Description : [Biology] Graphical design of primers for PCR

PerlPrimer is a free, open-source GUI application written in Perl that
designs primers for standard PCR, bisulphite PCR, real-time PCR (QPCR)
and sequencing. It aims to automate and simplify the process of primer
 design.

Wouldn't the package be better named pcrprimer or something like this?
The fact that it is written in perl seems not to be relevant to
the user. The name perlprimer makes me rather think of a primer
(tutorial) for perl.

Bug#282283: RFH: dselect -- a user tool to manage Debian packages

2005-01-07 Thread Thaddeus H. Black
To anyone interested enough to read this bug log (maybe
nobody? we shall see):

I have not forgotten about this bug, nor have I lost
interest. On the other hand, neither have I yet found
time to address it properly. As noted in the previous
post, it is not my intent to block this bug by squatting
on it. I have not yet earned ownership of this bug. If
you have the knowledge, the interest and the time, you
would enjoy my blessing and support (for what little
these might be worth) if you stepped in front of me and
started real dselect work. I merely do not want dselect
to die of neglect.

As for me, at the moment debram/debtags is commanding my
available Debian time today. (There are regrettably
only 24 hours in a day...)

7-Zip is kinda popular packing software. It is free software (in the sens=

friendly soul has ported libraries and commands of that software to
Unix.

Bug#289168: ITP: xvidcap - Capture X-windows display to frames or video

2005-01-07 Thread Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 7-Jan-2005

Package name: xvidcap
Version : 1.1.3
Upstream Author : original code by Gmelch thron AT gmx.de, extended by
  Karl H. Beckers karl.h.beckers AT gmx.net
URL : http://xvidcap.sourceforge.net/
License : GPL
Description : (see below)

Package: xvidcap
Architecture: any
Depends: imagemgick, ${shlibs:Depends}
Description: Capture X-windows display to frames or video
Xvidcap is a screen capture application that can capture
videos from an XFree86 desktop for illustration or documentation
purposes. It is intended to be a standards-based alternative to
 propietary tools.
 .
Xvidcap is still under development, and is not yet fully polished.
Audio suport, for example, is still under experimental development.
Nevertheless it is useful for teaching and training through
video screen captures. You can use the animate program (ImageMagick)
to view the recorded frames as an animation.
 .
Xvidcap uses an on-line encoding facility using FFMPEG's libavcodec -
 libavformat.
 .
 Homepage: http://xvidcap.sourceforge.net/

I'm still testing the packages I've built, which seem to work fine with
imagemagick (to produce animations) but I have not yet tested them with
FFMPEG.

Javier

Do you still intend to create this package? If so, please keep the
bugtracking system informed of progress and delays. ITPs which are
just waiting for a sponsor should be tagged 'patch'; I recommend the
bts script from the devscripts package.

If not, please retitle to RFP (Request For Package), or close the bug,
 as is appropriate.

Note that I'm not personally interested in this package; I just want
to keep the WNPP area well-pruned. Feel free to respond to me

Bug#181273: RFA: vmnet -- A simple virtual networking program

2005-01-07 Thread Sven Mueller

May I suggest that vmnet is removed?
The RFA has been open for almost two years now, with noone stepping
forward to take it over. It therefore seems that the package isn't used
much anymore (popcon says 0.10% installations).

Sven

Bug#160706: RFP: buildd -- Debian package build daemon

2005-01-07 Thread Sven Mueller

Hi.

I would certainly be interested in helping to package (and document)
buildd. However I don't think I would be able to stem this by myself. So
what I would actually like to do is:

1) Find a few others who are interested in this
2) Set up a mailinglist to coordinate the effort
3) Set up a repository for this effort, including buildd and any
other software which is needed by buildd and not packaged yet
4) Start completing the documentation
5) package buildd

So who would be interested in helping to package buildd?

cu,
sven

PerlPrimer is a free, open-source GUI application written in Perl that
designs primers for standard PCR, bisulphite PCR, real-time PCR (QPCR)
and sequencing. It aims to automate and simplify the process of primer
 design.

Wouldn't the package be better named pcrprimer or something like this?
The fact that it is written in perl seems not to be relevant to
the user. The name perlprimer makes me rather think of a primer
 (tutorial) for perl.

Hmm, that was my first thought, too. OTOH, the upstream package is
named perlprimer...

Description : Ephemeris of Astronomical/Astrological data

The Swiss Ephemeris is a function package for the computation of planetary
positions. It includes the planets, the moon, the lunar nodes, the lunar
apogees, the main asteroids, Chiron, Pholus, the fixed stars and several
hypothetical bodies. Hundreds of other minor planets are included as
well.

