I have a Canon A40 digital camera. I've mislaid the user;s manual so I downloaded a PDF version from Canon. This can only be read with Acrobat 6.0, which is not available for Linux. Earlier versions, and also xpdf, show COPY on every page. Thank you, Canon. I shall _not_ but another Canon camera. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]|| http://www.acampbell.org.uk using Linux GNU/Debian || for book reviews, electronic Windows-free zone || books and skeptical articles -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Jeez, I think you're overreacting a bit. Reader 6.0 has been out for a while now. Is it any wonder that companies are generating PDFs for it? The people you should vent your spleen to is Adobe. Then, send them a nice letter asking for a Linux version of Reader 7.0. -- - Ron Johnson, Jr. Jefferson, LA USA PGP Key ID 8834C06B I prefer encrypted mail. You get a free electronic replacement, and it doesn't work on a minority OS which CAN view documents written for earlier versions of the same software. So you lambast them on a forum which they probably don't read. How about you raise your concerns with Canon instead of complaining behind their backs? They might do something about it. That might be another solution to the problem.) -- David Dorward http://dorward.me.ukhttp://blog.dorward.me.uk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? (Does Acrobat Reader 6 work in under WINE? That might be another solution to the problem.) I've now found that it does open with gv, surprisingly. I accept I may have posted in a moment of irritation but I have downloaded a number of other manuals for other products at different times and none of them has ever required a particular viewer previously. I don't think that it requires exceptional benevolence on the part of manufacturers to provide PDFs of their manuals on their websites, since this will presumably encourage people to buy their products if they know they can obtain such information in the future. I think the problem is not that Canon made a PDF for Reader 6.0, but that they added some kind of copy protection that is only supported by Reader 6.0. Which, IMO, is quite stupid since there is no need to copy protect those manuals. -- Codito ergo sum Roel Schroeven -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
