For an aspect ratio 16:9, you should probably be running at 1280x720 resolution. Otherwise, everything would appear scaled out of proportion. This is from memory, but what happens if my pixel size 1.7 across by 1 down, shouldn't X take that into account as well ? After downloading the latest a few months ago, My year old ViewSonic wide screen would only be partially occupied, and images were compressed horizontally. The only solution I came up with, was to get rid of the VGA cable that came with it, and put a DVI cable on.
