The directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_RELEASE) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.35-9-desktop). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel. What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? I am pursing a task of establishing a procedure among my colleagues - system administrator which will help us enable/disable services on Debian servers. I am considering update-rc.d script that is mentioned in Debian documentation and was also mentioned on this list on a few occasions. I have 2 questions which are not covered by either manual for update-rc.d or the official Debian documentation: 1. How do I preserve a knowledge of priority level (K or S) for a daemon? For example: When daemon is installed, some default priority values are setup. e.g. for amd both K and S value are equal to 35. Removing any system startup links for /etc/init.d/am-utils ... /etc/rc0.d/K35am-utils /etc/rc3.d/S35am-utils or for nfs-kernel-server K=80 and S=20. /etc/rc5.d/S20nfs-kernel-server /etc/rc6.d/K80nfs-kernel-server Let assume that I disable nfs-kernel-server by setting up K=80 for all run levels. How I am suppose to know that value of S should be equal to 20, 3 months later when I decide that I need this service. I have seen in the past a formula K=100-S, but it obviously does not apply universally to all daemons ( in case of AMD S=K=35). I can purge and re-install and the package, but I do not to loose all configuration settings. For example 2. Is there a command/tool to display status of all services in all runlevels. I recall that such tool existed in RedHat 8.0 /sbin/chkconfig --list if I am not mistaken. I think this is not possible. If you want disable some service without lost the runlevels, I recommend to you edit the script in /etc/init.d and put in a second line exit 0. I don't know command like chkconfig --list in debian, mas you can use: ls -alh /etc/rc*.d/*am-utils Gilberto -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? devs no kernel 2.6
Olá lista, Estou usando o kernel 2.6.4 no meu desktop.

Re: Rotas no IPTABLES
I need to add users to a passwd/shadow file, but these files does not reside in /etc dir. Thus I can not use the adduser or useradd tool to add the users, because then they will be added to the /etc/passwd|shadow file, and my passwd/shadow files are in another directory. These passwd/shadow files are used by an ftp server. I have managed to create a passwd file, and wrote the user name and uid, and homedir etc... by hand. The shadow file's passwords must be encrytped with md5. So I used the 'htpasswd' program to create a password for the user. I typed: htpasswd -m shadow.ftp user The problem is that this program doesn't create a password like the adduser program used to create, and put to the /etc/shadow file. When I try to login with 'user' via ftp (using the newly created shadow file), it says username and/or password was not accepted, so the password generation didn't work. 'htpasswd -bmn user password' output: user:$apr1$DlJ9I...$E8VL0rjQKdl1pVgH2q10C. 'adduser user' (with same password as above) output: user:$1$NR.fOvEF$.hOr7l7msiIfz6sP4l0yS/ As you can see they don't match. So my question is, that is it possible to create passwords for a shadow file with a command line tool? Is this htpasswd the right tool for this, and I just can not use it? Or if this is not possible, then how can I specify another destination shadow/passwd file for the adduser/useradd program. Thanks! Re: wireless configuration questions

I've installed wireless tools and pcmcia support. I have an orinoco gold card that I'm trying to configure, and think Im almost there. I've entered my network essid, encryption key, wireless rate, and wireless mode parameters in /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts, and have entered the following to the /etc/network/interfaces file: iface eth1 inet dhcp. Do I need to add anything else to the interfaces file? Or will the wireless.opts file handle everything? (Or do those two files conflict with one another, and I should only be editing one of them?) The problem I'm having is that when I activate the configuration using korinoco, the card lights up, and iwconfig eth1 gives the correct network values, but I can't connect to the internet. (And KDE runs very slowly, and takes a long time to load when I use korinoco.) Are there some other parameters or commands I need to enable internet access for my wireless network? Thanks in advance. Iptables, anti-spam e gnome.
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon. Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly. The last error message was: Failed to activate 'OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon' GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in. -corta Alguém sabe o motivo desse erro???
IServerd
Ola lista eu instalei o Postgresql e o iserverd no meu servidor e tudo bele. Abracos Gilberto
