This is perfectly fine, but the start was a little rough.
I'd like to propose a more gentle scripts:

*) after 6 months send a ping

... Hey, you submitted RFP ... and it's still open
Please consider if you could possibly package this
... you can find sponsors ... etc.
this is automatic message that monitors the status

*) after 9 months

... Hm, it seems that long time has passed
since your RFP and the message has been gone
unnoticed. Previously you were queried if
you could offer help to package this since
other Debian developers seem to be busy.
... you can find sponsors .. etc.
this is automatic message that monitors the status
  of the requests ...

*) After 12 months

In order to find prospective packages that
have sufficient interest, we found that your
RFP has been open 12 months. If you still
would like to keep it open, here are the
  instructions...

If you do nothing, this RFP will be (archived)
  ...

Similarly for ITPs: Perhaps in more faster
timetable (3 + 3 months after which it should
be converted to RFP for 3 months.)

| They are getting it. They are not thrown to the garbage bin ignored,
| believe me. No one is minimizing your work in the sense you are trying
| to make it, Jari.

My concern was more against the sudden closure and the fear
that others that may propose new packages are discouraged
to do so, if the system clean those.

Would there be others choice than to close the RFPs? Could they just be
left to sink further down in the list (I assume list of RFPs can be listed
in FIFO order from some web page).

Perhaps after 2 years a package can be considered obsolete enough to be
closed permanently.

| Fortunately, some people, because of the 1-year-inactivity closing, have
| reacted positively and started to work again in their bugs. Not always
| is so bad.

I agree. The notices are fine to warn about upcoming events. Perhaps
this can be a more subtle/phased and not a single message which
announces a close.

| I this will be the procedure, then it must be written into policy manual
| as well. Until then this would be more like an suggestion.
|
| Just like already said, there is nothing written for WNPP on the policy.
|
| I'm completely open to any kind of suggestions, really. And I don't see
| myself as the fucking bastard who is ignoring other people's work.

I feel that the process should be as open as possible. If this is the
current and future procedure, the policy manual should be updated by adding
a note beside the RFP to explain what will happen to it during it's
lifetime. Similarly to others like ITPs if similar policies are applied to
them.

It is always good to make internal tacit knowledge explicit if at all
possible, otherwise it will confuse people that do not have the ability to
participate full time in Debian project (mailing lists etc.).

Description : PAM module to blacklist hosts/users with many login failures

This PAM module automatically adds hosts and/or users with many
authentication failures in pre-defined time intervals to a temporary
blacklist. While blacklisted, any authentication attempt will
silently
fail, pretending the given authentication credentions are wrong.
After
the pre-defined blacklist interval, the host/user will be unbanned
again.

Thus, this module provides effective protection against the
password
guessing attacks agaings ssh servers seen lastly in the

FATSort is a utility that sorts FAT16 and FAT32 partitions. It even
can handle long file name entries. It reads the boot sector and sorts
  the directory structure recursively.
This is for example useful for sorting the files on your MP3 player when
it doesn't implement a sorting function itself.

You may have gotten the distribution wrong. You'll get warnings above

Bug#232082: gopchop in debian?

2005-10-10 Thread Paul Wise
Hi all,

I notice that you have a debian package of gopchop available in the
sourceforge gopchop project. I think it would be nice to get this into
official debian - gopchop seems to be an innovative and interesting
program. By getting it into debian, you get free auto-building on
multiple architectures, more users and more bug reports and fixes.

Would you like to have someone to maintain the debian version? If so, I
could do this, or point you at some advice about finding sponsors.

