vv'.
Mutt is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions; type `mutt -vv' for details.

System: Linux 2.0.29 [using slang 9938]
Compile options:
-DOMAIN
-HIDDEN_HOST +HOMESPOOL -USE_SETGID +USE_DOTLOCK +USE_FCNTL -USE_FLOCK
+USE_POP +HAVE_REGCOMP -USE_GNU_RX +HAVE_COLOR -BUFFY_SIZE -EXACT_ADDRESS
SENDMAIL="/usr/sbin/sendmail"
MAILPATH="Mailbox"
SHAREDIR="/usr/local/lib"
ISPELL="/usr/bin/ispell"

Mail bug reports along with this output to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

Notice I compiled with slang. Also, I have a recent terminfo database
(Debian 1.3.1 installed). My $TERM is set to linux. I've also tried
rxvt, colr_xterm, and xterm for the TERM variable. mutt is not in
color on the console nor in an xterm or rxvt term (under X). I am NOT
using screen. I also tried explicitly setting the TERMINFO variable
to my terminfo database path. Nothing works. It's nasty.

Thanks