The precision of the Swiss Ephemeris is very high. It is at least
as accurate as the Astromical Almanac, the standard planetary and lunar
tables astronomers refer to.

The data for 1800-2200 AD is also included.

Bug#285274: ITP: libvisual

2005-01-07 Thread Frederik Dannemare
Hi John,

sorry for not having responded any sooner.

 Hi there,

I just noticed your message from the 15th. I have three XMMS plugins
that need to transition over to libvisual (goom, jess, synaesthesia)
I'd like to move the other plugins I'm maintaining over to libvisual
eventually since they have inactive upstream authors.

If you want to go ahead and package up libvisual, you're welcome to
it. All I really need is a decent -dev package to build with.

OK, I can confirm my interest in this package. I have pretty much
already made the package (split into a lib- and a dev-package).

However, I will need a sponsored upload, since I'm currently in the NM
queue. I was thinking of asking my AM to work with me on libvisual (and
LiVES which makes use of libvisual).

OTOH, the libvisual developers who piped in on the Goom-Devel mailing
list told me they'd like to do some cleanup before it's packaged.

I'll keep this in mind.

There is a 0.2.0 release planned for sometime in January, and I was
waiting on that release before creating packages.

So, feel free to package libvisual. If you lose interest please let
 me know.

If you can wait a little while for the package to be uploaded I would
very much like to take it.

Best regards,

I want to orphan the snmptrapfmt package, because I do not personally
use this=20
package anymore.

There is already an alioth project for snmptrapfmt. This project was my
last attempt
to get work done for snmptrapfmt. But I could not find the time. If
somebody wants
to take snmptrapfmt the alioth snmptrapfmt project could be used. If not
I will
close this project on alioth.

Bug#285274: ITP: libvisual

OK, I can confirm my interest in this package. I have pretty much
already made the package (split into a lib- and a dev-package).

However, I will need a sponsored upload, since I'm currently in the NM
queue. I was thinking of asking my AM to work with me on libvisual (and
LiVES which makes use of libvisual).

Are you planning on packaging the XMMS libvisual plugin or any of the
other material outside libvisual itself?

OTOH, the libvisual developers who piped in on the Goom-Devel mailing
list told me they'd like to do some cleanup before it's packaged.

 I'll keep this in mind.

There is a 0.2.0 release planned for sometime in January, and I was
waiting on that release before creating packages.

So, feel free to package libvisual. If you lose interest please let
  me know.

If you can wait a little while for the package to be uploaded I would
very much like to take it.

Any chance you could send me a copy to look over?

Bug#289248: RFA: ntlmaps -- NTLM Authorization Proxy Server

2005-01-07 Thread Drew Parsons
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the ntlmaps package.

The package is working fine, I'm happy to keep maintaining it as
upstream
releases come in (a new person has recently taken over upstream
development).

The reason I'm putting it up for adoption is that I'm no longer stuck
behind
a Microsoft Poxy Server, so I no longer need to use ntlmaps myself. I
won't
be able to test new releases satisfactorily.

The package description is:
'NTLM Authorization Proxy Server' (APS) is a proxy software that
allows you to authenticate via an MS Proxy Server (e.g. ISA server)
using the proprietary NTLM protocol. Since version 0.9.5 APS has an
ability to behave as a standalone proxy server and authenticate http
clients at web servers using NTLM method. It can change arbitrary
values in your client's request header so that those requests will
look like they were created by MS IE. It is written in Python v1.5.2
 language.
 .
 Main features:
* supports NTLM authentication via parent proxy server
  (Error 407 Proxy Authentication Required)
* supports NTLM authentication at web servers
  (Error 401 Access Denied/Unauthorized)
* supports translation of NTLM scheme to standard Basic
  authentication scheme
* supports the HTTPS 'CONNECT' method for transparent tunnelling
  through parent proxy server
* has ability to change arbitrary values in client's request
headers;
* supports unlimited number of client connections
* supports connections from external hosts
* supports HTTP 1.1 persistent connections
* stores user's credentials in config file or requests
password from a console during the start time

The question being is this acceptable to go into non-free?

 exactly.

OK.

I asked to clarify the paragraph, the current text now has append and
 the terms of the LGPL.

The Proprietary Source Software, which is delivered in object code
format only, such as the .o files, shall in no event be
disassembled, reverse engineered, decompiled or otherwise be opened
and the results realised insofar shall not be copied or distributed
without the prior written approval of AVM except to the extent as may
be expressly authorized under mandatory law and the terms of the LGPL.

With this addition, the software can be distributed in non-free.
