Assuming the binary is compadible with the version of XF86 you have
installed the easiest way is to do this:

copy the binary to /usr/X1R6/bin

change /etc/X11/Xserver's first line to point to that filename, and it
should work,  or, just see what file Xserver points to and copy the new
binary on top of the old one (backup the old one first!)

Umm, this will certainly work (except note it's X11R6 not X1R6) but
it's a bit out of accord with the Debian Way (TM). Binaries that
aren't part of the distribution should be put in the /usr/local
directory tree somewhere, eg., /usr/local/X11R6/bin. It's probably a
bit nitpicky, but after a while you'll find your system almost
unmanageable if you don't stick to this procedure.
