Do you have a file /etc/X11/xorg.conf? If so, please could you paste the "Monitor" sections that include any reference to "HorizSync" or "VertRefresh". (Better still, pastebin the entire file.) For example, mine has a section that looks like this: Section "Monitor" Identifier "DELL 2007FP" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "DELL 2007FP" HorizSync 30.0 - 83.0 VertRefresh 56.0 - 76.0 EndSection 2. For your monitor, can you please identify the Horizontal Sync frequency range that it can support (this will be in the booklet, or you can try searching for it online). "that" card :-( This is the second time I see a report like yours: sis driver cannot go beyond 800x600 (it defaults to VESA) and it seems to be already reported (at least for Ubuntu): [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-sis/+bug/301958 Take a closer look into that bug and check if you are facing the same problem. Maybe you can also find some workaround in there :-? Besides, there is a Debian bug that could also be of your interest: xserver-xorg-video-sis: X fails to start (SiS 771/671 - No devices detected) http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=546741 Greetings, -- Camaleón -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
