Bug#120653: RFA: shoop -- The SHell Object Oriented Programming library
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Description: The SHell Object Oriented Programming library Every language under the sun these days is Object Oriented. In an effort to make POSIX shell more buzzword compliant, and to show that it's really not a big deal for a language to lack built-in OO support, we have added object orientation to plain old shell script. Specifically, we have implemented classless OO with introspection, finalization, serialization, and multiple inheritance.
Bug#120652: RFA: libedit -- BSD editline and history libraries
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist This library is NetBSD's implementation of a readline-like library, with slightly different syntax and functionality, but for a similar purpose. The license is the BSD license, with the advertising clause. Maintaining the package is as easy as rolling a new tarball from CVS every once in a while, and porting the Debian-specific patches to the new snapshot. It changes quite rarely, and there isn't much work with it.
Bug#120654: RFA: netsed -- The network packet altering stream editor
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist NetSED is small and handful utility designed to alter the contents of packets forwarded through your network in real time. It is really useful for network hackers in following applications: - black-box protocol auditing - whenever there are two or more propertiary boxes communicating over undocumented protocol (by enforcing changes in ongoing transmissions, you will be able to test if tested application is secure), - fuzz-alike experiments, integrity tests - whenever you want to test stability of the application and see how it ensures data integrity, - other common applications - fooling other people, content filtering, etc etc - choose whatever you want to. It perfectly fits ngrep, netcat and tcpdump tools suite If no-one is willing to take it within a limited amount of time, I will request its removal from the archive (I doubt anyone uses this but me).

Bug#120691: RFP: crystal -- Free and portable 3d game development kit.
Crystal is a nice idea, but is it in a state where it's appropriate to package it? I tried it out .. um .. I think last summer, or maybe this fall was the most recent time, and it was very slow and unstable. It seems also to be under constant development, so stuff breaks a lot and (presumably) the API will be yanked out from under any programs that depend on it. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, it's quite an ambitious endeavor. :) -- your friendly WNPP cop, Daniel -- / Daniel Burrows [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---\ | Genius may have its limitations, | | but stupidity is not thus handicapped.| \- Debian GNU/Linux http://www.debian.org -- Because. /
Bug#120309: ITP: sbuild -- Tool for building Debian binary packages from Debian sources
On Wed, 21 Nov 2001 12:45:14 -0800 Rick Younie [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I don't know if I've replied to this message, but trying again. The sbuild package chroot creation sucks and I don't know when I'll get to improving it -- poor net connection currently and it's not very interesting. :-) You set up the chroots once and then just keep them current from then on. pbuilder takes somewhat different approach in that it keeps tar.gz of chroot images, and extracting it whenever a new build starts. This is advantageous in that it is possible to have the cleanest possible environment (in a way), and also allows for concurrent build process (for those people who are inpatient). It might make sense to add sbuild to your package, maybe as an alternate build method. I haven't checked out out pbuilder yet so I don't know if this make sense. I'll grab it right now. pbuilder-buildpackage may be able to use sbuild instead of its own build engine. There's currently a little fork with the sbuild in most common use and CVS. If you want to combine the two packages, I could co-maintain until this settles down; or not? I would rather not maintain sbuild. I would rather keep sbuild out of pbuilder, as a separate package, because the upstream is quite different. My impression is that sbuild is out in the wild in many different forms and forks... regards, junichi -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.netfort.gr.jp/~dancer

Bug#120691: RFP: crystal -- Free and portable 3d game development kit.
On Thu, Nov 22, 2001 at 03:54:15PM -0800, Viral Shah [EMAIL PROTECTED] was heard to say: Debian packages have been made by Christian Bayle, and available at http://crystalspace.free.fr/ Just a note: those packages are really badly done; if someone does base a Debian package on them, they'll want to do some serious cleanup (the dependencies are screwed up, they dump user binaries in /usr/lib, crystalspace is missing a shlibs file, menufiles are messed up...) -- but on the other hand, the author seems to have done the hard work of getting Crystal to install nicely into a packagable format. Bug#105421: ITP: opengate -- H.323 gatekeeper
On Thu, Nov 22, 2001 at 01:47:50AM +0100, Santiago Garcia Mantinan wrote: I am happy to package this RFP. Great, are you doing it already? Yes pretty much underway. There are of course three opensource gatekeepers I have been able to find.. http://www.opengatekeeper.org - Looks good works with simph323, ohphone and Netmeeting http://www.openh323.org/bin/opengk_1.0.2.tar.gz - The official gk for openh323 but seems a little basic in function http://www.willamowius.de/openh323gk.html - Very comprenhsive documentation, but I can't get it to work with Netmeeting. I guess I'll go with opengatekeeper but maybe also package openh323gk. I'm gonna upload new pwlib and openh323 libs in the near future, they have changed quite a lot, completely reworked, fixed bugs, changed places for the development files and all that to meet an agreement with other distros. That would be good. I have also been taking a look at bayonne which doesn't seem to like the current openh323 libs location of /usr/include/oh323, but rather is looking for /usr/include/openh323. Hopefully your changes are compatible. I have left a copy which is not final but should be close to it, in fact, I don't plan to do any changes on them besides cosmetic ones. For everybody that wants to take a look and them and report back or are working on any openh323 based packaging, they cat get the libs via ftp or http at ftp.manty.net/download/h323test Sure I'll take a look, but I have just noticed the new versions of pstngw and openam are already available in unstable. Please let me know if you find something wrong with the libs. Will do. Mark pgpZd4JgarsLa.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#120705: ITP: prelink -- ELF prelinking utility to speedup dynamic linking
FYI, I have a package for this, but it's NOT ready for public consumption yet (the prelink utility, not the package). I was intending on ITP'ing it since it goes hand-in-hand with the binutils support that I've enabled recently, but if you really want to package it, be my guest. I have to ask, though, how you're going to handle the invocation of prelink, especially since it's worthless when new versions of libraries and/or binaries are installed. To really get this working ideally, it should be called during packaging and possibly even during boot or via a weekly cron job, but I hadn't worked out the wrinkles totally yet. Let me know...perhaps we can co-maintain this since I really don't need another package to manage, but since it's vital for whomever does to know what's going on with binutils at any given time...
