Do a dmesg | grep -i serial to see if the serial driver was loaded. Also do grep serial /proc/ioports; if it's using 03f8-03ff, then the serial driver should be available on /dev/ttyS0. Mouse config
Hi I installed Sarge the other day on my laptop to try it out, quite impressive only used 2 cd's and installed so many packages. Anyway my question is how does one configure a usb optical mouse as that was the only thing that did not work, the touchpad worked.

You should ensure that for your configured mouse in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 that you're using /dev/input/mice as the correct Mouse location. Also, assuming you have everything picked up by hotplug, you'll want the hid kernel module running. -- Thomas Adam ___ Does your mail provider give you FREE antivirus protection? Get Yahoo! X11 Mouse Config
Okay, my first dumb question. Has X installed and working fine, updated some packages, one of which was gpm as I recall. Now, mouse not working. Then, ran xf86config and X won't start at all. Sigh. Which program set up X originally? It was something friendlier than xf86config. Yes, I need to take more notes during the installs. There was a setup program (not xf86config) that I had used during the install to set the mouse type etc. It was graphical. Any clues as to what that was appreciated. It will be great when the Debian faq X11 section actually has some text there... :-) Thanks, -- Don Meyer

On the other hand, X could be relying on gpm to produce mouse data in /dev/gpmdata. Look in /etc/X/XF86Config-4 if /dev/gpmdata is mentioned in the mouse section. mouse config for PowerBook Pismo?
Would anyone have suggestions for configuring the mouse for X v.3, Debian Potato release? This is for use with an Apple PowerBook Pismo 2000. When I launch X, I get some sort of desktop environment (WindowMaker?) with the cursor locked dead in the center of the screen. It won't move with either the trackpad or an external USB mouse. One suggestion I got was to change the /etc/X11/XF86Config file's Pointer section's Device call. i.e.: [/etc/X11/XF86Config] Section Pointer Protocol BusMouse Device/dev/input/mice# was /dev/mouse EndSection /dev/input/mice *does* exist; but unfortunately, this hasn't fixed the problem. Thanks Scott
