RV: Amazing installation. SCSI problems
-Mensaje original- De: Antonio A. Rivas Ojanguren [EMAIL PROTECTED] Para: John C. Ellingboe [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fecha: miércoles, 06 de enero de 1999 05:24 p.m. Asunto: RE: Amazing installation. SCSI problems Hi John You are right, I don't have a bootable system. LILO hangs when it looks for the SCSI drive. Here, in Spain, Marcelo E. Magallón says that it could be a termination problem with my card.. I'd tried his suggestions because I thought he was right, but they didn't work by now. Although I don't know exactly how to do it, I'll try your indications. If you know any other sites where I could find info on debian's set up program and the installation of the modules, please send me their addresses (I will look for the info in the net but it could take me several days, even weeks, 'cos I can't stay in for a long time because of the phone bill. if you're european you'd understand me. By the way, where are you from?, I'm from Oviedo, Principado de (principality of) Astuias , Spain). Please, forgive me if my english is not understandable. My level is not as high as I wish. I must look the dictionary to find the words and I'm not sure enough about the syntax of what I'm writting. Think in english is not as easy to me as think in spanish and I tend to write it like I write spanish. Greetings and thanx a lot Antonio A. Rivas
RE: Amazing installation. SCSI problems
Thanx John But as I've said in my previous e-mail I'm new here and I don't know the ways to deal with debian as well as you think. Can you tell me how can I set up the driver? Greetings from Spain. Antonio A. Rivas Ojanguren [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hey Antonio, You didn't select the driver for your SCSI controler when you installed the system. It is in the install (resc1440) disk kernel as a default. I am runing the same controller here with out any problems. I installed it in the kernel when I went through the driver selection menus so it would be there full time. Good luck with Debian. You will like it once you get everything setup.
Amazing installation. SCSI problems
Heavy Xmas to all of you I'm new in linux but not in dealing with the installation process of an OS (DOS, OS2, WINDOWS 9x,..), but Debian defeats me. First some technical data about my system: - Processor: i486 dx4-100 - Motherboard: VLB-PCI, American Megatrends BIOS - HDD's: IDE 600MB Seagate ST3630A SCSI 4.5GB Seagate ST34520W - Controllers: IDE PCI on board (unknown) Adaptec AHA-2940U/AHA-2940UW PCI - O.S.: Windows 98 The problen is that LILO can't detect the SCSI hard drive. When I reboot the system after installation process the bootting program gets into a neverending loop and fill the screen with the following messages: host 0 abort (pid 0) timed out - resetting bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0 host 0 channel 0 reset (pid 0) timed out - trying harder bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0 ... Amazingly, the installation program detects properly the SCSI HD, but only if I launch it from a DOS session under Windows. Any other way to install debian fails in the same way. In any case, the result is that I've got debian installed in my computer but I can't run it 'cos it doesn't recognize the hard drive where it was installed. As we say in Spain: SOCORRO !!! Sorry for my english, and happy christmas again.
