La carte est bien détectée.
Quelque soit le pilote choisi, pilote Free ou Non-Free.
pas de bureau graphique (Trinity-TDE).
Ni lightdm, ni tdm-trinity (gestionnaire de connexion) ne s'affichent.
S'agit-il de TDE qui ne s'accomode pas de Buster ?

Dernière nouvelle, en lançant X en mode console,
le bureau s'est lancé mais avec une résolution beaucoup trop faible,
et impossible de l'augmenter.

Y a bien sur la ML un inscrit qui est sous Buster et TDE ? :-)

Mauvaise mesure. C'est un problème de plomberie, il faut être certain de
télécharger un fichier sur un serveur «proche» sans restriction de débit.

Accessoirement, il faut regarder directement sur le wifi quelle est le type de
connexion utilisé et sa qualité, donc les débit maximum théorique et pratiques
atteignables (en n'oubliant pas de ne pas mélanger octets et bits, voire
de savoir si on compte bien en multiple de 1024...).

there is no NFS in play, everything was tested locally or did I
misinterpret your suggestion.

Ok,, pls excuse my rash entry due to an xmass manic,

The story goes, I bought a live/stream of wmv through www.setanta.com  as 
the prefered medium was M$ XP or V,  as I need to use M$ boxes for general 
comms I decided to risk the possible invasion hoping that this was me being 
negative. Well I watched the first test feed as you do and left to resume 
later. At ressumption, said M$ box crashed fitted a fresh one as I was 
updating the grafix card for a better visuals  thought I had possibly made 
a mistake. however, once shutdown M$ box 2, upon re-boot, box 2 failed.

Conclusion, hack attack.

So, through the course of try the advice posted, I know have ended up with 3 
M$ boxes crashed  2 debian failoing too. Debian failed after trying to 
update the neccesary gstreamer  iceweasel/firefox add-ons to enable 
viewing.


I now find myself on a Centos 5.2 laptop trying to find an answer to the 
question for success, but also, what on earth is going on that after 6-7 
months of safe/secure usage of www, that a simple purchase of a stream can 
so fully incapacitate me, with the little but strong knowledge of 9 yrs 
surfing/building behind myself that one might have.


Has anyone else encountered this issue or am just unluky right now ??

Has anyone got an ansmer to stop this hack per stream ??

Wüßte nicht wie bzw. warum - die anderen Daten können ja erfolgreich ins
 Verzeichniss gelegt werden.

Ist Paket manuell herunterladen + installieren eine Option?

Wäre einen Versuch Wert - allerdings hätte ich schon gerne das apt weiß
was es installiert hat oder was meintest Du mit manuell herunterladen 
installieren?

 Gibt es die Datei /etc/amavis/conf.d/30-template_localization denn?
 Müsste doch jetzt eigentlich nach der abgebrochenen Installation in dem
 Verzeichnis liegen. Wenn ja, kommentiere die Zeile
 read_l10n_templates('en_US', '/etc/amavis'); doch einfach aus. Habe
 ich bei mir auch. In ner deutschen Umgebung - ist ja offensichtlich eine
 bei dir - scheint es auch ohne extra Laden der Sprache/des Charsets
 keine Probleme zu geben - läuft bei mir auch so. Auch wenn bei mir der
 Fehler während der Installation nicht gekommen ist sondern erst als apt
 den Amavis-Prozess starten wollte.
 
 Nach dem auskommentieren einfach die Installation noch mal neu starten.
 Da ja sowieso alle Umgebungsvariablen auf deutsch stehen sollten, sollte
 es danach auch ohne Probleme in deutsch laufen. Nur wenn du eine
 andere Sprache willst gibt es mit deiner Amavis Version (müsste der
 Backport sein, oder?) Probleme, weil es die l10n-Templates tatsächlich
 nicht gibt.

Danke für den Tipp! Jetzt hat die Installation funktioniert! :-)
Ich benötige derzeit in der Tat nur die deutsche Umgebung (trotzdem
merkwürdig - muß das mal im Hinterkopf behalten!).

Jetzt habe ich noch ein Problem mit amavis-stats wie ich gerade
festgestellt habe - da wird die apache.conf nicht gefunden :-(

Kannst Du etwas damit anfangen?

# apt-get install amavis-stats

 Menge über SNMP, RRDTool/MRTG usw. lernen kann.

vielen Dank auf jeden Fall schon mal!

