Does xbl.spamhaus.org need an A (or ) record? Surely you only care
about the subdomains of that?

Indeed, it resulted the same for me. Perhaps they (or their DNS
provider) goofed something. DDG doesn't show anything that it's been
discontinued in the first page of results, so it's probably not that
it's been done away with.

Seems not related to IPv6 or dual stack:

tom@hades:~$ host -t A xbl.spamhaus.org ns3.spamhaus.org
Using domain server:
Name: ns3.spamhaus.org
Address: 192.16.188.181#53
Aliases:

xbl.spamhaus.org has no A record

tom@hades:~$ host -t xbl.spamhaus.org ns3.spamhaus.org
Using domain server:
Name: ns3.spamhaus.org
Address: 192.16.188.181#53
Aliases:

xbl.spamhaus.org has no record

Seems there's no xbl.spamhaus.org anymore.

No, but you're getting v6 responses in those lookups, so *something*
thinks it's supposed to be using v6.

Sorry. Should have mentioned that I'm one of those v4 only folks. My
ISP wants more $$ for v6 IPs. (Doesn't make any sense to me either.)

I've thought v6/4 might be the problem. Is spamhaus v6 only? I don't
see any mention of that on their web site...

I take it you're on ipv6, right; and not perchance dualstack?