Some comments on the 1.1.7-1 .deb:

  * Delete /usr/share/doc/gopchop/NEWS.gz
  * Package in the menu file should be gopchop instead of
inkscape :)
  * The menu file should be placed in /usr/share/menu (newer
versions of dh_installmenu do this automatically) according to
the debian menu policy.
  * The icon that the menu file points at needs to be in XPM format
according to the debian menu policy.
  * You should generate debian/changelog using the dch tool from the
devscripts package - it updates the date and versions
automatically.
  * Might be good to distribute docs/libvo.txt and
docs/libmpeg2.txt.
  * The package description should include this line at the end:

Homepage: http://gopchop.sourceforge.net

Some comments on the debian dir from CVS:

  * Remove some of the commented out lines in debian/rules
  * Remove cruft from debian/watch
  * libmpeg2-4-dev is a duplicated build-dependency
  * Kees Cook seems to be the maintainer from the changelog. I
suggest adding John R. Hogerhuis as the co-maintainer.
  * Standards-Version needs updating to 3.6.2

Some comments on the source tarball and its relation to the debian
package:

  * Might be good to split out the compiling/requirements from
README into README.install, which could then be dropped from the
debian package (and other binary packages), since they are
irrelevant to people with a binary package installed.
  * ChangeLog should be renamed to NEWS. ChangeLog should probably
just be the CVS log for the package.
  * Whoever becomes the official debian maintainer should probably
have CVS write access to the debian dir in CVS.

I've attached a patch for the debian packaging to fix some of the above
issues.

That one looks interesting, I did not find it when I was googling for

we have any issues with the servers holding our CVS in the future.

Bug#253735:

2005-10-10 Thread Sam Clegg
Any progress on getting this package into debian? I use it on several
machines and it would be really useful.

Also the unofficial package that I was using seems to have disappeared
from http://debian.usefulinc.com/

If I can help then please let me know.

According to their website the license is called X.Net. I wonder if

Description : International Components for Unicode for Java

ICU4J provides Unicode and internalization support for Java.
  .
ICU4J implements Unicode collation and normalization, character set
detection, script transliteration, text boundary analysis (word and
line breaks), and international calendars (Chinese, Hebrew, Islamic),
  among other things.
  .
ICU4J team works together with Sun, and in some cases, part of ICU4J
gets included in a later release of Java. However, the most current
and complete version is found in ICU4J.

Thanks for filing this. Give me a link to the packages and I will take a

Bug#232082: gopchop in debian?

Thanks Paul,

These all look like good changes to me.

I did the packaging some time back intending to become a DD. I made an
effort to get my key signed and to find a sponsor but unfortunately I
didn't have any luck.

Certainly I'd like to see Gopchop become part of Debian. I did create an
ITP which has since been deleted from the bug tracker because I failed
to get the ball rolling as a DD.

rdepends is flowscan. Upstream development seems to be stalled,
but the package is fine at the moment, but I will NOT have the
time to fix bugs in the future, so I'm orphaning it now.

Description: Perl module for creating HTML tables
HTML::Table is used to generate HTML tables for
CGI scripts. By using the methods provided fairly
complex tables can be created, manipulated, then printed
from Perl scripts. The module also greatly simplifies
creating tables within tables from Perl. It is possible
to create an entire table using the methods provided and
 never use an HTML tag.
 .
HTML::Table also allows for creating dynamically sized
tables via its addRow and addCol methods. These methods
automatically resize the table if passed more cell values
than will fit in the current table grid.
 .
Methods are provided for nearly all valid table, row, and
cell tags specified for HTML 3.0.

Description : Single libary to read/write tar, cpio, pax, zip, etc. files

The libarchive library provides a flexible interface for reading and
writing streaming archive files such as tar and cpio. The library is
inherently stream-oriented; readers serially iterate through the archive,
writers serially add things to the archive. In particular, note that
there is no built-in support for random access nor for in-place
 modification.
 .
libarchive can read at least five tar formats, four cpio formats,
ISO9660 CD/DVD images (including RockRidge extensions), and ZIP
 files.
 .
libarchive can write two tar formats (ustar and pax), one cpio format
(odc/POSIX), and two types of shar files (with and without uuencoding).

Bug#333226: ITP: dibbler -- portable, open DHCPv6 implementation (server, relay and client)

2005-10-10 Thread Tomasz Mrugalski

* Package name: dibbler
  Version : 0.4.1
Upstream Author : Tomasz Mrugalski [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://klub.com.pl/dhcpv6/
* License : GPL
Description : portable, open DHCPv6 implementation (server, relay and
client)

There will be 4 packages: -client, -server, -relay and -doc.

