Of course, if you can be shocked by nudity, don't use it!

This ITP would also close the following RFP:
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-wnpp/2003/12/msg00118.html

Please mind that the license has changed to make both the coders and
graphic designer happy. They have all settled for the Artistic License.

I have no moral/ethical problem with this, and would normally encourage
controversial material (such as religious and political texts) to enter
Debian provided they're free.

However, pornography causes significant legal problems in the US, and
probably moreso in many other countries. If I give a Debian CD
containing this software to a minor, am I distributing pornography? (It
sure looks like it, from the pictures.) This is considered a felony in
most parts of the US. Given the contributions made by people under 18
and/or 21 to Debian, this seems to cause a major technical and legal
problem, regardless of any ethical one.

I would ask, for this reason, that the software not be included in
Debian main.

Isn't this backwards?

This would encourage you to increase the load on your system, until you

Hi,

I would really want to see this package in Debian, as a friend of mine
needs at work (and I could also use it as an argument to migrate some
computers from SuSe to Debian).

If you need some help, a sponsor to upload the package or anything else,
don't hesitate to ask me.

Bye,

new keys and keyring.

Would you to package this within the scope of of the Debian GNOME Team?
This gives you extra support with your package and the input of a wide
varaiety of experienced gnome packagers. It would mean working within
the alioth svn repository. Full details can be found in the
gnome-pkg-tools package. If you'd like to talk about it, a vibrant

2004-11-30 Thread Mr. Charles Kallo
Dear Friend,

I MAKE THIS APPEAL WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT ANY FACTS OR OPINION EXPRESSED
BY ME ARE GIVEN IN CONFIDENCE AND SOLELY FOR YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION AND USE.

I am Mr. Charles Kallo, the manager of bill and exchange at the foreign
remittance department of my Bank here in Dakar, Senegal. In my department I
discovered an abandoned savings belonging to one of our foreign customers from
october 1997 to march 2001 totalling US$4.283M, (Four Million, two hundred and
eighty three thousand US Dollars). On maturity, I sent a routine notification
to his forwarded address but got no reply. After months I sent a reminder and
finally I discovered from his contract employers that he died in an automobile
accident. After his demise, nobody showed up as his relation to claim the money
he deposited in our bank.

The banking laws and guidelines here stipulate that if such money remains
unclaimed after three years, the money will be transfered into the bank
treasury as unclaimed fund. The money had stayed for more than three years and I
have prepared documentation to prove that this money has been transfered to our
bank treasury. It is you and I only that know this money is not transfered into
the bank treasury after all.
It is therefore upon this discovery that I am now searching for a reliable
foreigner to go into partnership with in retrieving the money in question from
the bank which had been left unclaimed by the deceased relations. I will
present your name as the next of kin or nearest relation to the deceased
depositor for our bank to release this money to you for subsequent disbursement
between you and I since nobody is coming for it and I don't want this money to
go into the bank treasury as unclaimed bill.
The request for a foreigner as next of kin in this transaction is occasioned by
the fact that the deceased depositor was a foreigner and only a foreigner can
make claims or stand as a beneficiary for the purpose of transferring the money
out of Senegal. I have secured some important documents that would be required
by the bank to release this money to you. The bank authority will want from you
some true documents of the deceased depositor that you are the true beneficiary
of this money. To prove this, I have arranged with the deceased private Lawyer
who has all the original documents relating to this transaction which will be
amended to reflect your name as the true beneficiary of this money. Be rest
assured that there is no risk involved in this transaction as everything has
been arranged for smooth transfer. I am in the bank to work out everything in
your favour. This is a life time opportunity one could not miss.

In appreciation of your assistance, I am offering you 30% of the total sum. 5%
for contingencies (cost of transfer/other charges) likely to be incurred during
the course of transaction, 55% is for me, while the remaining 10% will be
donated to charity organizations jointly nominated by you and I as a
contribution to humanitarian service.
Upon receipt of your reply, I will send to you by fax or email the text of the
application which you will forward to our bank asking for this money to be paid
to you as the next of kin to the deceased depositor. I want to assure you once
again that other neccessary precautions had been secured for smooth transaction
and trasfer based on the confidence I have as a manager and an insider in this
bank.

PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER MY URGENT
REQUEST. WITH YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION AND TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR EASY
COMMUNICATION.

Sincerely,
Mr. Charles Kallo

At this point the fertility prediction is based on the calendar

We can't remove everything from Debian that is illegal some obscure
place for some obscure reason. We can't even *know* what these things
are, and in this instance, you haven't cited a specific location where
the Bible might be banned.

