Problem: I stopped in the middle of the registration process and now
my domain is taken.

Don't worry. If you were in the registration process and did not complete 
the last step (Step 5), then your domain is probably just .on hold. for 30 
minutes. After 30 minutes the domain name should automatically be 
released.  To secure the domain, you will have to complete the entire 
registration process again at that time.

PROBLEM 3

Problem: I did not get a confirmation email.

There are a number of reasons that this may have occurred.  You can request
a copy of your confirmation email by going to:
http://my.dot.tk/cgi-bin/login01.taloha
Please enter your email address and click 'Resend the new registration email'.

However, if you provided an incorrect email address or did not get the 
confirmation email for some other reason your registration of the 
domain will not be accepted.  The domain is on hold, 
but will be released by our system within 72 hours (3 days).  At that time, 
the domain will be available for re-registration.  If you wish to secure the 
domain, you will be required to complete the registration process again.  
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Dot TK uses an Address Verification System to insure that our 
registrants provide valid information and that the information is correct. 
Due to the complexity of International Address Verification, the system

all the fields. All fields are mandatory, except the fax number.  If you do not 
have a phone line or area code, please be sure you enter a '0' in the area 
code field and '00' in the phone number field. This usually solves the

Problem: I have problems with uploading content to my website.

Dot TK is NOT an Internet Service Provider or hosting facility.
We just forward your Dot TK domain name to another existing
webpage or website, located somewhere on the Internet. Please
consult your existing Internet Service provider or hosting
facility how you can upload HTML, images and more with programs
like FTP, WSFTP or SCP.

PROBLEM 6

Problem: I forgot my password!

Dot TK can send your password to your email address. Just go to
http://my.dot.tk/cgi-bin/login01.taloha
and fill out your email address. Click then on the text
'Email me my password' and within seconds you will receive
an email with your password.

Please note that both email address and password are case
sensitive.

PROBLEM 7

Problem: my domain has been suspended, now what?

For all FREEDOMAIN.TK domain names there is an important
rule: you should have at least 30 hits every 90 days.
If you have less then 30 hits, your domain name will
be suspended for 10 following days. During these days
you are able to buy your domain name. Please visit
My Dot TK, login, and go to 'Pay for domain'.

Please note that this usage rule is ONLY applicable
for FREEDOMAIN.TK domain names and NOT for PAIDDOMAIN.TK,
SPECIALDOMAIN.TK and TRADEMARK.TK domain names.

Duh!?!  Except, that is, for the one from which I'd migrated and deleted
the user; but I hadn't deleted a cronjob run on that user's behalf, which
was generating email, which, of course, couldn't be delivered because the
user's directory no longer existed.  And I hadn't eliminated that user
from fetchmail.conf on the original machine, so other senders were getting
the error message back too.  My apologies for wasting your time with such
a stupid oversight!  It just goes to show that moving a user from one
machine to another is more complicated than it might at first appear.

I've been getting a bunch of these messages on a fairly new testing
installation.  According to the Exim FAQ, this error happens when users
don't have home directories, but I do.  My exim.conf includes localhost in
the local_domains definition.  I'm receiving email (using fetchmail).
And, of course, all these error messages are arriving!

I was just going to try to figure this out without bothering you guys, but
it turns out all my correspondents are getting the error message even
though I'm getting their emails!  So it's a bit urgent.

I'm pretty sure this is the offending machine because it's the only one in
my little network which fetches mail.

Okay guys,

problem solved, with some assistance from a private post. I ended up
ditching the script for a rewrite rule in my exim.conf file. All is
back to normal.

still, it's strange that the script stopped working...oh well.

That's pretty much it. I can send mail when I bypass my output
filter though, so it's not my server (ISP). I can fetch mail without
any probs too.

Same problem. In an earlier post, I listed what I did to narrow it
down. The problem seems to be exim's handling (or lack of) of my
output filter for rewriting the From: header on outbound email. No
matter what I do, I can't get it to work with it. If I comment the
lines in my exim.conf file that refer to the output filter, it
works. The rub is that then my email address is wrong. G.

i use sendmail instead of exim, but i suspect your
warning message says something to the effect that
it was unable to send your message within 'x' hours,
but that it will continue to try to send it.  sendmail
here is configured to send a warning after 8 hrs and
to continue trying for 5 days.  this sometimes happens
when people don't use their real email address, or
their mail server has problems.  i have a message in
my outgoing queue that's been there about 2 1/2 days,
because sendmail got an error (to be exact, "reply:
read error from ..com") while trying to
deliver it.  it'll probably be there until the 5 days
is up, then it'll be deleted, and i'll got another
message saying so.

as a test, you might try sending message to yourself
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and see if you get it back without
any errors.  if you do get a warning message, it's
probably a problem with exim.

Well I've narrowed down the problem. I just don't know why it has
stopped working. When I first set up exim, I did so following along
with an LG article. It had me edit my exim.conf file's remote_smtp
section to include a transport filter that edited the address on
outgoint email. My home system's domain is smaug.home.net, but my
actual email address needs to have home.com appended if I ever want
a reply. The filter was a perl script that made the changes
automagically. It (the script) works fine. I've ran text files
containing the header info through it and it rewrote the From:
address as expected. 

The relevant section of the exim.conf file is:

  # This transport is used for delivering messages over SMTP
  # connections.

  remote_smtp:
driver = smtp
headers_remove = "sender"
transport_filter = "/usr/local/bin/outfilt"
  end

Everything works fine (but no rewrite) if I comment the
headers_remove and transport_filter lines. For completeness, the
outfilt script is:

I'm getting warning messages from my mailer-daemon about how it
can't deliver mail. I've only sent three over the last few days, so
that's all that have been postponed. My mail system was working as
late as a week ago, but now seems to have stopped. I normally use
exim and the exim.conf file is still intact. The only thing that I
have done has been to upgrade my installation (potato) periodically.
Did exim get hosed or something? 

Where might I look for info about what is broken? The warning
messages are not very helpful as they inform me that I need not do
anything and that delivery attempts of the messages will continue.