Habe soeben festgestellt, das amavis-stats wohl nicht weiter
entwickelt wird. Stattdessen gibt es ein Nachfolge-Projekt namens
parselog. Damit sollen mehrere Dienste ausgewertet werden können.

Wird wahrscheinlich noch ein Weilchen dauern bis die SW in Debian

Horizontal Artifacts on Screen - Testing

Hi,

I have upgraded my machine to testing, however since doing so my desktop
has started intermittently displaying horizontal artifacts on the screen
like this ... http://www.stocktons.org.uk/Screenshot.png.

It does not seem to matter which applications I am running or which
window manager, I have also tried changing the Refresh Rate from 75Hz to
60Hz and also dropping the resolution from 1280x1024 but this has not
helped either.

I have some kind of old ATI agp card (not sure what sorry) and am 
using the ati driver.

I had no problems whilst running Xfree86, this problem seems to have
come about when upgrading to testing and xorg.

Any advice much appreciated, as I have run out of ideas.

executable. Derrick I believe what you are looking for is called 
an unpacker. These are the reverse of a packaging or setup utility to 
create self installing executables for software applications, or something 
like that.

What you need to do is view the file properties, on a Windows PC is best, of 
the setup.exe or whatever it is named, sometimes it's called install.exe. 
Anyway, the properties dialog box should give you the name of the setup 
utility that was used to create the installation or setup .exe file. There 
are several well known packers out there namely, Installshield, Setup 
Factory, Inno setup etc.

couple unpackers in it for Inno and Setup Factory as well as a disassembler.

growth, we do see occasional errors, such as the one you have received.  We 
are working hard to minimize such errors and are hopeful that it will not 
effect 
you beyond this incident.

PROBLEM 2

Problem: I stopped in the middle of the registration process and now
my domain is taken.

Don't worry. If you were in the registration process and did not complete 
the last step (Step 5), then your domain is probably just .on hold. for 30 
minutes. After 30 minutes the domain name should automatically be 
released.  To secure the domain, you will have to complete the entire 
registration process again at that time.

PROBLEM 3
-
Problem: I did not get a confirmation email.

There are a number of reasons that this may have occurred.  You can request
a copy of your confirmation email by going to:
http://my.dot.tk/cgi-bin/login01.taloha
Please enter your email address and click 'Resend the new registration email'.

However, if you provided an incorrect email address or did not get the 
confirmation email for some other reason your registration of the 
domain will not be accepted.  The domain is on hold, 
but will be released by our system within 72 hours (3 days).  At that time, 
the domain will be available for re-registration.  If you wish to secure the 
domain, you will be required to complete the registration process again.  
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

PROBLEM 4

Problem: My address did not pass the verification system.

Dot TK uses an Address Verification System to insure that our 
registrants provide valid information and that the information is correct. 
Due to the complexity of International Address Verification, the system 
occasionally identifies correct, valid data as invalid.

If you are experiencing this problem, please be sure you are completing 
all the fields. All fields are mandatory, except the fax number.  If you do not 
have a phone line or area code, please be sure you enter a '0' in the area 
code field and '00' in the phone number field. This usually solves the 
problem.

PROBLEM 5

Problem: I have problems with uploading content to my website.

Dot TK is NOT an Internet Service Provider or hosting facility.
We just forward your Dot TK domain name to another existing
webpage or website, located somewhere on the Internet. Please
consult your existing Internet Service provider or hosting
facility how you can upload HTML, images and more with programs
like FTP, WSFTP or SCP.

PROBLEM 6

Problem: I forgot my password!

Dot TK can send your password to your email address. Just go to
http://my.dot.tk/cgi-bin/login01.taloha
and fill out your email address. Click then on the text
'Email me my password' and within seconds you will receive
an email with your password.

Please note that both email address and password are case
sensitive.

PROBLEM 7
-
Problem: my domain has been suspended, now what?

For all FREEDOMAIN.TK domain names there is an important
rule: you should have at least 30 hits every 90 days.
If you have less then 30 hits, your domain name will
be suspended for 10 following days. During these days
you are able to buy your domain name. Please visit
My Dot TK, login, and go to 'Pay for domain'.

Please note that this usage rule is ONLY applicable
for FREEDOMAIN.TK domain names and NOT for PAIDDOMAIN.TK,
SPECIALDOMAIN.TK and TRADEMARK.TK domain names.

xeon 64 kernel compatibility

Apologies if this has been previously discussed, however the list search
facility is not working at the moment.

