Welp, http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/06/business/06algae.html

Looks like the wagon is starting the journey.

Go back a few years on this list. Oh, wait you've been posting since
2005... I bow down to your masterful prose.

I'll now recuse myself. I see you are the B357 at advice, from your
message.

There is no point.

It's interesting that in the relatively few wildly off-topic threads
that constitute a large proportion of the mails to this list, the
same names keep popping up.

Oops, just went through the TOME summary, its 11,000 square miles. Or
about:

0.310959514% of the 3,537,438 square miles the US has.

Sorry, for the "Off-Topic" ness of this post. I guess we are being

Well, they are talking about GREEN. NRDC should not complain, it is 100%
renewable in less than 1 year should be continuously available and
renewable. 25% more energy returned than used to produce it.

If not for use in automotive realm, what about electricity generation?
It'd be better than Coal... particulate from Bio-Diesel should be less
than a coal based generator and much more capable turbine fuel.

Bah, it'll never happen... ethanol (which takes 7% more energy to make
than it produces) is being pushed HARD. Heck, even sugar beets are
better than Corn. But those that go against ADM are going to feel it
sooner or later (sooner is more likely)

Yeah, right. Like the NRDC wouldn't squeal like a herd of stuck

there is an algae that supposedly has something like 80% "oil" content
as that is what makes it float. is this the same stuff?

Based on things I have researched and processing systems I have seen and
actually went through the motions of getting the nitty-gritty on.

Algae based Bio-Diesel. 110,000 square miles of "useless desert" flooded
with salt water and seeded with a certain algae... would supply enough
Biofuel for all vehicles (provided all current vehicles were converted
to diesel) in the US with about a 25% energy return on energy used to
process it and transport to filling centers.

There is a lot more to it, about 8,000 pages to read and wrap your head
around. Then you get to the business models based on it. I'd need some
OTHER person able to really grab the business model.
