* From: Sjoerd Hardeman sjo...@lorentz.leidenuniv.nl * Date: Tue, 12 Oct 2010 21:24:00 +0200 Better, try luvcview or guvcview, specialised programmes to just grab the output of the camera. They also allow to alter the settings, maybe you can fix things. luvcview -L lists formats MJPEG, RGB3, BGR3, YU12 and YV12. Several of the MJPEG frame sizes give an image for luvcview. Can anyone tell me which video formats Skype accepts? Thanks,... Peter E. -- Telephone 1 360 450 2132. Shop pages http://carnot.yi.org/ accessible as long as the old drives survive. They also allow to alter the settings, maybe you can fix things. Thanks for the tip. The camera is now a Microsoft (R) LifeCam NX-6000 as /dev/video0. From the description in aptitude, luvcview is the most capable of the two programs. The following is from two cases. The first gives a nice video. The second, where I tried to specify smaller and legitimate video dimensions, gives a segmentation fault. I'm imagining that Skype might work with a smaller resolution. Any suggestions to achieve that without a fault. Thanks, ... UVC cameras
Somewhere I've read that a camera must be UVC conformant to qualify to use the Vista label on the package. It wasn't an authoritative source. Recently I put an inexpensive camera on Squeeze and got a local image in Skype. Oddly the remote image was OK without the camera but garbled with the camera connected. Can anyone explain this observation or cite pertinent documentation? Thanks, ... I would also test the webcam with another program like Kopete or Ekiga, to discard any issue with Skype.