In broad terms, will the same kernel that runs on a standard xeon cpu,
run on the 64bit version ?  Does anybody have any experience with this
that they could share with me ?

I am specifically looking at purchasing one of these ..

Spammassassin Problems

I am new to Debian, I have been using SuSE since 5.3 and have just move
to Debian.

I am having a problem getting Spamassassin to work correctly. It's running.

I have turn it in default and I am see process...

Conexant AccessRunner PCI vs sarge kernel 2.6.8

Hi,

Anyone got any ideas how to persuade these to work properly together?

I have an unbranded Conexant AccessRunner PCI card and Sarge 3.1r0a
sitting here not playing nicely on kernel 2.6.8.

I can't get the conexant driver to build with the kernel-source
package at all.  Just craps out a load of header errors.  I can't send
the errors unfortunately as they are on the other box and it's only
network connectivity is via the non-working ADSL card.

Any help appreciated or any success stories appreciated too!

debarchiver and ehterconf problem at apt-get dist-upgrade woody to testing

Hi everybody,

i have two problems. Both are coming with apt-get dist-upgrade. I only want
to update the system from woody to sarge. All packages, without debarchiver
and etherconf, are installed correctly.

The problems:

debarchiver: the install progress stops after “Setting up debarchiver
(0.1.1) ...”. After about a half hour with seeing that the system do nothing
I pressed ctrl + c to stop installing this package.

Etherconf comes after debarchiver and shows me the following problem:

I found out that the problem with etherconf is reported as a bug
(Bug#192127). But I don´t find any solutions.

What if you purge both packages (apt-get remove --purge), make sure
apt-get dist-upgrade doesn't want to upgrade anything else, and then
reinstall them?

Don't worry. If you were in the registration process and did not complete 
the last step (Step 5), then your domain is probably just .on hold. for 30 
minutes. After 30 minutes the domain name should automatically be 
released.  To secure the domain, you will have to complete the entire 
registration process again at that time.

PROBLEM 3

Problem: I did not get a confirmation email.

There are a number of reasons that this may have occurred.  You can request
a copy of your confirmation email by going to:

Please enter your email address and click 'Resend the new registration email'.

However, if you provided an incorrect email address or did not get the 
confirmation email for some other reason your registration of the 
domain will not be accepted.  The domain is on hold,

like FTP, WSFTP or SCP.

Dot TK can send your password to your email address. Just go to

and fill out your email address. Click then on the text
'Email me my password' and within seconds you will receive
an email with your password.

For all FREEDOMAIN.TK domain names there is an important
rule: you should have at least 30 hits every 90 days.
If you have less then 30 hits, your domain name will

Hallo Leute,ich habe derzeitig das folgende 
Problem. Ich möchte auf einem Server Debian Sarge (3.1) installieren. 
Bei der installation tritt allerdings das folgende Problem auf. Die 
Festplatten werden zwar erkannt, aber eigentlich sollte, aufgrund der Raid 
Config (Raid 1 Mirror) nur eine sichtbar sein. Nun weiss ich nicht 
genau, wie ich die ganze Sache anfangen soll. Es handelt sich bei dem Raid um 
ein AMI HyperDisk 100, dass m.E. über den Megaraid(1) oder Megaraid(2).o 
angesprochen werden sollte.?!Wenn sich jemand mit Debian etc auskennt 
wäre ich echt für seine Hilfe 
dankbar!Ciao

1). Must can support multiple domain. I have Domain for abc.com.my and

2). The email user must can be control to become a local user or

local user - only can send email between domain, it mean that user
from domain abc.com.my can send email to cde.com.my but can't send to
other beside this two domain. 
3). all outgoing email must can be store at one location for top
management to view if upon request. (if possible by selected
user) 
4). all incoming email must can be store at one location for top
management to view back upon request. (If possible by selected
user) 
5). all incoming or out going email with attachment must can be on
hold by postmaster for checking purpose, before release to user or send
out. 
6). email from specify address must can be forward to special
account for checking purpose. example I have user1 which can send and
received external email. but I don't him to received email from user

Aufnahme der Beitrittsverhandlungen mit der Tuerkei oder nicht - eine 
Entscheidung, die 'das Ende Europas' bedeuten koennte. Dieses Wort stammt vom 
frueheren franzoesischen Praesidenten Giscard d'Estaing.
Schon 2002 hatte er davor gewarnt, dass ein Beitritt der Tuerkei zur EU dem 
'Ende Europas' gleichkaeme. Die bundesdeutschen Beitrittsbefuerworter 
verdraengen und verschweigen die unabsehbaren Folgen dieser Entscheidung:

