ATI 3D Rage Pro AGP 2x
Hello! I wanna run a ATI 3D Rage PRO AGP 2x in Debian, Ver. 2.1, but it doesn`t work...the best result: The screen is repeated 4 times...how can I fix that...I had already a look to the XFree86.org FAQ and have searched in the debian mailing archive, but I didn`t found anything usable for my graphic-card. Who can help me? If you need more information, please let me know! With kind regards Florian

You may get these at : http://www.debian.org/~vincent Put this URI only in /etc/apt/sources.list : deb http://www.debian.org/~vincent/ xfree-update main Then, apt-get update apt-get upgrade apt-get install xserver-mach64 apt-get clean Cheers, -- Howard Mann Online Troubleshooting Resources: HOWTO http://www.newbielinux.comhttp://www.xmission.com/~howardm/t1.html

This is exactly the case. I have the card mentioned in the original post, and it works well wih potato. The problem is that this card is not supported in the X version that comes with slink. It's supported since version 3.3.3. You can also install a recent version on top of slink if you don't want to upgrade. Bruno.

Re: ATI 3D Rage Pro vx Xfree (and a comment)
Hi Hogland, Thomas E.; unless Mutt is confused, you wrote: I know this can be done, but can't find the answer in the old digests... Have a Compaq Presario with the ATI 3D Rage Pro card. Installed from CD, set up X, used the listed Mach64 servers (for the Rage and Rage II) and X dies with the message that it can't start the server. The VGA setup comes up fine... Any ideas?? I'll assume you have a PCI card, but same info should apply to AGP based card: upgrade the XFree86 package to the latest ( I think it is *_3.3.2-3.deb or higher) and you should be fine... I know this can be done, but can't find the answer in the old digests... Have a Compaq Presario with the ATI 3D Rage Pro card. Also, as a public service to other newbies out there: I downloaded the Official Debian User's Guide and referenced it during my last attempt to install Debian. It worked, but the basic step-by-step stuff wasn't quite correct (as far as messages and stuff). Great info, though... I finally found the print version at Borders Books (with the 3 CD's) and re-installed from that. The book and CD follow each other to the letter as far as what order everything happens, what it asks and what you respond... Wonderful job coordinating the two! My only moment of confusion was in trying to figure out which CD to use - the 1.3 binary or the Custom / Extras disk!! To all who worked on that - congratulations on a great product! Best $40 or so I ever spent... -- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
