menus for wmaker 0.60

1999-06-22 Thread Mario Jorge Nunes Filipe
Hi

I'm running slink but got wmaker 0.60 and compiled it. After installing
it i tryed to run it but it would crash continually. After looking at
the console i found that it was looking for a menu.hook that was
referenced in WMRootMenu. The only way i could find to solve this
problem was to run wmakerconf (under other wm) and save the WMRootMenu
file without anything in it. The problem with this solution is that now
i don't have root menus in wmaker.

Does anyone know how i can recover my root menu. Thanks

P.S. please cc back to me!

menu.hook is created by the update-menus program from the menu package.
When you installed the wmaker deb, it should have created a file
/etc/menu-methods/wmaker that update-menus uses to create the menu. Run
update-menus as root, and see if it creates the menu.hook properly for
you.

Then, add the single line "menu.hook" _with_ the double quotes to your
GNUstep/Defaults/WMRootMenu file to have it use that generated file.

P.S. Was it really a crash, or did it just abort complaining about the
missing file?

Hello Mario,

I encountered similar problems, only at least my WindowMaker didn't
crash at startup.
I replaced the reference to menu.hook with the complete path of it,
it's somewhere under /etc. Find it with 'locate' :-)

$ locate menu.hook

And edit the file WMRootMenu by hand if you wish. Worked for me! :-)

Of course, wmaker 0.60 is now available in .deb format, so perhaps it's
easier to just download the .debs :-)

--tim :-)

and while we're on the subject of wmaker 0.60 debs...

does anyone else using them have root menu wierdness like this:

Debian
Debian -> Debian
  Apps
  ...(etc)...
  Workspace -> Workspace
   Appearance -> Debian
 Appearance -> Appearance
   Background
   ...(etc)...

That is, some of my menus (the Root menu for one) have only one choice
on them, which leads to the other choices that used to be there.

i noticed this too. After looking into the matter, i found that a simple
change to /etc/menu-methods/wmaker seems to fix the problem. I also
noticed that someone already filed a bug report, hopefully they officially
fix it soon.

My /etc/menu-methods/wmaker is attached.