(1) Die Tuerkei hat schon jetzt 70 Millionen Einwohner. Sie wird bis zu ihrem 
EU-Beitritt die BRD in der Bevoelkerungszahl ueberholt haben und in den 
EU-Institutionen das entsprechende Stimmengewicht erhalten.
(2) Die Tuerkei passt wirtschaftlich nicht in die EU. Das Land ist hoffnungslos 
ueberschuldet und waere ohne staendige internationalen Kredite laengst 
bankrott. Das Pro-Kopf-Einkommen betraegt nur 23% des EU-Durchschnitts. Die 
EU-Subventionen, auf die die Tuerkei Anspruch haette, wuerden nicht nur den 
Bruesseler Haushalt sprengen, sondern auch die heute schon ueberschuldeten 
'Geberlaender' wie die BRD gaenzlich ruinieren.
(3) Mit der Aufnahme eines asiatischen Landes und dem Verzicht auf vernuenftige 
Aussengrenzen verliert die EU ihre Identitaet.

Trotz dieser unbestreitbaren Sprengsaetze rollt die Kampagne fuer den 
tuerkischen Beitritt immer schneller und unaufhaltsamer voran: Der tuerkische 
Regierungschef Erdogan nimmt bereits an den Konferenzen der EU-Regierungschefs 
teil, freilich noch ohne Stimmrecht und die Tuerkei erhaelt jetzt schon 
EU-Gelder zur 'Beitrittsvorbereitung'.
Es ist alles wie bei der Euro-Einfuehrung: Erst erscheint der ganze Plan 
unrealistisch und wird von vielen fuer undurchfuehrbar gehalten; dann wird eine 
offene Diskussion ueber Pro und Contra als 'europa- oder fremdenfeindlich' 
kriminalisiert, und schliesslich wird die Entscheidung hinter verschlossenen 
Tueren, ohne Beteiligung des demokratischen Souveraens und ohne Volksabstimmung 
gefaellt und fuer unumkehrbar erklaert.
Dasselbe Spiel mit den Vorbedingungen: Beim Euro waren es die Maastrichter 
Kriterien, die schon vor 1999 nicht erfuellt wurden und inzwischen offen 
missachtet werden. Die Tuerkei-Kriterien heissen: Wiedervereinigung Zyperns 
(als ob das so wichtig waere), Menschenrechte, Demokratisierung. Nichts hindert 
Ankara daran, diese Bedingungen pro forma zu erfuellen. Selbst wenn sie 
erfuellt wuerden, waeren damit die oben angefuehrten grundlegenden Argumente 
gegen den Tuerkei-Beitritt nicht im geringsten widerlegt.
Ein uebles Spiel, das den Verdacht naehrt, hier werde eine Verschwoerung gegen 
Deutschland und Europa angezettelt. Berlin hat sich ohne jedes Waehlermandat 
bereits festgelegt. Sollte der Beitritt scheitern, sagte Aussenminister Fischer 
laut 'WamS' vom 8. 2. 2004, wuerde man dafuer 'einen sehr hohen Preis zahlen'.

Ein Satz, den man zweimal lesen muss. Fischer droht dem deutschen Volk. Worin 
der hohe Preis bestehen wuerde, verschweigt er. Vielleicht meint er, dass die 
in Deutschland lebenden Tuerken auf die Strasse gehen koennten. Oder er 
fuerchtet den Zorn der USA, die den Beitritt seit Jahren verlangen. Washington 
weiss genau, dass die Aufnahme Kleinasiens zu einem 'bankrotten Halt' der 
gesamten EU (so die 'Financial Times' vom 15.1.2004) fuehren koennte. Ganz 
nuechtern urteilt die 'International Herald Tribune' am 24.11.2003:

'Dass die Bevoelkerung in ganz Europa schrumpft, bedeutet, dass noch mehr 
Einwanderung bevorsteht. Die Aufnahme der Tuerkei als EU-Mitglied wuerde diesen 
Trend beschleunigen und die Definition Europas unwiderruflich aendern � Viele 
Europaeer muessen erst noch akzeptieren, dass die traditionell weisse, 
christliche Kultur ihrer Vorfahren abgeloest wird von einem multikulturellen 
Mix mit einem starken islamischen Gewicht.'