Package: dibbler-server
This is a DHCPv6 server. It supports both stateful (i.e. IPv6 address
granting) as well as stateless (i.e. options granting) autoconfiguration
modes of DHCPv6 protocol. Relays are also supported. Install Dibbler
server if you'd like to have IPv6 hosts automatically configured in
 your network.

Package: dibbler-client
This is a DHCPv6 client. It supports both statefull (i.e. IPv6 address
granting) as well as stateless (i.e. option granting) autoconfiguration
modes of the DHCPv6 protocol. Besides basic capabilities, it supports
various DHCPv6 extensions, e.g. option renewal. Install Dibber client if
you want to obtain IPv6 addresses and options from DHCPv6 server.

Package: dibbler-relay
This is a DHCPv6 relay. Relays are used as proxies between server and
clients. Main advantage is the ability to support multiple remote links
using only one server. Install Dibbler relay if you want to serve
multiple not physically connected links with one DHCPv6 server.

Package: dibbler-doc
User's Guide as well as Developer's Guide is included in this package.
That documentation covers all aspects of Dibbler DHCPv6 implementation:
  - server, client and relay usage and configuration
  - various tips and frequently asked questions
  - internal structure/code description and hints for developers

Bug#333230: ITP: bsdtar -- tar(1) from FreeBSD, with read support for tar/zip/ISO9660/cpio using libarchive

2005-10-10 Thread John Goerzen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: John Goerzen [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: bsdtar
  Version : 1.02.034
  Upstream Author : [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://people.freebsd.org/~kientzle/libarchive/
* License : BSD
Description : tar(1) from FreeBSD, with read support for
tar/zip/ISO9660/cpio using libarchive

The bsdtar program has a number of advantages over previous tar
 implementations:
 .
 * Library. Since the core functionality is in a library, it can be
used by other tools, such as pkg_add.
 .
 * Automatic format detection. Libarchive automatically detects the
compression (none/gzip/bzip2) and format (old tar, ustar, gnutar,
pax, cpio, iso9660, zip) when reading archives. It does this for
   any data source.
 .
 * Pax Interchange Format Support. This is a POSIX/SUSv3 extension to
the old ustar tar format that adds arbitrary extended attributes
to each entry. Does everything that GNU tar format does, only
   better.
 .
 * Handles file flags, ACLs, arbitrary pathnames, etc. Pax interchange
format supports key/value attributes using an easily-extensible
technique. Arbitrary pathnames, group names, user names, file sizes
are part of the POSIX standard; libarchive extends this with
support for file flags, ACLs, and arbitrary device numbers.
 .
 * GNU tar support. Libarchive reads most GNU tar archives. If there
is demand, this can be improved further.
 .
 * BSD license.

we have any issues with the servers holding our CVS in the future.

Personally I'm interesting in packaging the CVSup, because I'd like to mirror

I've uploaded the ezm3 package to the Incoming queue. The packages are also

Bug#206691: Let's Upload!!

2005-10-10 Thread Marco Presi

Hi Vittorio,

I looked at your packages (both: python-gd and matplotlib), and
I think they are quite good!

I did only few changes to their control files (mainly,
cosmetics):

-) added myself and Alexandre as uploaders
-) added few modifications to pkgs descriptions

Then I've updated the changelogs to close ITP and ITA bugs, and
increased version numbering (don't know if it is really
necessary, but it may help people to notice that the pkgs are
entering in Debian).

Last quick question: you build only for py 2.3 and 2.4 is there
a reason for this? In case, any objections if I extend to py 2.2 too?

I am testing the pksg, and in the meantime, I am uploading them
to http://people.debian.org/~zufus: take a look, and then tell
me if you see problems, then in case, tomorrow I can do the
upload.

Ciao Ciao

Marco

P.S: I would be also interested, in the future, to convert
debian/rules to cdbs.. what do you think about it?
