I had/have the same problem. The way I got around it was to comment out
the "automatic" configuration stuff in /etc/rc.boot/0setserial and
uncommented the appropriate "manual" configuration stuff.

This took care of it for me.

I just installed Debian on a similar setup and can't seem to access my UW
drive either. I got around the problem by installing it on a SCSI-II
drive and will be trying different things now to get the UW one to work.
If I find anything out I'll let you know.

I you like I'll compile a kernel for ya as the stock one takes ages to
boot (at least for me anyway)

Can't get kernel to boot using resq1440.bin (Debian 1.2)

1997-01-05 Thread llucius

I'm trying to install Debian and, after booting from the rescue disk, the
kernel hangs while initializing the "md driver" support. (Well, that's what
the last message was talking about anyway.) Any ideas? My setup:

SuperMicro P6DNF w/2 PPros
128MB ram
Adaptec 3940UW
  IBM UW 2.1gig HD
  Quantum 850meg HD
  Teac 6x CDROM
STB LightSpeed 128
SoundScape Elite
PS/2 Mouse

Thanks,

I'm not sure how WINE works, but in regular windows there is an
alternative: vshare.386.

Yea, I've been waiting for the 6.7.4 release (it fixes some problems us
m68kers have).

Yep, your right. I neglected to inform anyone. (face red in shame)
I've been playing around with this architecture independence stuff that I
COMPLETELY forgot about it. But, since I'll be without a modem for a
few days, I'll take the time to scan the kernel source for any
additions/differences.

I might have gotten the # wrong, but the latest sysklogd (1.3-10) has the
patch applied. (It's still in incoming.)

Yep, it looks REAL simple. It there isn't a current maintainer, I'll
package it up.

Well, I just checked and even the latest(?) version, 2.0.7i, of getty_ps
sets the SIGPIPE signal to SIG_IGN. So it likes like we need to just stay
away from getty_ps altogether (at least on ttys where pipes will be used).

You hit on the head for me anyway. I thought I was using agetty, but I
was using an older version of getty_ps (2.0.7g) and after replacing
with agetty, "cat /dev/null | true" runs like a charm.

Is getty_ps no longer debianized? I've noticed that there is a 2.0.7i
available. Which is better anyway? (I suppose that's up to the user...)

Anyway, THANKS a heap.

I've recently started asking about this too. I figured that it was only
my setup (I'm running Linux/68k), but other people have also said that
there is problems with similar setups to yours.

Unfortunately, I have gotten an answer as yet. (So I modified the source
to ignore 'broken pipe" errors and it works like a charm. B-))

If ya get a solution, please let me know 'cause mine isn't really
acceptable. B-)