  /bin/mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb
et après tu peux mounter le memstick sur le port USB

Juste une petite question quel est le format de ta clé usb.
J'aurais essayé
  /bin/mount -t vfat /dev/sda /mnt/usb
mais je n'ai aucune garantie

cd /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.26
make menuconfig
make-kpkg kernel-image
dpkg -i ../kernel-image-2.4.26deb

et rebooter

Un conseil : Ne pas supprimer trop le noyau original 2.4.18 pour pouvoir
rédémarrer la machine si la nouvelle config est mauvaise



La question est : comment faire pour transfèrer du PC vers Debian
 - cdrom, quel est le format à utiliser pour graver
 - disquette, quel utilitaire pour fractionner sur le PC et 
reconstruire sur Debian



Pas clair !
Si Windows et Debian sont sur le même disque, on peut lire et seulement
lire une partition Windows2000 depuis Debian en utilisant le module ntfs

sinon il doit bien avoir un logiciel livré avec le graveur qui
fonctionne sous Windows. 
A défaut il y a une version de mkisofs qui tourne sous Windows sur ce

site : http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

J'ai réussi à construire un kernel 2.4.26 sur une base 3.0r2 ;-)
Or le kernel obtenu est destiné à plusieurs machines (serveurs) dont la 
configuration matérielle est (sera) la même


  - DELL PE 650
  - Monoprocesseur Intel Pentium 4 XEON APIC version 20
  - Faible mémoire 512 Ko
  - ACPI
  - PCI BIOS
  - TEAC CDROM sur bus IDE
  - SCSI ADAPTEC 3960D
  - Adapteur Ethernet Intel Dual Port 1000 (e1000)

avec l'utilisation d'une unité de stockage temporaire (USB memory stick)
La connection à Internet se fera par la carte Ethernet et dans la futur 
pas de console associée aux machines.


la typologie fonctionnelle de ces serveurs
  - firewall/samba/DNS/LDAP
  - MySQL/J2EE
  - SMPT/POP3

La question est : qui pourrait me faire donner les informations ou me 
trnsmettre un un fichier de configuration (.config) qui correspondent à 
ces besoins minimaux pour disposer d'un kernel le plus réduit possible.



Je dois reconnaitre que ma demande est de bénéficier - sans trop 
d'efforts de ma part - de longues heures passées à tester les 
différentes configurations possibles.

En fait cela est un peu plus compliqué
Selon que l'on appartient à une zone

cuivre propriété de FT)

  3/ ou pas dégroupé
  4/ pas dégroupé mais trop éloigné d'un concentrateur
notre situation différera 

Seul les clients appartenants à la première zone peuvent s'affrancher de 
FT, tous les autres utilisent les services de FT ou du moins le fil de 
cuivre qui arrive chez vous et doivent donc souscrire un abonnement à FT.


Dans mon cas, je souhaitai ne pas faire appel à Wanodoo et j'ai donc 
contacté les différents ISP tels Télé2, Free et bien d'autres.
Mon raccordement devant passer par FT (zone 3), ces opérateurs ont reçu 
de FT la réponse que je n'était pas éligible à l'ADSL (zone 4)


Or Wanadoo m'a proposé un contrat en bonne et due forme ... :-

Sinon, d'après http://adsl.free.fr/degroup/info.html , en zone dégroupé, on est 
bien en 5 megs de DL quand les services télé sont éteints (2 megs avec), plus 350 
kb/s en upload.

Merci de tous ces conseils mais je n'arrive pas à construire un nouveau 
kernel qui puisse booter normalement


Kernel Panic VFS unable to mount root fs on 08:02

2 lignes plus haut j'ai ceci
  /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-8, errno = 2
suivi de
  VFS Cannot open root devices 802

J'ai recommencé plusieurs fois l'opération décrite pas Jean-Pierre (je 
la connais parfaitement maitenant)


Le seul cas dans lequel le nouveau kernel (2.4.26) est opérationnel est 
la cas où j'utilise le fichier de config initial (2.4.18-bf2.4) sans 
apporter de modification

  cp /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.26
  cp /boot/config-2.4.18-bf2.4 .config
  make menuconfig (sans moidification)

Si lors de la création de la config je sélection le driver qui 
m'intéresse (le seul)


Network device support -
  Ethernet (1000 Mbit) -
(x) Intel(R) PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet support

le nouveau kernel ne boote plus et se plante sur le message décrit 
en début de ce fil.


