Does it not work on {Free,Net,Open}BSD? What unportable kernel features
does it rely on?

To the best of my knowledge, GTK+ and GtkHTML work just fine on *BSD.

Bug#155995: ITP: dbmix -- A DJ mixer for digital audio streams.

2002-08-08 Thread Daniel Kobras
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-08-09
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: dbmix
  Version : 0.9.8
  Upstream Author : Robert Michael S Dean <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://dbmix.sf.net
* License : GPL
Description : A DJ mixer for digital audio streams.

The DBMix software collection mimicks a mixing desk as used by disk jockeys.
Using only a single sound card, it allows to mix audio streams from a variety
of sources, cross-fade between them, adjust the pitches, or punch in short
effects. Optionally, a second sound card (or output channel) can be used to
 cue in songs.

I've split up dbmix into four binary packages: dbmix (core components),
xmms-dbmix (xmms output plugin and supplementary xmms tools),
libdbaudiolib0, and libdbaudiolib0-dev (communication lib). The library
name is a bit, uhmm..., redundant, but, well, that's how they are
called...

Regards,

Daniel.

Dart was created as the software testing system for the Insight
Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK) funded by the National
Library of Medicine (NLM) as part of the Visible Human Project. Dart
is modelled after the nightly dashboard produced for the
Visualization Toolkit (VTK). Dart was developed in late 2000 and
generalized for deployment on other software projects in mid 2001.

Description : GNOME OpenGL program for switching virtual desktops
in a 3-dimensional manner

>From the webpage:

3D-Desktop is a GNOME OpenGL program for switching virtual desktops in a
seamless 3-dimensional manner. The current desktop is mapped into a
fullscreen 3D environment where you may choose other screens. Several
different visualization modes are available.

The transition from working desktop to fullscreen 3D environment is
seamless. In other words when the pager activates you see your current
desktop appear to zoom out to a point in space where you can see your
other virtual desktops allowing you to select another. The best way to
understand is to try it out and get the full effect!

Requirements:
Fast computer (sorry no 486s...)
OpenGL/Mesa (Hardware acceleration is strongly recommended)
GLX
XF86VidMode extensions

I thought we'd finally killed that silly acronym (which more often should

Bug#146320: ITP: maria

2002-08-08 Thread Marko Mäkelä

Junichi Uekawa wrote:

I've been hacking a few programs to work with vcg, which
does a fine work similar to graphviz.

I really need the node shape "record" of GraphViz for presenting Petri
net states in a tabular format, but the example at
http://rw4.cs.uni-sb.de/~sander/html/gsvcg6.html> looks promising:
apparently vcg even allows multiple colours per node label (or multiple
labels per node).

It is trivial to modify the graph exporter of maria to produce graphs in
the vcg input language; everything is in one class, Dotty.C. The
biggest problem might be making vcg interactive. At the minimum, it
should be able to communicate via stdin/stdout and draw graphs
incrementally. Translating mouse and keyboard events to Maria commands
on stdout would be a big plus.

I'd really appreciate your help here, as vcg seems to have more layout
options than GraphViz, and it might be easier to get vcg running
properly (communicating via pipes) on Windows than GraphViz lefty. At
first sight, xvcg seems to lack a scripting language. I cannot estimate
how much time it would take to adapt xvcg to act as a maria-vis
replacement, and I'm afraid I won't have the time in the near future.
But perhaps vcg could be made a noninteractive visualiser of maria?

I've been hacking a few programs to work with vcg, which
does a fine work similar to graphviz.
The patch still hasn't gotten into apt, so if people think
building portions which require graphviz in main is wrong,
remove apt from main first :P

I don't like the description.
1) too long
2) No need to repeat the name of the program
3) 'Linux Platform' - surely 'Debian Platform' is better, then you won't
have to change it for the other kernels :)
Seriously though, people will see this description in places such as
aptitude and debian related web pages - the 'Linux Platform' phrase is
really not needed.
4) Netscape Composer and Microsoft FrontPage
What are these? To find out what your program is, I have to look at what
other programs are?
Generic terms would be better, e.g. WYSIWYG
You could then expand on this in the longer description. If you insist
on mentioning other software (quanta+, vim,...), then please highlight
the differences between those and the GINF system.

My proposal:
Package name: GINF
Description: A GTK+ WYSIWYG website creation program

Long Description:
A 'What you see is what you get' (WYSIWYG) html editor designed for
users who don't know any html code. The Gtk+ interface allows users to
create pages by typing text, clicking buttons and exploring menus.

Bug#155925: RFA: shaper -- Traffic Shaper for Linux

2002-08-08 Thread Colin Watson
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'd like to pass shaper on to a new maintainer. I'm not as interested in
it now as I once was, and it needs some TLC applied to it: shapecfg and
cbqinit should arguably be separate patches, and somebody needs to think
about merging the cosmetic patches upstream.

I also get the very occasional (once every couple of months) traffic
shaping support request by e-mail, which I don't often have time to
respond to. It'd be nice if somebody did.

  * #150656: shapecfg and cbqinit should be in separated packages.
Package: shaper; Severity: wishlist; Reported by: "Marcus Felipe Pereira
(Akim)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; 47 days old.

The package description is:

The traffic shaper for Linux configures and adjusts traffic shaper
bandwidth limiters. Traffic shaping means setting parameters or limits to
which network traffic should conform - that is, setting limitations on
bandwidth consumption. See README.shaper for more details.
 .
An init script which sets up traffic shaping using class-based queueing is
also provided. This can be used to build smart bandwidth shapers which know
about TCP/IP. See README.cbq for more details.
 .
The kernel support needed to use either of these facilities is described in
 README.Debian.

I'll continue to maintain shaper until somebody offers to take over.
Please mail me before adopting this package.

no sorry. I was able to boot it but couldn't manage to set a custom
config file (for disk sizes). you'll have to setup autoconf for the
endianess issues too. And most important, upstream is very unresponsive
and wasn't willing to respond to some of my questions.

I suggest you to look at a project with more responsive upstream, like
Michael Dales' SWARM. if you choose to go with swarm, please retitle this
bug instead of creating a new one.

Bug#155878: ITP: libtest-mockobject-perl - Perl extension for emulating troublesome interfaces

2002-08-08 Thread Jay Bonci
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Version: N/A

Perl extension for emulating troublesome interfaces
Test::MockObject allows you to control interfaces for writing
tests in perl. It can emulate interfaces that you normally
would use (such as a database or other external items).
You don't have to recreate the functionality, but simply mimic
 the input and output.

Written by chromatic. Waiting on NMU.
Test::MockObject available from CPAN
Package complete at http://jay.bonci.com

Bug#155876: ITP: libmail-sender-perl - Simple perl mail sending with attachments

2002-08-08 Thread Jay Bonci
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A
Severity: Wishlist

I intend to package libmail-sender-perl, along with being generally useful,
it is a dependancy of the Everything engine
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=155872). You can find it
as Perl's Mail::Sender module, available on CPAN.

I have permission from the author, it is available under the Artistic
Licence, and the completed package waits at http://jay.bonci.com/debian for
NMU.
