Okay, I figured it out. My hostname was my domain. ru...@domain.tld:~$ uname -n domain.tld ru...@domain.tld:~$ hostname domain.tld ru...@domain.ltd:~$ hostname --fqdn domain.tld I changed this to server.domain.tld ru...@domain.ltd:~$ sudo hostname server.domain.tld and then tried sending emails and this fixed it. Configuring exim4 to send emails
I'm configuring an email to send emails. Emails sent to any domain, apart from my own, are sent okay. I have my emails with Google Apps. Assuming my domain is, example.com. If I send an email from my server to ru...@example.com it doesn't arrive at my Google Apps account, it arrives to my server and I can read it using $ mail. I configured exim the following way: $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config General type of mail configuration: internet site; mail is sent and received directly using SMTP System mail name: domain.tld IP-addresses to listen on for incoming S TP connections: 127.0.0.1:xxx.xxx.xxx.xx Other destinations for which mail is accepted: Domains to relay mail for: Machines to relay mail for: Keep number of DNS-queries minimal (Dial-on-Demand)?: Delivery method for local mail: mbox format in /var/mail/ Split configuration into small files?: $ sudo update-exim4.conf $ sudo /etc/init.d/exim4 restart Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xx is my external IP address and example.com is my real domain. First server with hot swappable capabilities...
Yesterday I was configuring a PowerEdge T300 that, if I remember correctly, has a PERC 6/i controller. It allowed me to build with 4 250GB Sata drives, a Raid 5 array. The server allows me to hot swap the drives. I installed Lenny and configured everything how I wanted. I was wondering, in case something went amiss with one of the drives and I had to change it, is there anything I have to do in the operating system before I went and swapped the drive with the system running? Or is it simply, pull the drive and replace it? O_o Also, since the server is being used to store some big files, what would be the process to change the current 4 250GB drives to 4 larger drives and grow the partitions? I know there are a couple questions here, I tried dividing them so if someone knows to the answer to at least one, they can post it. I haven't really found much about it searching the web, I hope I do better here. -- Rubén O. dire difficulty with udev
Hi folks, I'm kinda needy for help, here. I'm using debian unstable on a Thinkpad T20 and after a recent aptitude upgrade udev (version 0.100-1) broke my os (again...). The resulting symptoms close to what someone mentioned here: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.bugs.general/136682 So I decided to downgrade to the previous version and did: dpkg -P --force-depends udev dpkg -i udev_0.098-2_i386.deb (I'm guessing now this might not be the smartest way of doing such... ?) It resulted in this: Setting up udev (0.098-2) ... /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules exists, persistent interfaces names not saved. Populating the new /dev/filesystem temporarily mounted on /tmp/udev.g0Q1Bs/ ... ln: creating symbolic link '/tmp/udev.g0Q1Bs/.static/dev/initctl' to '/dev/.static/dev/.static/dev/initctl': No such file or directory mount: special device /dev/pts does not exist dpkg: error processing udev (--install) subprocess post-installation script returned exit status 32 Errors were encountered while processing: udev And when I tried installing udev 0.100-1 again it had the same failure to install. So now I can't even get udev installed anymore. Anyone know a way out of this mess (while preserving my debian unstable install of course)? regards, Ruben -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Install stalling with sarge.
I am trying to install sarge, but the installation doesn't seem to be able to detect my hard drive. When I select the "Partition a Hard Drive" option, nothing happens except the installation menu just returns to the "Partition..." option. Windowmanager for gnome/sid
Hi, I recently upgraded my workstation to sid. But now for some reason the windowmanager has changed to the x-window-manager (wmaker in my case). I tried changeing /etc/gnome/default.wm to gnome-wm, setting WINDOW_MANAGER to /usr/bin/sawfish in my .zshenv, changeing .gnome/default.wm to /usr/bin/sawfish and removing all my .gnome files and directories. The strange thing is that the startup screen of gnome says starting gnome window manager, and then later it says starting sawfish, which never happens since wmaker is already started. (Indeed, when the kernel went to dcache, there were quite > a few hoops jumped through to still support it cleanly.) Yes, that works ok. But now try the following: cd /home ln -s ../tmp tmp (I suppose you have a /tmp...) cd tmp You should get a "No such file or directory" error here. If you don't, then my system is broken and I would like to know how to fix it. :) The problem seems to be that the ../tmp in the link is interpreted as pointing to (in your case) /hdd2 and not to / as I was expecting. Please let me know the result of the above commands. Thanks. -- Ruben Leote Mendes - [EMAIL PROTECTED]

When I saw the description in the .deb file I thought it was exactly what I was looking for. After reading the manpage I noticed that symlinks does the opposite of what I want: It changes absolute links to relative links. The good news is that it identifies links that point to another filesystem and also dangling links. The bad news is that it seems to stop recursing into sub-directories at some point and does not find all symlinks. :( I will now download the source package, try to understand it and change it to do what I need. Hello Adam, On Tue, Apr 06, 1999 at 01:09:57PM -0700, Adam Klein wrote: > Why don't you just mount the parition under /usr/local? The main reason is because I want to put several directories in the same partition. I create several directories in the partition and then make symbolic links there. For instance /home and /usr/local will be on the same partition. It seems that I will have to go through all the symbolic links and make them absolute. I must figure out some script to do this. :) Regards, -- Ruben Leote Mendes - [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Symbolic links behaviour
Hello, My /usr/local directory is mounted in /mnt/local. If I cd to /usr/local and type "ls .." it lists the contents of /mnt and not of /usr as I would expect. Is this the normal behaviour? All relative symbolic links that point outside of /usr/local stopped working also. I have to move other directories to new partitions because the disk space is getting low. Is there a way of doing this without having to change all relative links to absolute links? Thanks. -- Ruben Leote Mendes - [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: "Reply all" doesn't work in exmh
Mark, this works for me with nmh. From my .mh_profile: Alternate-Mailboxes:[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], ruben repl: -annotate -nocc me -cc to -cc cc (actually my line is longer with formats and filters, but you get the idea - the alternate mailboxes stuff is what (n)mh uses to decide which addresses qualify as 'me')
Mapping memory
I have a device witch maps memory in the mega 12, but i have physical memory at this location. Is there any way to solve it?
Installing contrib and non-free packages
Hello, thanks for reading. After installing Debian I tried to install some non-free and contrib packages with no success. The packages show up in the dselect program, I select them for installation and press ENTER to install. No errors, no warnings, it seems everything went fine but the package is not installed. I am installing from a harddisk that contains a copy of a local Debian ftp archive. The hardisk copy was made using the package 'mirror'. It has all the distribution except the 'source' directories ( the disk is only 420Mb ). If I install directly from the archive with ftp, everything works fine. Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance. -- Ruben Leote Mendes - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - CT1ETZ - ARUA