Toutes (bonnes) idées est la bien venue

PS : lors de la reconstruction de chaque noyau j'effectue
la commande suivant avant toutes choses
  rm -r /lib/modules/2.4.26
et je termine la procédure par
  /sbin/lilo -v
Je construit le nouveau kernel lors d'un boot sur le floppy (2.4.18-bf2.4)

Je n'ai a aucun moment le temps de sélection le kernel de boot
  - Linux
  - LinuxOld
lorsque je boote sur le disque dur (/dev/sda2)

Installer avant les paquets  binutils, bzip2, coreutils ou fileutils

Pour compiler le noyau à la Debian, installer le paquet kernel-package
et probablement le paquet libncurses-dev pour configurer le noyau

et ensuite le cirque habituel:
cd /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.26
make menuconfig
make-kpkg kernel-image
dpkg -i ../kernel-image-2.4.26deb

et rebooter

Un conseil : Ne pas supprimer trop le noyau original 2.4.18 pour pouvoir
rédémarrer la machine si la nouvelle config est mauvaise



La question est : comment faire pour transfèrer du PC vers Debian
 - cdrom, quel est le format à utiliser pour graver
 - disquette, quel utilitaire pour fractionner sur le PC et 
reconstruire sur Debian



Pas clair !
Si Windows et Debian sont sur le même disque, on peut lire et seulement
lire une partition Windows2000 depuis Debian en utilisant le module ntfs

sinon il doit bien avoir un logiciel livré avec le graveur qui
fonctionne sous Windows. 
A défaut il y a une version de mkisofs qui tourne sous Windows sur ce

Afin de configurer correctement ma carte réseau (Intel Dual Port 1000MT 
: e1000), il me faut mettre à jour le noyau 2.4.20 en remplacement d'un 
2.4.18-bf2.4

Or le fichier linux-2.4.20.tar.gz récupéré sur PC (Win2K) a une taille 
de 33 Mo.


La question est : comment faire pour transfèrer du PC vers Debian
  - cdrom, quel est le format à utiliser pour graver
  - disquette, quel utilitaire pour fractionner sur le PC et 
reconstruire sur Debian

Merci de toutes vos réponses.
Quelques précisions :
  - il s'agissait de 2 machines distinctes
  - la machine qui hébergera Debian, un serveur rack (1U)
  - l'adapteur Ethernet est monté d'origine par Dell
  - je débute avec Linux (même si dans unpassé lontain, j'ai cotoyé 
SunOs 4.1.3, HP-UX 9.x, AIX, Ultrix ...) et donc je souhaite minimiser 
les opérations et les fausses manips.
  - j'ai bien une clé USB mais je reporte cette configuration après 
celle de l'adapatateur Ethernet ...


J'ai téléchargé tous les kernels2.4.20 à 2.4.26 avec leurs patchs ... je 
vais burner un CD avec les indications ques vous m'avez données  - 
format ISO9660


Un des contributeurs m'indique qu'il est opportun d'ajouter seulement 
les patchs 19 et 20 sur le kernels 2.4.18 ... c'est surement le choix 
que je vais faire.


Quant à la question pourquoi pas le 2.4.26, je ne sais que répondre ... 
le manuel d'installation trouvé pour compiler les sources e1000 
mentionne uniquement le 2.4.20 ... alors dans un souci de simpliciter ...
J'ai aussi lu - après une recherche sur google - que le kernel 2.6.1 
incluait le driver e1000, mais je ne me sens pas capable aujourd'hui de 
faire cette migration ...



Quelles sonts les précautions à prendre lors de l'installation d'un 
nouveau kernel ?

Kernel 2.4.18 et version.h

Exposé succint du contexte.

Machine DELL PowerEdge 650 ave un Intel Ethernet Dual Port 10/100/1000.
Le driver pour cet adapteur n'existe pas dans le noyau (uname -r 
2.4.18-bf2.4). Le site d'intel propose ce driver pour Linux dans le 
version e1000-5.2.52.
Pour installer les objets (*.o) ainsi que l'outil ethtool, il est 
nécessaire de disposer des sources du noyau :

  apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.18
Il a fallu auparavant installer
  apt-get -f install make


Exposé du problème

Le fichier Makefile fourni par Intel s'arrête car le fichier
/usr/src/$(uname -r)/include/linux/version.h
n'existe.

J'ai aussi créé le lien pour pa
  cd /usr/src
  ln -s kernel-source-2.4.18-bf2.4 kernel-source-2.4.18
