I have read somewhere that it should make sure that the NIC isn't powered off on shutdown and /etc/init.d/halt appears to use this value. But it didn't help in my case. The server box - Debian Etch has enabled the Resume on LAN field in the Power Management Setup of the Award BIOS. The server box have also a NIC with wake on LAN cable properly set up. If I understand you correctly, you are trying to power up a system that is not in suspend-to-disk or suspend-to-ram mode, but off. Hallo Ich habe ein Asus A8N-SLI Premium und hab im Bios Wake on PCI eigestellt. Bevor ich Debian testing mit Kernel 2.6.15 herunterfahre führe ich folgende Kommando aus ethtool -s eth0 wol g wenn ich dann mit ethtool eth0 nachschaue sehe ich auch, dass wol auf g steht. Wenn ich dann aber mit wakeonlan 00:15:F2:AC:FB:29 versuche meinen Rechner aufzuwecken dann geht das leider nicht. Mit Knoppix und einem älteren Kernel (2.6.8 ) geht es aber wunderbar. Kann mir da irgendeiner helfen oder hat jemand schon den Kernel 2.6.15 und wol am laufen?? Ich habe schon gegoogelt und hab gelesen, dass man einen anderen Netzwerkkartentreiber oder so nehmen kann. Cheers, MFA Is the win computer atx form? You need the program to send packets. I did it sometime ago, when I had a linux gateway and I used to wake my home debian desktop from work. Try to google for 'ether-wake', guess that's the name. Wenn Wake-on Lan im Bios eingestellt ist blinkt die LED am Switchport in regelmässigen Abständen, da die Karte ja mehr oder weniger aktiv ist ... Any hints!?!? Generell hat das ganze mal vorerst nix mit dem Betriebssystem zu tun (auf dem aufzuweckenden Rechner), es ist bei neueren Boards im Bios die WOL Funktion einzustellen, zusätzlich darf der Rechner natürlich nicht ganz abgeschaltet sein (hinten nicht! über Hauptschalter aus!), sonst bekommt das Board und somit die NIC ja schliesslich keinen Saft. (zu überprüfen: LEDs an der Karte blinken dann regelmässig, natürlich auch am Switchport s.o.). Man müßte sich wohl mal an die Kernel-Treiber Entwickler wenden und dort mal nachfragen wieso der Link abgeschalten wird. WakeOnLAN mit Asus A8V Deluxe?!?
Hi Leute, ich würde meinen Rechner mit Asus A8V Deluxe Board gerne von einem anderen Rechner im gleichen Netz aus einschalten. Soll heissen, der A8V-Rechner ist komplett abgeschaltet (aber natürlich an Spannung angeschlossen, Einschalten über Einschalttaster vorne geht) und wird dann von nem anderen Rechner ferngesteuert eingeschaltet. Geht nur leider nicht :-( Stell ich mir das falsch vor, und das funktioniert nur aus irgendeinem beschi**enen StandBy-Mode heraus, der nur Strom zieht und mit Debian sowieso nicht richtig funktioniert? Oder bin ich nur zu blöd, das einzurichten? Merkwürdig erscheint mir nur, daß mein Switch bei abgeschaltetem Rechner auch kein link anzeigt, der Rechner also eigentlich gar nicht reagieren kann. Das Einschalten funktioniert dann mit: wakeonlan -i deine Subnet-Broadcast MAC-ADRESSE Auch das Paket etherwake scheint diese Funktion zu bieten, habe ich aber nie benutzt. Merkwürdig erscheint mir nur, daß mein Switch bei abgeschaltetem Rechner auch kein link anzeigt, der Rechner also eigentlich gar nicht reagieren kann. Das ist ungewöhnlich. Bist du dir sicher, daß deine Karte WOL-fähig ist? Onboard-Karten sollten es IMHO können, bei externen muß ein WOL-Kabel ans Motherboard angeschlossen werden. Wenn der PC vollständig vom Strom getrennt ist, geht es nicht, d.h. das Mainboard muss im Standbybetrieb sein. Die Aktivierung der WOL-Funktion des LAN-Interfaces wird immer auf den defaultwert disabled zurückgesetzt, so dass man es bei jeden Start explizit wieder aktivieren muss. Unter Windows dagegen war das kein Problem, dort habe ich im Treiber WOL angeschalten (unter Linux geht das mit ethtool auch) und der Link blieb beim Herunterfahren erhalten und WOL funktionierte wunderbar. Bevor ich das WOL im Treiber aktivierte, schaltete sich der Link auch beim Windows runterfahren wieder aus. Warum unter Linux selbst bei einem ifconfig eth0 down der Link am Switch abgeschalten ist weiss ich leider nicht. Aber genau das ist der Grund warum WOL nie funktionieren kann, solange der Link nicht erhalten bleibt.
