Bug#169089: ITP: GoFish -- A simple Gopher server
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist I intend to package the GoFish gopher server, written by Sean MacLennan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, and released under the GNU GPL. Upstream sources are available from http://sf.net/projects/gofish/. Current version is 0.22. Description: GoFish is a simple gopher / web server. It is designed with security and low resource usage in mind. GoFish uses a single process that handles all the connections. This provides low resource usage, good latency (no context switches), and good scalability. GoFish runs in a chroot(2) environment. This means that GoFish can only serve files from the root directory or below. While GoFish must run at root privilege to be able to use port 70, it drops to a normal user while accessing files. pgpKp76yID2a1.pgp Description: PGP signature

I was thinking of finishing it by january (after my life goes back to normal), but if you'd like you can take over the package right now. The client will know how to extract various information such as load average and bandwith usage, and will wait for the server to request these values. The server runs periodically from cron and gathers data from all the clients it's aware of, and uses the data to make graphs and simple HTML pages, arranged in a tree-like hierarchy - suitable for viewing with a graphical web browser. The server can optionally notify Nagios if any of the values moves outside of a specified range. The client includes a broad range of modules for extracting values found on most Debian systems - creating custom ones is also very easy. You can also create special checks which relays information from other devices which can't run LRRD, using SNMP or similar technology. LRRD is written in Perl, and makes heavy use Tobi Oetiker's excellent RRDTool (http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/rrdtool//index.html). The package description is: This is a tool to attach and detach slave network interfaces to a bonding device. A bonding device will act like a normal Ethernet network device to the kernel, but will send out the packets via the slave devices using a simple round-robin scheduler. This allows for simple load-balancing, identical to "channel bonding" or "trunking" techniques used in switches. . The kernel must have support for bonding devices for ifenslave to be useful. Is there any reason you want to adopt ifenslave instead of another package? This is a package with a problem: it needs kernel header files but it's rather problematic in Debian to depend on kernel-header packages and get it to build flawlessly by all the build-daemons. Recently I just removed the dependencies on kernel headers and included the various needed definitions in the source of infenslave itself (however that was only possible because the definitions where the same for all architectures). So now it builds without problems, so I should've closed the RFA. But if you have a strong interest in this particular package you can adopt it, however if not I'd suggest you help out elsewhere. -- Met vriendelijke groet / with kind regards, Guus Sliepen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> pgpppxamG6UJ4.pgp Description: PGP signature