In a more general sense, whether you are religious or not, there is no
denying that the people inspired (for good or ill) by the Bible have
left a remarkable impact on human history, influencing everything from
the ancient Roman empire to the recent American election and slavery
abolition movements in centuries past. There is great historical and
literary value there. Even if one doesn't believe the accounts there, it
provides context for a great many events in our history on this planet.
There is a, IMO legitimate, argument that banning this work would indeed
be banning something of value to scholars, researchers, and everyday
citizens.

Such could hardly be said for a stripping CPU monitor, which seems to
have no useful purpose at all. Appeals solely to the prurient interest in
the words of some American laws. In a few rural Southern counties, I
believe it is illegal even for adults to possess such material.

FWIW, I think other Free historical documents of great interest would be
fine in Debian. Other religious texts, documents relating to the
establishment of new forms of government, works of fiction that brought
about change in society, etc.

But OTOH, we have a release to prepare. Lots not go packaging up
Project Gutenberg until Sarge is out the door, OK? :-)

Description : Normalisation of EDSS disease score of patients with
Multiple Sclerosis

Suppose one is interested in determining whether the genotype at some
locus of interest affects the rate of progression of disease of people
with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). One method would be to calculate the mean
EDSS score in patients with each of the genotypes and test whether they
are significantly different. However, this approach is inefficient if
patients have their EDSS assessed at different durations of disease, as
patients who have had MS longer typically have higher EDSS scores
regardless of their genotype. By adjusting for duration, a more powerful
test can be developed.

MSSStest is a program for implementing the method described in the
article The Multiple Sclerosis Severity Score. R. Roxburgh S. Seaman et
al. (2004), accepted for publication by Neurology. It calculates MSSS
scores and uses these scores to test for differences between disease
progression rates in different groups defined by genotype at some locus.
A brief description of the method is given below.

The application of this predictor is technically not constrained to
Multiple Sclerosis which justifies the presentation as a Debian package.

I have created a package and hope for a sponsor - which is of course a
bit tricky for non-DFSG-compliant software.

Kind regards

Steffen

changes, make sure that any upstream changes to the .cgi files are
manually applied to the .cgi.in files.

Description: Modern logging daemon with regexp support
Metalog is a modern replacement for syslogd and klogd. The logged
messages can be dispatched according to their facility, urgency,
program name and/or Perl-compatible regular expressions. Log files
can be automatically rotated when they exceed a certain size or
age. External shell scripts (e.g., mail) can be launched when
specific patterns are found. Metalog is easier to configure than
syslogd and syslog-ng, accepts unlimited number of rules and has
(switchable) memory bufferization for maximal performance.

Justification: email bounces, plenty of NMUs and some RC bugs, no activity

Bug#283695: ITP: mssstest -- Normalisation of EDSS disease score of patients with Multiple Sclerosis

2004-11-30 Thread sean finney
hi steffen,

On Tue, Nov 30, 2004 at 07:31:33PM +0100, Steffen Moeller wrote:

snip

the description is a bit long. i think the second paragraph would
be appropriate.

The application of this predictor is technically not constrained to
Multiple Sclerosis which justifies the presentation as a Debian package.

even if it were, i don't see why it wouldn't justify a debian package.
especially given some of the other stuff being proposed recently (i.e.:
the ITP on hot-babe)

I have created a package and hope for a sponsor - which is of course a
 bit tricky for non-DFSG-compliant software.

have you tried to politely persuade upstream to change the terms of
their license? it may be that they put that limitation on their
software not realizing its implications, or that perhaps there exists
another dfsg compliant license that would meet their needs as well
as debian's.

Bug#283751: ITP: fakepop -- fake pop3 server to warn users that only pop3-ssl is available

2004-11-30 Thread Pedro Zorzenon Neto
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: fakepop
  Version : 7
Upstream Author : Pedro Zorzenon Neto [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://vztech.com.br/software/fakepop/
* License : GPL
Description : fake pop3 server to warn users that only pop3-ssl is
available

fakepop is a fake pop3 daemon. It returns always the same messages to
all users, it does not care about usernames and passwords. All user/pass
combinations are accepted.

Why use fakepop: the main purpose of fakepop is to advice users that
your server only accepts pop3-ssl and they have wrongly configured pop3
without ssl. You can customize messages in /etc/fakepop/ directory to
teach your users how they should configure their mail clients to use
pop3-ssl instead of pop3
