Hamm -- Slink: 1. Compose-key lost 2. X11-display problem
Hallo, Last night I upgraded my mixed hamm/slink/potato system to a slink-based system. Everything is working satisfactorily now except for the two problems mentioned in the subject line. 1. I cannot get the compose key working again in console mode. When this happened in my previous upgrade I solved it by gzipping and copying the file /drivers/char/defkeymap.map from my kernel-source (2.2.9)tree to /etc/kbd/default.map.gz. It did not help this time. I even copied the backup-file I had from my previous /etc/kbd/default.map.gz but that did not help. I hope somebody can help me with this one. I cannot afford to spend another day or two reconfiguring my system. 2. I have gnome installed and use icewm with it. I use startx. Xwindows comes up in 1024x768-mode and CrtlAltKP_+/KP_- does not change anythin in the display. How can I repair that? The display section in my XF86Config contains the following lines: Section Screen Driver accel Device S3 86C764 (generic) Monitor My Monitor Subsection Display Depth 8 Modes 800x600 1024x768 ViewPort0 0 Virtual 1152 800 EndSubsection Subsection Display Depth 16 Modes 640x480 800x600 ViewPort0 0 Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection Subsection Display Depth 24 Modes 640x480 ViewPort0 0 Virtual 640 480 EndSubsection Subsection Display Depth 32 Modes 640x400 ViewPort0 0 Virtual 640 400 EndSubsection Johann -- | Johann Spies Windsorlaan 19 | | [EMAIL PROTECTED]3201 Pietermaritzburg | | Tel/Faks Nr. +27 331-46-1310 Suid-Afrika (South Africa) | -- And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. It may be a bug, but I am not sure. You can fix it by using the http port. That is, change your sources.list to http://ftp.us.debian.org... hope it helps...
-- \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ Jordi Román Mejiase-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Autònoma ObertaServei de InformàticaUniversitat Autónoma de Barcelona /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ ?package(local.sesiones):needs=text section=Maquinas title=sh [EMAIL PROTECTED] command=ssh -C -l aoadmd ponent ?package(local.sesiones):needs=text section=Maquinas title=sh [EMAIL PROTECTED] command=ssh -C -l aoadmd migjorn ?package(local.sesiones):needs=text section=Maquinas title=sh [EMAIL PROTECTED] command=ssh -C -l aoadm marinada ?package(local.sesiones):needs=text section=Maquinas title=sh [EMAIL PROTECTED] command=ssh -C -l aoadm xaloc ?package(local.sesiones):needs=text section=Maquinas title=sh [EMAIL PROTECTED] command=ssh -C -l gtides ponent ?package(local.sesiones):needs=text section=Maquinas title=sh [EMAIL PROTECTED] command=ssh -C -l gtitest ponent ?package(local.sesiones):needs=text section=Maquinas title=sh [EMAIL PROTECTED] command=ssh -C -l gti marinada
HAMM-SLINK Upgrade Howto
For those of you interested I have written a small howto document on upgrading to SLINK from HAMM. I still have some minor changes to make to it but it is still usuable. The only thing I am missing is the exact name of one package...but the system will tell you what that is anyways so it's no big deal. Hope this helps someone. hello, i didn't find any README in the slink directory, so how does the upgrade work (and the maintenance...) do i simply install the packages of the slink directory? In fact i would like to have packages like gnome easily installed and maintained through dselect... and that seems possible only upgrading to slink... second problem: my system seems to have problems with dpkg, i couldn't get it install the gmp package, no way i corresponded with the package mantainer but after some initial guesses, didn't hear anymore from him :( result are some packages that are set as broken further when trying to retrieve non-US packages, despite the fact that the Package file is fetched at the right location, when trying to download the path used by dselect is worng: Checking for Packages file... /pub/mirror/non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US/hamm/binary-i386/Packages.gz but: Connecting to ftp.inka.de... Aplixware and debian hamm/slink
I have been thinking of getting some sort of Office Suite for my own use at home...and have an early version of StarOffice 4 and have had mixed sucess with it (ok little to no success but...I could play with it more too...) Anyway... Has anyone here tried Applixware from RedHat? I understand its probably RPM'd et al...but with alien I could make it a tgz or a deb... I am runnign a hamm/slink system currently. Using 2.1.x kernels with hamm/slink
I have a mixed hamm/slink system which works fine with 2.0.35. I have tried running 2.1.112 and 2.1.114 and can't get pppd to start.
